She's not provocative in MK2. I specifically mentioned the open front laced top, nothing else, because it was what I was expecting.

At the same time, Kitana has always worn revealing clothes, it's really not anything new. Her outfits could always pass as bathing suits lol. There are different types of females, Kitana just tends to be a more visually appealing character, she's supposed to be beautfiful and desirable. Looking a little 'trashy' has always been apart of the character. If the lack of clothing is such a bother, there are other character, like Sonya.

Kitana looks good tho, I don't understand the complaints.

I don't think that it's a big deal that she has an oversized bust. I just think that it's an odd choice and well, not quite as good looking as when she had more regular proportions.

Maybe I'm just weird, I dunno, but at some point, as the boobs get bigger, eventually they stop contributing to a solid, curvy female shape and they just become kinda silly looking, as if the design came from the mind of a 14 year old.

I mean, I don't think they're as bad as Ivy or Taki from Soul Calibur, but compare her look now to what she looked like in MK2. Back then, she looked normal and pretty and now she has an almost anime quality to her that I'm just not that big a fan of.

Her overall design walks that line, I think. I like it, but I just think that maybe widening her waist slightly and maybe moving her from a Triple D down to a D or C could maybe improve her a bit.

I'm not saying that to sound like a prude either, I honestly think that giving her slightly more realistic proportions would enhance her overall look, not detract from it.

I honsestly don't think that how she's dressed is all that bad. I mean, let's call it accurately. This will be one of, if not the most violent, gory video game ever made. Liver's crushed by hand. People split in half, their insides hanging out, a character vomits acid in to his opponents mouth and another character chomps on the severed head of her defeated advisary.

Are we REALLY going to get all Puritanical and "oh no, don't show that" because a woman is showing cleavage? She's not naked or showing anything that would even make for a PG-13 movie, but some people are getting offended?

If you think that the outfit makes her look skanky and that's why you don't like it? Fine, that's cool. But I really hope that no one here thinks that it's too provocative or whatever. That's just...yeah... yikes.

Remember that there's a difference between sexy and trashy. Wonder Woman is sexy but she's not trashy. The lace in Kitana's outfit is pushing into that category. I won't say it's quite there (It's no Soul Calibur IV Ivy) but it is ironically a little boring when designers won't actually take the time to craft an interesting costume and instead take the easy route of "as little as possible."

Kitana is a princess with a mask and a blue motif. There's a lot that can be done with that. But if one requirement is to show as much skin as possible then the costume design is going to be creatively barren just by virtue of there not being much to work with. Look at the other character with a mask and blue motif. Sub-Zero's costume is amazing with a lot of noticeable detail.

Sorry, I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. I suppose that I just got a vibe from you and Vash and a few others that her outfit was tastelss and I think that I may have misinterpreted the context.

Is it more that you simply don't want to see her dressed like a skank because you think that detracts from her character? Or is it that you think that her being dressed like a skank is off-putting? I might have assumed the latter, when the reality is that you were most likely asserting the former.

In your original post, you just seemed kind of angry about the cleavage and what not and while I do believe, like Xiahoudun, that the loin cloth and what not is just lazy costume design, I was more or less asserting the point that it's odd that you were a bit put off by the cleavage amidst a game that's a veritable sea of blood, guts and gore.

I think that you just want her to look more realistic (proportionally speaking) and on that point, you and I completely agree. I think that she can look pretty without looking like some anime blow-up doll. I also think that her costume lacks originality and I hope that they evolve it a bit before the game comes out.

I agree whole heartedly. I don't think that her outfit is really pushing anything, but I do think that making an outfit look sexy is more than just pushing her cleavage up to her neck and giving her hooker boots.

There is a ton that can be done with the mask and the color blue. Alot of times it's what you don't show...

Of course, you can also show quite a bit AND have the right look. Sometimes it all comes together just right. I just don't think that this outfit, which is far too similar to something Mileena would wear, is that right look.

That crisscross top thingy was ugly in MK3 and is ugly now. I wish they'd stop giving it to her. Or at least make it like it was in MKDA.

Back in the day when Mortal Kombat 2 was released, Kitana and Mileena were seen as exposing too much skin, because they were fighting in leotards.

Times have changed and a leotard today won't really shock or impress anyone. It would simply be too boring if Kitana and Mileena showed up in their MK2 attire and then the design-team would be accused for lack of creativity.

Their attires this time around is befitting the gaming industry today where female characters are dressed like that. So all in all, what Kitana and Mileena wear are merely updates.

After reading your post a few times, I've been trying to figure out if you're saying:

"The need for Kitana's costume to be consistent doesn't give the creators license to make her look like ass,"

or if you're saying,

"The creators haven't been that consistent in the past, so for them to use the consistency defense now is bullshit.

If you're stating the first scenario, then I'll say again, it doesn't look that bad. The inlays on her clothes look pretty good, and though more clothing would have given her more artistic opportunities, there's a definite sleekness about it. It's certainly not as bad as what they did to Smoke, who as he currently stands, is a cloud in a gimp suit.

If the second scenario is what you're saying, then I just disagree with that general attitude. Even with the retcons and out-of-court changes, I still wouldn't say, "the seal is broken now; anything's a go," even if it's something as minor as costume design. It also depends on how you feel about the MK aesthetic in general. I happen to like the derivative nature of the MK nucleus.
