I'd like to take a moment to point out a useless but interesting fact, while we are on the Subject of Sonya's Shoes....
Sonya is the only Mortal Kombat character to have worn Stilettos, Combat Boots, and Tennis Shoes over the span of every game she has been in....
For those of you complaining....Would you like me to turn this car around? -.o
We could keep her outfit exactly as it is....except...toss out the boots....and put some nice, solid white tennis shoes on this "Soldier" of yours....

Throw in some puffy white cotton socks to boot...

Yes, because it would have needed some finesse. You can't throw around contradictory sentences and sell it as sarcasm :)
I am seeing a tendency with NRS that each chracter will be more and more stylized, contradictory to the past 4 games. Which is fine, just not my kind of bread.

I think it's less about the actual high heels and more about Sonya looking out of character.Gosh, I know this is the third fucking time I say this, but I agree with Garlador. When did I offer any contradiction? Never mind, not important. Slapping babies, too edgy, got it.

The way I see it (and this is perhaps why I am so accepting of these additions), every person in the world, regardless of their professional position, will more often than not wear pieces other than their uniform. I'm sure Sonya wears PJs to go to bed (or a sexy lacy lingerie... black... with red accentuations... with see-though......... never mind). And I'm sure when she's out and about shopping for groceries or picking a bar fight (?), she rocks a casual attire. I'm also sure she has some sense of fashion and looking good despite being hard-edged, and would throw on a pair of high-heeled boots once in a while. Hey, who knows: maybe she thought she'd look stylin' rocking those boots with a couple pieces of her military gear and attire! I don't know, maybe I'm over-thinking it, but I just can't bring myself to relate to you guys being so startled over the specifics of what she's wearing :-/

It might have, apparently I should have used it when I posted that reply.
But yes, I'm sure Sonya spent hours packing her bags. Mortal Kombat tournament? Tracking down a federal fugitive? Hmmmm...
"Oh but what to wear!"
We're not even sure what she was doing when she got wrapped up in the MK universe. Have we been given any concrete reason that is going over my head to believe that she was on-call, in full uniform, doing something that totally calls for a full military outfit?

Theres nothing remotely interesting about this design, pretty boring actually, and nothing that makes it actually look/feel like Sonya. More like Nina Williams or Sarah Bryant in an MK game. Her select screen picture is awful as well ( though im sure all the characters select screen pictures will change, at least I hope they will). But given that none of the costumes so far have any real great design or flair to them, I dont know why Im surprised.
As for the high heels issue, I dont necessarily think they are approproate for fighting games but they do add a certain femininity. Not really appropriate for Sonya IMO.

Perhaps had they gone with the green colour of her MK1/MK3 outfits it would be better, tahts characteristic of Sonya to me.
Im also very fond of the red colour they have used for her alternate-colours.

I really like the dark green. It seems more modern and just looks more subtle and better. If you want to "justify" it, it's like a cross between her MK1 movie costume colour (black), and MK1 game costume colour (green).
Also, the original game's outfits were really bright colours. Presumably because of the pixellated graphics. It had a kind of 80s neon vibe. Now a lot of the characters' characteristic coulours are more subtle, muted and dark. Reptile and Jade aren't as brightly coloured as they were. Neither are Scorpion or Sub Zero. IMO it looks better now.

As far as I'm aware, Sonya was on duty tracking Kano. I doubt she'd have done this without a shirt and in heels.

We know exactly what she was doing. She and a team of Special Forces agents under her command were on duty, hunting Kano, who was on his way to the tournament. They chased Kano to the dock and watched him escape onto Shang Tsung's boat. They followed the boat to Shang's Island and were captured by his guards and imprisoned when they reached the shore. Shang then told Sonya "I'll let you enter the tournament. If you win, you and your men are free to go. If you lose, they'll all be executed."
That's all, like, straight from her bio. The little details are from the official canon MK1 comic by Tobias. Which, by the way, has been available on the internet, if you actually look for it, for quite some time. This shit is not some obscure mystery.
So for MK1, she should be in some sort of field gear, but I imagine she'd have stripped the heavier bits off so she'd be wearing something she could fight in comfortably during the tournament. It's not like she came with a packed suitcase.
TKD stance? Please let it be so.

I think it's clear that Sonya's first priority once accepted into the tournament would be to promote the event to fifteen year olds across the realm. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly delusional and has no respect for the reality of her situation. Shyeah.

Even though Sonya's bangs are back, I'm glad that they didn't make them look the same way they were done in MK vs. DC. Now that I've seen a larger picture of Sonya's new look, I definitely stand by my views on it. The face, hair, and body are all good, but the costume is garbage.
I hear things about this being a "futuristic" look, and I just don't see it. It just looks like a bastardization of what could have been decent. Some might argue about MK being fantasy, an exaggeration, but I don't want the series to go too far to one extreme. Here's hoping she'll at least be fun to play as.

She's super awesome. That's why.
Also, she's far more controversial than most characters (and definitely more interesting to talk about after all the Scorpion videos, pictures, etc).

So yeah, I REALLY hope that flying kick is just a regular jumpkick and it's not stealing space from one of her GOOD moves like the dust blow, ring toss, leg grab, or vertical bike.

If that ever happened the consequences would be apocalyptic (for the MKTeam).
I trust that after MKvsDC (and the huge complains during MKDA-MKA) they really did learn their lesson regarding the significance of signature and trademark moves. I'm sure Sonya's best moves will remain intact considering what we've seen from the other characters so far.

Same could be said about the straps around Scorpions huge muscles. It is clearly there to give it a "feel" and a "cool" look that adds to the design. I love it. I actually wish she had more random straps around her.

I see what you're saying, but like I said, I thought the red in MK4 was actually pretty spectacular. Shouldn't be her primary no, but I'd like to see more of it.
I much prefer the "alternate colouring" to actually be quite different to what it is normally, like Sonya's has always been. Green to blue in MK3/MKT (if I recall correctly), from black/that greenygrey in MK4 to red, the green jacket to white with a pink shirt in DA, white to gothic in VS DC. Looked nice and different and an actual change to her...

It's such a bad idea artistically to radically change a character's color scheme if they've had the same one consistently in every single appearance for years, unless there's a story reason for it.
Imagine if one day, Superman just showed up in green and purple tights, and never said a word to anyone about it, just pretended those were his normal clothes.
Point is, Sonya's color is green. Red doesn't look right on her. It didn't in MK4 either, I still don't understand why they would use a player 2 palette in a character's ending and marketing stuff. It's not like a real alt costume, the only reason those alt colors are even supposed to be in the game is so if two people pick the same character, you can tell them apart.

I disagree with Razors in that red didn't look right for Sonya in MK4. Like samuhai said, I think it was quite spectacular for her.
It's a strong color that she can easily pull off. All the marketing for MK4 featured red Sonya, so, I don't see a problem with giving her back that old theme.
Actually, instead of playing with black+red they should go with green+red.
Green vest + red shirt + green pants + a touch of red coloring around them = PERFECTION.

Hey Subby, did you see the Sonya scans? Because her sexy bangs look almost exactly the same way they did in MKvsDC (and I'm very glad about that). You can't really tell in the HQ picture, but, on her gameplay pics you can clearly see the long bangs covering part of her face side.
