I always laugh at how we are able to block special powers in a certain way, whether its blocking while ducking during Frost's ground freeze attack, or blocking Scorpion's spear with one hand standing up.

Even though I know that this will never happen, I would like to see a more of a realistic kind of way to dodge special attacks. Or scratch that, have an alternate way of something happening if you try to block a certain move.

Let's say you're Sub-Zero and you used your Ice Ball to try to freeze your opponent, but he blocks.

You're pissed becuase some guy magically blocked your special power, knowing that if this actually happened to you in real life, you'd be frozen entirely.

So, instead, if someone actually tries to block Sub-Zero's move this way, instead of the whole move being useless, it does freeze the opponent, but only the hands because he put them up to block the moves, only allowing you to perform kicking moves instead of punching moves for a few seconds.

Or let's say you're Scorpion, and he blocked your spear, instead of being stunned, Scorpion imaples the spear through the hands but does little damage because he hit the hands, not the body.

I'm just throwing this out there, not like it'll actually happen, but I'd like to know your thoughts if they really wanted to make a more realisitc way in performing a block against special powers. Because I find that very, very cheap and know that it could never happen in real life, even though I'm compaing real life and a cartoon life together.

Well of course, but it somewhat makes it more realistic than cheap.

That wouldn't work. Complicates "If when / If where / If then"programming too much.

But some of the ways these guys are blocking and parrying would work. All practical, and all the ways they do it look good.

Well, as I mentioned, I know it will never happen, but I'm just tired of looking at it like, you block a special move that can completely freeze you when touched, but it magically evaporates from you without actually doing a lot of damage. Seeing how blocking a move is like 1% damage?

I just think that it's cheap that you can block a special move, you guys do know what I'm trying to say, right?

Well...they should make them unblockable...and add a better parry system.

Well Raiden has an unblockable special in Mk vs Dc, if you hold the move long enough.

his name is Morshu and he's sensitive about his weight
and he had a Sub-Zero avatar which ment he probably uses Sub-Zero which means he would want this to happen so Sub-Zero will be more powerful. Also we play video games to escape realism. We want to do what we can't in real life. So I think video games shouldn't be that realistic.

Wow, I thought you're the kind of guy who doesn't like it when people go off topic on threads and call those people trolls. What a hypocrite you are.

Let's stop please, and just get back on topic shall we?

Projectiles should not be blockable, to get back on point; however, you could add a type of meter you must fill up to perform a projectile.

That way, you could some-what prevent people from whoring out the moves. Or you could just put a limit on them per match.

I like this idea. They should do this to look more realistic. Should something be just an action that happens when somebody freezes you, or will it do actual damage. i like the fact that you said that it should just freeze the hands if you block with them, because of that you shouldn't be able to use punches until your hands are not frozen. They should do something like that.smile

when blocking a special move it should cause 2% damage instead of the normal 1% because it should take more energy or strength to block the special move. also i like to have the special's limited to maybe 3 per match like the crappy combo breakers.

Ahhh, I get what you're saying! They should seriously do something about that! There should be some different character animations when blocking certain special moves, or basic attacks as well. I really liked the animations in MKDA (and onward) when you block a combo and they actually move their arms to block it, it's a badass idea, but it looks really stiff...
Different attacks should have different impacts on blocking, but not necesarily altering the gameplay, simply to raise it's asthetic quality.

How about make a toggle for blocking and special moves to be turned on and off while we are at it? Kinda like how blood can be toggled on/off. Just a suggestion.

The meter idea sounds kinda DragonballZ like but it could probably work well with some specials and could be enjoyable. The thing is,not all specials are projectiles so its a small chance that metered specials would happen. Limitations on the use of them would not seem right to me but hey that is my opinion.

that sounds cool but if you have to fill up a meter first it will be really annoying if you need to shoot a projektile(sorry bad spelling im swedish)
but to fill up a meter to make your attacks unblockable for like 10 seconds or something like that...wow

balance has never been mk's strong suit, and there have been great ideas posted here. not sure about limiting tho, i thought that weakened the parry system in deception. howoever, i have no clue what a better idea would be. i just like tekken's system for counters, but they have very few projectile characters, so i do not think that could be applied to mk well.

I agree with icebaby that we need a better system. But limiting things and having to fill up a meter would take away from the realism that you are trying to add. Also, limits ,always suck!

It wouldn't be that heavy on programming, I mean there are lots of other games, especially other fighters that are a hell of a lot more in-depth and complicated systems.
""Also we play video games to escape realism. We want to do what we can't in real life. So I think video games shouldn't be that realistic.""
We do want to be someone else and do things we wouldn't normally get away with doing, but what people are meaning when they say they want more realism is realistic physics and consiquences. For example: blocking a bladed weapon with your arm means you will loose that arm! I'm not saying we should be able to cut limbs off, I just saying that you shouldn't be able to block something like that so easily.

You know how - in boxing games - they have the dodge and weave moves.... what do you guys think of having something similar (press block and back makes you lean backwards - press block and up to lean away from the screen). If you look carefully during klose-kombat in MKvDC, they do these animation already.

Whoa... major Deja Vu!!
