I want a cosmic stage, and I don't really care how I get it. It doesn't have to literally be in outer space, of course. It could be some inter-dimensional thing, or maybe even a realm between realms.

In a way, this has already been done. Dark Kahn's stage in MKvsDC was basically going for this, but if I remember correctly, the architecture was emphasized more than the cosmic elements.

So on a serious note, no, I don't want to see kombatants fighting on a spaceship. That would be kinda silly. However, I want a background that has outer space as the dominant aesthetic.

I think it bears mentioning that a stage with no interactables is definitely on my wishlist.

Remember the temple thing where Kang and Raiden met with the Elder Gods in MK9? I want it

I hope that doesn't happen it would make the game less of a next gen type of game and boring.

No. That doesn't suit MK at all in my opinion.

I think there is an existing stage that could incorporate this almost effortlessly. A stage that is neither here nor there. A place that has always struck me with a cosmic vibe even though it has never looked it.

The Nexus.

I remember knocking people into "the nothingness" of The Nexus in MKD. It always struck me with the same understanding as space. Infinite nothing yet infinite something.

Yeah, that was basically a remake of this stage from MK4:

except they replaced the walls and faces with an open-air coliseum and whole blue Elder God bodies.

That area was awesome, I would love to see it as a playable arena.

This idea is cool but it does need interactables to make it really a next gen game.

Technically we already had the Nexus.

Well, the many Portal stages are kinda this. It's not outer space as such, but MK has nothing to do with outer space, so I don't see why they would suddenly have a stage with such a theme.

I think we're 20 years past the "doesn't suit MK" phase.
Nah, I agree with DVorah. Go play Dead Space or see Star Wars if you want space.

I'd rather they brought back The Portal, tbh.

I wouldn't mind it. I think it would be a cool level.

Is it wrong for me to ask if you jump, you react the same way you move in space? All slow and such? Brings a little challenge to the fight eh?

But seriously, I think it would be something neat to play in.

Yeah, but it's not really space... It's something like the Nexus, I think. An in-between worlds place.

Well we don't want actual space, that wouldn't make sense. You can't breathe out there and MK isn't sci-fi enough to have a space station or rockets or anything in the plot.

Temp just said in the OP that he'd like a cosmic looking backdrop.

Yeah that galaxyish background is nice. I dig space, especially recently but I think I'd want something more like The Pit II. Something where you can see the sky and moon and stars or something but not necessarily planets.

That might be a little too serene for MK thoughgrin

That looks cool. Would love to see it playable.

Side note:One of the Elder Gods reminded me of Argus..

Though I don't think interactables in this game are going to create the balancing issues like they did in Injustice, I'll admit that I'm not crazy about them. I like the purity of the neutral game. I don't think every character should have a projectile or a hard-hitting special.

But I lost that battle, and given the extent of interactables in MKX, I'm okay with that. However, if we have one stage that doesn't have 'em, you still have the other 10-20 stages that probably will. I want that option on the table.

Even in the most casual circles of Smash bros, there are people who don't want items or mobile stages. I want MKX to have that same alternative.

Like Razer said, it's not about literally being in space. All I really want are the cosmic visuals. Honestly, I don't know why anyone WOULDN'T want that. I think when I mentioned outer space, people started picturing x-wings and space harbors, and that's not what I'm going for here.

Let's add a stage fatality, then. I was thinking earlier today that the cosmic arena would have a bridge instead of a full multi-sided platform to show off more of the background. I even thought about calling it Pit IV (which may be difficult, since Pit II has been retconned out of existence; it was nice knowing you best-stage-fatality-ever).

As for the stage fatality itself, just have an astral dragon or something chilling far in the background, and when you get knocked off, you fall in the abyss. And then you keep falling. And then you keep falling again. And then an astral dragon eats your shit.

BTW, I totally didn't get this idea from the "Avengers" film. No sir. Not a bit. Zero "Avengers" influence here.

Maybe if the guest character is from a sci-fi movie, he could bring an outer space stage along.

to Casselman

Space isn't infinite actually. Space has to be finite due to the laws of physics, planck, ect. Also both the nexus and space can't seperately be infinite, infinite would be everything, also the nexus is on top of a mountain, not in infintie space.

The closest thing to Space we can get is The Nexus stage Or a stage with a starry background with planets in the far distance and fleeting stars passing by.
