I personally really like it, but it seems some people are just having trouble adjusting to something so new in the MK world. I understand that given the huge amount of new things in this game. I admit that I found the new characters very odd at first but I've quickly grown to liking them. We're gonna be in for even more new characters and plenty of new stages. It seems we might not even go too deeply into anything related to MK4 and beyond. This game is gonna feel very different, but I don't mind at all. I think people that do have just been so biased by the 90s games.

Those first 3 games have just taken control over people's minds. Since 2005 after MKDA and MKD, we've been revisiting the early games over and over. They come out with Shaolin Monks that brings us back to MK2. Then they come out with Armageddon that brings back all the old characters and the old stages. Then we have MK9 that just redoes the first 3 games over again. So with all that piled on top of years and years of seeing these original characters, seeing TV shows and movies and comics and merchandise of the first 3 games, when something finally NEW comes into MK, it seems out of place and different and that's why it's been so odd to some people. But in reality, I think it's perfectly fitting for MK. Now we're comparing the newer characters to the older ones and people are really confused as to why anyone would choose the new over the old.

So do you like this new direction or do you wish it would have been based more on MK4-MKD with more older characters and stages rather than newer ones?

I'm actually quite impressed with what has been shown so far. I've been on more of the cynical side towards the series after games like MK 2011. However, I do like the darker, more serious tone this game is giving off. Having this generational gap is something they should have just done after MK: Armageddon instead of having MK 2011's alternate timeline quasi-reboot. I would like MKX's story mode to give proper closure to what happened in MK 2011, especially with the fallen heroes as well as covering Shinnok and Quan Chi. Certainly, Shinnok and Quan Chi had begun their attack during those 25 years, so I can imagine we'll be seeing them in the story mode.

I'm very impressed with what I've seen and heard so far. Everything they announce only heightens my anticipation and excitement for what's, or who's, next.

It was a lot to take in a first. But now I've warmed up to the new stuff. And Cassie Cage is amazing, already planning on maining her.

So far so good.

If this is the average quality, then I might as well say that MK needs to ditch the baggage of the previous games and forget about it permanently. If the rest is as good as this.

Instead of Mortal Kombat 2011, the lame and pointless reboot of 2011, this is sort of the post Armageddon game, I've been waiting for since 2002. The new characters look interesting, even more so to the characters we got post MK4, even my top 5 character , Frost. Mortal Kombat Deception , Armageddon, AND Mortal Kombat (2011) are all nostalgia games. After 10 years, the nostalgia is OVER, now we get mostly all new stuff.

Maybe after 19 YEARS, we can get a NEW PIT STAGE,(PIT IV) instead of Mortal Kombat Deception's reuse of MK1 pit, also Mortal Kombat (2011)'s PIT, that incorrectly used MK2's Pit instead of MK1 pit.

Thank god, that this will be the most original Mortal Kombat since, Deadly Alliance, that had the most originality since MK1. Deception (worst 3-D MK game and lacked of focus ) and Armageddon (lacked focus, but still good)

Also, I have a feeling by the end of MKX's story mode, it will null out and make pointless the events that happened in MK9, just like MK9 made pointless MK1 to MKA , and add to convoluted the MK mythology thanks to MK(2011) storyline errors.

I like pretty much everything we've seen so far.

At most I have minor nitpicks. Like not being a fan of Cassie's stance and animations, hope they are still tweaking them. And Sub-Zero's glowing mask, kinda ruins the whole design for me. I wish Sub-Zero's mask, when he changes styles, would look more frozen over, or just have some ice on it. I simply don't like how it looks like the textures are missing.

I though I was the only one disliking the 'missing textures' look. It looks bad and DISTRACTING! IMO Unbreakable style Sub-Zero should wear his Deception shredder helmet.

Agreed! I want the Sub-Zero with Shredder helmet! This was when he was really badass.

I like all the newness, but I haven't seen a new character yet that I really like. Hopefully they have a new ninja or some kind of classic styled character. These new characters(except for Cassie)seem very organic.

Excited. It's been a long time since we saw anything completely new to mk. Whilst I love all the nostalgia of the old games and characters I'm really happy to see a lot of new things in mortal kombat.

Now that would be great. With the game still a year away, I hope they'll make some changes to the characters. And adding the Deception helmet to highlight the style change, would be fantastic.

The fact that this game has already made me forgot the last game's awesomeness shows how much I am in love with this game. I think the best thing so far I've seen is how the elderly gets treated at a market in Outworld. I still can't get over how funny that is.

I love it!

Personally I'd be happy if everything (characters, backgrounds, soundtrack etc) was new.

Think of it from the point of view of the designers, it must nice for them to be handed a brief that asks them to create something entirely new instead of being asked to remake what they have previously done.

As long they don't make it completely new, but keep some of the old stuff. The old stuff, such as characters, stages, moves, gameplay elements etc, can and should be renewed though to fit along with the new things and not just be recycled/reskinned.

Much like the X-Ray move, character variations could quickly grow into a staple of Mortal Kombat gameplay.

I'm very pleased so far with how it is turning out. Perhaps the greatest thing about it is the immense amount of creative discussion that comes with it. I can already see us discussing what kinds of variations we'd like to see for MK11.

The new characters are presenting MK in a brand new light. Still, it's not so new that it doesn't feel like MK. Really, it feels like a Mortal Kombat game from the future.

So far, I'm loving the game's direction. My only desire at this point are the returning characters. Still hoping for my three, Tanya, Bo' Rai Cho, and Havik.

As a big fan of the franchise and mostly MK2-MKDA, i love the idea that after MK9 which sounded like a test ground for bringing a new generation of fans they're yet getting bold or ballsy and bringing on the new stuff again.

It all looks crazy awesome at the moment so i can't complain. The variations addition sounds like a cool add for the value of it and the new chars and arena designs are awesome. The step up to as far as going 25 years after the events of MK9 can be gold for the storyline. Even though i'll be bold with this statement but: With Cassie Cage as a new char, i think that "MAYBE" Sonya and Johnny might be left out of this one. Sorry fans.;)

I love that i haven't witnessed characters being covered in blood so fast like in the previous game so far. And overall, what they're doing with this new game only deserves kudos at the moment.

Among the new chars, D'Vorah sounds awesome at this point. I'm sure she's got something up her sleeves that i'll wildly enjoy.

The combat, the visuals, the characters, how fluid everything is. The variation system is really cool. Makes you have to master that character 3x over. X rays and fatalities are back and gory as ever. I'm liking everything I've seen so far.

I'm all for it. While I'd like some closure to the MK4 part of the story at large; I'm fine with them steering away from the 3D era of the games, so long as we get a reasonable explanation as to why things like Onaga rising aren't happening.

I'm in love with the new cast members. I've had none of the reservations I did when I looked upon characters like Kira, Kobra and Hsu Hao for the first time; that's a good sign.

Ewww no! If they wanted something this fresh than make a different game! New characters, levels, I get. Having nothing from past games would be a HUGE mistake. It would ruin the series.
