Because if I wanted to see a bunch of regular people fight, I think I'd play Street Fighter. I like MK more for its gods, sorcerers, demons, monsters and robots. Edit: I don't HATE the human characters, but I don't like that we might be getting so many of them. And I see their appeal, but they've never been very compelling for me. That said, I don't mind some of them. Kung Lao at least has an awesome weapon he's based around. Johnny is funny. Kano is half-machine at this point and has a fun personality. Kenshi and Kabal are two of my favorite characters, but Kenshi is pure style and Kabal doesn't look very human. Stryker has a funny police brutality gimmick in MK9, but he was trash in MK3. I've always found Sonya, Liu and Jax to be the most boring, though. Nothing against their fans; different strokes.

I am 50/50 I like them equally.

Raiden (protector of earthrealm) is the main character of the storyline, and the storyline follows the earthrealm heroes fighting forces of evil from other realms for a reason. If you didn't want to play a bunch of humans, then MK isn't the series for you, because earthrealm and its heroes is a focal point in MK since the very first game, i mean out of 7 playable characters in MK1, 5 were human.

The only person I remember hating humans was a certain individual who shall not be named that got banned. Started with a D.

I've seen a lot of hate in this forum. But people hating on human characters specifically? I don't know where you are seeing this.

I think your conclusion is also a little unfair. Tons of people can like a series and not care for the main protagonist, the villains tend to be more interesting Imo. There is no obligation to like a character cuz they came first or was the good guy. As for Mortal Kombat, does anyone even remember the first game? It's usually 2 and 3 people go nuts over.

In other series the human characters do tend to be disinteresting, but in mk most of them have super natural elements or cybernetic enhancements so they are hardly human in a traditional sense anyway.

Wow, what is it with these calling out threads trying to antagonize others' opinion so much. That sounds like a bunch of strawman bs, Would I want more non-human characters in the roster? yes, given the ever expanding MK universe being comprised of different realms and races, but to hate human characters? I mean, come on.

Besides, my point isn't even that, people can dislike other characters all they want, my point is that assuming a non-human character will automatically be more interesting than a human one is very ignorant, especially seeing how there are a lot of non-human characters in the series that have done nothing, and haven't been developed at all either, and serve as nothing but lackies of the villain in turn.

I'm one of those fans that likes the idea of regular dudes kicking some other-worldy ass. It's one of the reasons why Liu Kang is of of my absolute favs.

I mean, the idea that some terrifying, super-human beasts invade our world intending to take our souls become a trained monk's bitch is rather awesome to me.

I understand regular fighters can be dull to many, but some of us quite like "vanilla" to "rainbow choc-chip bonanza super fun time."

Jax is a SF agent while Jacqui is a kickboxer, they really wouldn't play similarly but people don't want father/daughter being playable in the same game and that's very hypocritical when Sindel/Mileena/Kitana/Kahn, and Noob/Sub have been in several games together.

Not sure this is true. Maybe a small percentage of fans might not like the human characters, but human characters are extremely popular. I feel like you're just trying to start something that isn't a thing.


Plus Reptile and Baraka are awesome characters. Sheeva maybe not so much.


You might be confusing "hating on humans" by the majority agreement among us that do not want the entire Cage family in the main roster. If that happened, it would take away from Cassie's character.

I don't mind them but I do gravitate towards more to the less "normal" characters. People like Kano and Stryker will probably never interest me as characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Ermac, Baraka, Noob, Tsung, Kahn, Goro etc.. There are some exceptions though like Kabal, I like him a lot.

There is a serious difference in human characters.

Kano is also a human, so is Kabal, but they look interesting and have special features.

Sonya, Stryker, Jax (MK2) and Johnny Cage are the boring humans that many people dislike.

I mean I play games to forget about humans, I rather see them in low numbers and espeically not with soap-opera's attached such as the family cage.

Ok not everyone hates the, human characters. If fact some of them I really like. I mean the three main humans Liu Kang, Sonya, Blade and Johnny Cage are cool. Kung lao, night wolf. I love them two. And I love then just as much as the, gods sorcerers ninjas and demons
