im hoping we get a bunch of dlc characters as well
NRS has to be aware of how badly Capcom alienated casual and hardcore fans with SF3, and I hope they don't make the same mistake.
Aside from the massive over-saturation of Street Fighter at the time, both casuals and hardcore fans alike didn't recognize the game.
If NRS opts to add more new characters to the roster than old favorites, then I hope the old favorites will be brought back via DLC so that....in the end...everyone is happy, and everything is in balance.
Because MKX is pretty fucking out of balance at the moment!

That's exactly what it means. Any of the characters in first 4 games are
more worthy than anyone introduced after that. Simply because they are, for lack of a better term, "OG" characters.
I apologize for not putting this in the right thread, I just did it quickly after I saw the poll results.

I see now, Jarek is much more worthy than Kenshi. How could have I been so blind?
I'm all for new characters or any characters introduced post MK4. Only because I'm so over playing with characters from MK1-3... We need a break from them. Seriously.
I know they are people's favorites... But people need to give new characters a chance. This is why MK recycles classic characters all the time. Its getting boring.

Good point, there are a few exceptions, but very few.

While I was freaking out last night about this I feel better. The lead designer stated there will be "lots more" when talking about returnees. So I wouldn't worry. They know it wouldn't be wise to have way too many new characters. At the end of the day it's best to showcase the new characters now because hype is at an all time high and they get the spotlight. It probably wouldn't be the same if the likes of Tanya or Fujin were revealed along with them because most of us would be going on about those two. So introducing a number of the new characters now to drum up interest in them and then revealing the returnees later is probably what they're doing. I can't see this game NOT having established characters outside of Scorp & Subby.
I'm sure it'll be a decent balance similar to the likes of Deadly Alliance & Deception.
@Professerahnka What you say makes sense. Good reasoning. I really hope you're right.

Actually, we don't even have to go outside the franchise to look at something else that alienated a lot of folks.
Deception did something -very- similar to an almost uncanny degree. It axed virtually the entire roster from Deadly Alliance (only six were carried over) in favor of a bunch of copycats, both old and new characters alike. The game paid dreadfully for it because the dev team at the time didn't realize that they couldn't exactly cut and paste the fighting stances willy nilly like they did.
Since NRS has a lot more technical prowess and freedom under Warner than the Midway team did ten years ago, taking a "Tekken 3" approach to the franchise may not be such a catastrophe like it was the last time they tried a similar stunt.

That all depends on perspective. I think there are a lot of exceptions.
I piss on the classic characters if need be. Seriously after more or less 9 fucking games, how many times do you want to see cyberninjas, spandex assassins, edenian night-butterflies in the same unchanged frame?
This is why video game stories in these particular cases will never truly be art. Not that they should be. But seriously, if MK were a series of books, then you bet your sweet virgin asses that most of the old guard would be eliminated without remorse.
You see, a true story requires something called suspense of disbelief, and I find it egregious that the same people constantly show up virtually unchanged, episodically going through whatever the current excuse is for this installment.
When DOA actually completes a characters arc, in the case of Gen Fu, and when a game that is more or less aboob physics simulator does more than getting a charactyer from A to B, there really is a problem.
Some of us have not only grown tired of the old guard, but downright despise (as much as you can despise a fictional character, but you geet my meaning) the characters.

Confirmation: this game is going to introduce the most new characters out of all the games.

The characters from MK1-MK3 I can do without.
It's MK4-MKD that I desire, specifically Tanya, Bo' Rai Cho, and Havik. They are awesome.and have not been seen in ten years. They need a well due return.

Most MK games (main ones, excluding UMK3/Trilogy/Gold) had new characters filling about a third to a half of the roster. I'd guess we're getting 12-16 new if the roster stays at 24 characters.

It's really irritating when people make topics like this. What will they get? You could have managed to fit it in the title lol. Mini rant over. Edit: Wow my bad lol I was totally looking at a different topic while bashing yours. I have message board dyslexia apparently lol.

But it is NOT a series off books, it is a fighting game. But I get it. You guys want change? Well we're damn sure getting it. Let's just hope that they don't screw it up this time..

Hey guys, sorry is this has already been said didn't skim through the whole thing. Ed has now confirmed this game will probably have the most new characters of any MK game. So right off the bat we can pretty much assume it's a minimum of 10.
