Not necessarily. Deadly Alliance is a good example of a game I feel is well done. Not perfect, of course, but well done. There was not a ton of focus on sex in the females in that game. Yes I realize it was the debut of "the thong", but that costume was still far more tasteful than what we're seeing in this game. MK:DA is still probably Kitana's best costume, though again not perfect but very elegant in my opinion. Li Mei's main costume was something unique and new, Frost was a female ninja. The main focus felt like it was on the story, where I prefer it to be, instead of on eye candy.
Again, I'm only asking for diversity. To go with what I said about MK:DA above, there was also Ashrah in MKD. I just don't think every female needs the exact same body and a skimpy costume thrown on it. They have toned down the silliness of Mortal Kombat from the 90's, and in my opinion their character design team is being just as "silly" as 18 ribcages are. Both are unnecessary and unrealistic.
Fire up MKDA, go into Practice mode, pick Li Mei, and try to tell me those aren't the dumbest boob physics you've ever seen after moving around the stage for a few seconds. Not to mention the fact that they were inconsistent amongst the female characters. If you ask me, MKA was less about the eye candy because it fixed this problem. No female character looked over the top in terms of sexuality with the exceptions of Mileena's infamous alternate and arguably Kira.
I'm with you on the fact that MK has slipped into the DOA/SC archetype recently and with how nonsensical Sonya's costume is for her proportions, but I just watched her gameplay footage and her breast physics aren't all that unrealistic. They don't strike me as being overly bouncy but they certainly aren't cemented in place... seems about right to me.
I also must add that I don't think they're doing all that poorly when it comes to diversity. I mean, sure, we're being given boobage left and right, but as an example, there should be zero outcry over Kitana's outfit. She's the best dressed female I've seen so far (now if only they'd get rid of those damn heels) with Sindel being a close second. I'm not all that impressed with Mileena's costume, as the old adage "less is more" is really only true to a certain degree.
tl;dr- I'm not going to let a big set of tits deter me from enjoying the game as best I can.
