They should not
Half ass the combat part of Mortal Kombat.
Waste time on too many extras.
Half ass stuff in general
Avoid delays and release a noticeably unfinished game
(They should set a time frame for them selves that is obviously longer than what they think they need to avoid this problem. )
keep the game overly simple
keep the 3 styles (They should have only 2 = Hand or weapon combat )
Overlook what game play elements work well in other fighting games

Interesting topic, to ask what things we think would be bad for once. I havent read all the posts but I will.
Bad Ideas:
-Bringing back original characters purely because theyre original. Come on, life moves on. (Even in msot TV shows that run for a long time, not all originals stay, infact most move on through series).
-Bringins back characters because the fans want them......but then not delivering the goods. (Sindel, Jade, Kabal and Nightwolf in MKD. Big let downs).
- Making MK7 basically MKD with extra characters.
-Having the 5 fallen warriors from MKD turn straight back to being evil.
-Having great storylines, and not exploring them. (Like killing all the good guys at the start of MK:D.....then have them pretty much do nothing. That could have been such a good story and side to MK:D)
- Having all the females dress skimpily.
-Having Shang and Quan Chi dead.
-Repetitive character stories.
-Spending too much time on side games, and ruining the fighting in the main game.
-Having a big roster, just to try and top the previous number, or to have the biggest roster ever. 40 half finished characters is worse that 20 decent, finished, well rounded characters.
-Tag-teams. Hate this idea.
-Having a sub-boss that has nothing to do with the main boss.
I'll prob think of more later.

They should atleast keep the little Tetris-eque game but program the fatalities so you can do most of them, if not all. That game was actually kinda fun. The chess one would have also been more fun if the peices had moved the way they should have and didn't put that trap reward thing in there or that revive thing. Just classic chess MK style.
