Evo is an annual fighting game tournament. Typically the participants are hardcore players and the event is split up between various major games.

These are the tournaments we have been working on for some more hype. And for those of you who haven't experienced Evolution, my best advice is to go and check it out. As a tournament player, or even a spectator, I promise you. You will have a blast, and an unforgettable weekend.
Its an honor to have Mortal Kombat at this tournament. I've waited, advertised tournaments, hosted locals, spread the word for so long, this is all so overwhelming. Thank you to all of the fans and competitors! And I hope to see you in Las Vegas this year for the tournament of a lifetime in MORTAL KOMBAT!
See ya there kids.

I doubt it very seriously. I don't think he ever competed in a single MK tournament, ever.

I havn't been much for these tournament type of things, and to be honest, I hadn't heard of EVO, but I'm very happy that MK is getting this recognition.

This was taken off of Hector's twitter page. Found it amusing, even if the backlash wasn't as bad as it would've been with MK vs. DC: http://bit.ly/hVM4uR

Anyone who thinks they aren't interested in tournaments and skips Evo will sorely regret it. I guarantee people who stayed home and end up watching the finals will be really upset they missed out. It doesn't matter if you're good or bad, if you win the tournament or go 0-2, there's plenty of time for casual matches and the entire experience is really fun.
No assumption is necessary. You can see the added layers of depth by watching gameplay vids. Quick getups, wakeup attacks, oki setups, dash canceling, etc... were all lacking from previous 3D MK titles. We also have the devs talking about just frame attacks, resets and other tactics that have been absent.
Yes, the game could still be lackluster, but we have a lot of confirmed evidence that this is going to be the most competitive MK title yet.

Interesting that it's been announced yet the game isn't even out for 3months.
The assumption that the EVO peoples have had some chance to test the game, possibly even give feedback to the MK team, for it to be included in the lineup.
Otherwise as with the past games, all the talking up of the gameplay prior to release end up being alot of hot air.

I've always heard about Evo being held in high regard, but have never put much thought into it. My intuition has always thought that games would have to be released and tested before being introduced into the tournament. I guess I am just surprised that I was wrong.

Im actually shocked that mk9 is going to be at EVO this year when there will only be 2 or so months for people to actually play it.
To start, NRS has not been at any tournies letting the pros try it out, and call me a downer but the reason maybe because they might be afraid the game will get ripped apart. Its one thing for a game journalist to get excited over X-ray moves and gore, but someone like a Justin Wong could pick this game up and essentially say its not up to snuff. MK vs DC was reviewed well, but there is a reason it was never at evo.
On one hand you have Capcom at every tourney and event showing off new builds of MvC 3 and taking suggestions from pro's during developement to make this the best game it can be. The game is a few weeks away and there is already frame data, combo lists and other in depth write ups on nearly every character
...... And then there is Nether Realm Studios's releasing character renders on Mortal Monday and with about 3 months to go, there has yet to be an in depth write up on the most basic gameplay, let alone how differemt characters feel. Yea we know about the ex moves, and the x ray moves and how they can combo into each other but that doesnt tell me anything about how the game actually plays. MK vs DC had pro moves, but that didnt exactly set the tournement scene on fire. We need to know how the game actually feels rather than the devs just showing us videos of them playing it. All I have seen is videos that show floaty characters and stiff animations, with no legit players giving any real impressions on the gameplay.
I have faith that MK will be the best MK since 3, that it will have a great story, awesome fatalities, awesome presentation and great MK momments, but that doesnt equate to being a high level competitive and deep fighting game, and NRS hasnt done shit to make me feel other wise.
I love MK for what it is. Depth in its fighting mechanics has never been a trait of this game, and I just dont see it being one now.

While it would be nice to have an in-depth write up, we can take a lot from the MKast vids. They show dash canceling, multiple wake up options, oki setups and things of that nature.
You also need to remember that this game isn't balanced yet and this is also the first game under WB. It took Capcom how long to get to where they're out now (in terms of community involvement)? The MK team is essentially starting over with WB so it will take some time.
I would like to see an in-depth write up, but not for another month or so. The game needs to be properly balanced before anyone can really do a write up on it.

Have any of you guys notice how much people are hating on mk in other fighters fansites such as shyuken.com or iplaywinner.com ?
Hey I'm just curious to know if any of you guys are planning to attend?
I'm strongly considering it but idk much about it.
The admission/participation is 10$ but god knows how much I'll need for hotel, gas....I really wanna go and kick some ass!

The entry fee for MK is $10. The tournament registration fee is currently $50. So if you registered today, it would cost you $60, not $10.
