In the new EGM, in the cover story on SC4, they have a little blurb about upcoming fighting games and they state that they hear Scorps and Co. will face off with another well known crew as well in the new MK. Could this be the long rumored MK. vs. SF?glasses

I doubt it's street Fighter, however, I wouldn't rule out Killer Instinct, as they are both owned by Midway. War Gods characters may not be out of the question, either, though they may not be as well known. I don't know how true this rumor is though, as my local shops haven't had EGM on their shelves in over a decade.

Oh, and yeah, I'd love a street Fighter 4, too, if they go the same route as SF III 3rd strike.

Killer Instinct is not owned by Midway. Rare owns the series.

Ah, my bad. I know Midway had SOMETHING to do with the series. I wasn't exactly a KI player. Still, this doesn't rule out War Gods, who have a similar theme, and had fatalities. Only time will tell, I guess.

We can only hope that Midway and Visual Concepts will come together to make the best fighter ever...Mortal Kombat vs. Clay Fighter.

Yeah, from what I understand Midway provided the arcade hardware/distribution and that sort of thing. Rare was the developer and Nintendo was the publisher. However, on Rare's page (scribes section) they've always been really cryptic about ANYTHING related to KI. It's...well, it's possible MK and KI could hook up in some kind of fashion.

It's not out of the question but I wouldn't get any hopes up.

The only problem with two different fighters coming together is that they will have to choose one of the two style of fighting. Like if they did make an MK vs. KI, it would have to use the KI fighting system. Same thing with SF.

This just reaferms that the thread poster should be banned for several months, or at least be given 4 or 5 skull points. He sickens me deeply.

all i'm saying is that if we haven't seen one yet, don't even count on mortal kombat being a mk vs ??? series. don't see it happening in a long shot. so i'm agreeing with this dude grin

Yeah, page 67 of the August EGM (The Soul Calibur issue). Geez, just because one guy can't find the article doesn't mean this thread is BS and the poster's full of it. In the lower right hand column under the heading "In other hard hitting news..." it says:

"Mortal Kombat's brutal crew is also prepping a return to the ring, and we hear Scorpion and co. may be squaring off against another extremely well-known cast." The phrase "well-known" pretty much eliminates that possibility of War Gods for pretty obvious reasons.

That said, I think that EGM is rehashing an old rumor that just won't die about a Street Fighter crossover. It wouldn't shock me if they were using the Official XBox Magazine's interview with Ed Boon in their September 06 issue (#61, the one with Blaze on the cover). On page 67, ironically enough, at the end of the MK:A preview, they have a heading entitled "MK VS SF: Hyper Fatality" Here's the article:

"Now that Kombat is wrapping up its story arc, will fans finally get to see their dream project--A 2D Franchise brawl between Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter? 'I have had conversations with people about it and we've actually made phone calls about it,' reveals Boon, only to quickly add: 'It's not in the near future and I don't think there are any plans at the moment. I'd love to see it. It might be something that a smaller, elite group of people would be super-excited about, but the mass market, I think they'd say, 'Was Mortal Kombat 2D at one point?' So maybe it's more of a novelty to them.' We humbly suggest this 'novelty' appear on Xbox Live Arcade.'"

So yeah, I really don't think that EGM has any inside info on this one. When it comes to MK, EGM is ALWAYS the last source to know anything. They've been last in line on MK news pretty much since MK4 or MK5. So to think that they'd have information that say Game Informer, OXM, IGN or any internet site for that matter, wouldn't have makes no sense.

I could possibly see some type of unlockable game within a real MK sequel, with the next Street Fighter game getting the same type of unlockable game, but I'd bet all the money in the world that this type of crossover doesn't make it to store shelves as a stand alone game.

Again my sincerest and deepest oppologies.

Its cool, I know how this place is about people just interjecting crap to get us fans hopes up, so I didn't take it too seriously and by the time I saw the comments others had already set the record straight on the matter. Now the question remains, is EGM to be trusted, and if yes what game characters, if it is a game, are they taking about. Personally, I am hoping its Spawn, he and his crew would fit in better with MK than he did in Soul Caliber 2.

Well at least you are telling us real news! Now we know at least what kind of MK we are looking at in the future!!
My say:

Death to Budokai! Death to all Anime! Sweet, bloody, ultimate death! Kombat will own all Anime!

or...

Kombat killing Tekken? Infamous!

I prefer MK 8 to be just MK.

But a MK vs KI - 2d game would rule (as a side project).

This doesn't sound exciting in the least bit for me, at least not when we're talking about MK8.

MK8 is (or at least SHOULD be) about reinventing the series, starting something new within the MK world just like MK:DA did. MK vs. SF sounds to me like something pointless that would just appeal to some very few obsessed players. It should only exist as maybe a $10 downloadable on the PS Store or XBOX Live or something, NOT a big project that deserves all of Midway's focus.

I have been DYING for another Killer Instinct game and Rare hasn't put out a game since Perfect Dark Zero; they have been awfully quiet since then and if a Mortal Kombat vs Killer Instinct game is the only way i get to see Jago and Sabrewulf again in all their 3D glory, then so be it.
