Really? Didn't the Sub-Zeroes have a mother and sister though? To the main topic, kind of disappointed about the news of Rain, but it isn't a huge deal. If anything, I really just want to see new gameplay.

Honestly I think you're holding onto the old continuity a little too much, we don't even know if Frost exists in this timeline, yeah that's a shitty thing to do, to just write out existing characters, but that doesn't mean they wont. They turned Mileena into a newborn, so I don't put anything past them. Especially with the way this game is looking it's almost seems they WANT certain characters to be forgotten/not exist.

The Shirai Ryu and Lin Kuei are totally different, especially in Scorpions case that's true... but Sub-Zero and Smoke seemed to escape relatively easily, something about "We will be in danger ONCE our absence is discovered" so who knows maybe they have left plenty of times before and just came back before roll call. :P

I've learned that with MK continuity means nothing in the slightest so I don't always expect it too keep up completely with the previous games. That said, I don't want Sub-Zero or Smoke to have a son or some shit, just to make that clear.

My policy is to be optimistic and hope they stop doing shitty retcons like Mileena's origin, not treat it as an inevitability that this game will be as bad as 9 was.
Also, if they wanted us to forget Frost exists, they wouldn't have put her in two different MK9 easter eggs.

You and me both, I'm hoping this time around they focus on the story more seriously and not as loosely as before. I know it's weird in a fighting game, but I honestly prefer the story over game play as weird as that might be to some people.

And true, but I also don't think NRS pays as much attention to detail as we do, but it would be cool to at least hear something about her in the game. If a character wont be in it I'm hoping they just shed some light on what said character is doing or what happened to them, just to clear the smoke.

In this franchise, it's not that weird.

The only reason Mythologies, Deadly Alliance, or Deception have any fans is people who follow the series for the story.

Then again, think about this. Rain in MK9, what could he be, 30-something? Maybe he was already a father to his kids back then.
