To me, that reason (easier to dodge), just means it requires more skill and better timing to play the game. For example: knowing when to use which attack and when to block or dodge, etc.

Yes, defence is a little easier, but that's more to do with the fact that players have a magic block button where you can stop magic projectiles and impaling weapons without taking any damage.

Now, I've already made some suggestions in other thread about the blocking system, but personally, 3D does truely add a new dimension to the fighting engine (pardon the pun, but it's true).

Anyway, one thing I have been thinking about recently is having narrower arenas, such as walkways and bridges. It would restrict the 3D movement in some levels without removing it from the game.

I actually hope they keep the hybrid, because it makes it different from other fighters. I do like 2-d better than 3-d, but if it doesn't mater to me as long as the next game has even better gameplay.

i dont know what you guys see in mk 3d fighters but i dont like them that much. i still want to see it go back to 2d. lol.... i just cant help it!!! Has anyone here ever played marvel vs capcom 2. the game is considered one of the best fighting games in history. but it is broke as hell, with glitches and infinities. But guess what it was fast, fun, and most important 2d. see you can get away with that stuff in 2d but 3d has to be balanced and perfect. im trying to tell you guys!!!

I've played a fair few fighting games in my years, but the only one I find worth buying are the MK series. The others that managed to hold my interest longer than 5 minutes are Tekken 3 and Soul Calibur 4. The ones that bored me to death - because all you needs to do to win was spam - Street Fighter 1 / 2, Mortal Kombat 1 - 3 (the computer beats me all the time by spamming throws, and Noobs specials in Trilogy were all you ever needed to flawless victory anyone).

Even though the 2D MK's were just spam-fests I still found MK Trilogy quite amusing for a while, but all in all, 2D fighting games are just boring and can be won (in some game ONLY won) by spamming.

You do realize that in Soul calibur you can spam your way to victory with almost any fast character. Secondly, I don't think it really matters if it is 2-d or 3-d it's just depends on how they make the game.

Since this was a reply to my post which stated 2D games such as SF and MK were boring in comparison to 3D-MK, SC4 and Tekken 3, then are you saying 2D-MK and SF weren't made well enough??

I agree it does depend on how good the developers are, but there is just so much more you can do with 3D. It doesn't just add a new dimenion to move onto, but it also adds a whole new dimension to the whole game.

To answer your question no. I was trying to say that if spaming in 2D games bothers you what makes you think ther isn't any in 3D games? In the SC series you can spam your way to victory. My point is that it is possible to make a 2D fighter without spaming. Plus nobody plays as good as the computer.

I don't think that the MK team has ever had a problem with the 3D movement aspects a 3D fighting game though. Their problem has always been the execution of the battle system.

Yeah, I've never really had a problem walking either. I guess that makes me talented. tongue

But seriously, I think the real appeal of the 2D era was the realism of the digitized sprites and the speed and intensity of the gameplay and sound effects. It just all seemed to tie together perfectly. Nowadays that formula has become weak and diluted.

MK is hardly a game I take seriously anymore. They've just lost their edge. Back in the day, MK was cutting edge. They were ahead of their time. Nowadays they're trailing behind, barely getting by, riding on the coattails of their former glory.

i always thought the 3d movement was slow but thats just me. but speaking of movement dogding really only works well with 2d because you have to time it perfectly, it takes skill. have you guys seen Iyo, the street fighter iv Dhalism tournament player. he uses dhalism side dogde move all the time to dogde fireballs but if you do it to quick you will still get hit, so you have to time that move just right!!! thats why street fighter have always been considered better to most fighting game fans, because it takes a little more skill.

MKA was a great game i don't know why people hate it it is on my top 3
no mk sould stay 3D but if it were to go back be like SFIV also have a good vs mode like SFIV instead of 1 vd 2 and have 1 vs cpu that was a problem i had with MKA

MKT
MKII
MKA
MK
MK4
MKDA OR MKD
MK VS DC

keep it 3d, 2d is outdated, i have to say, even street fighter patially turns, it will be a horrible mistake to regress. 3d fighters are now the way, look at Tekken(which i think mk is more resemblent of in oppose of sf)!

3d is only good when done right. mk 3d is not done right buddy. if it was i would not be complaining. tekken and virtua fighter is good so you cant compare it to mk 3d games. if they are going to make 3d games fine....but at least make them good man and up to standards. and then mk fans compare the game to tekken but then they say they dont want mk to be like other games.
