I was going to criticize the fact he used a chainsaw, which seemed way out of character, even for this new Johnny that has a seemingly large new bag of tricks...
But upon re-watching i realized the chainsaw is just a stage interaction prop. So nevermind. Lol.

I’ve realised he looks a bit like John Barrowman and now I can’t unsee it... :’( I hate John Barrowman
Awesome! Cage is really cool in this new MK! I liked the fatality, too.
Never been a Johnny fan, but he looks outstanding. Seems like they really nailed his personality and the move set looks great (which is becoming a theme for mk11).
A worthy addition to the roster in my opinion even tho I won’t be maining him.
On a side note.... since they’ve kept true to his moveset (just made enhancements) I am really hoping the revamp Cassie and make her grow into her powers.
Green lantern Cassie cage or bust for me!! Make her different from her parents please!
Never shake hands with a man who wears his heart on his sleeve.

Alt costume for those upset with his default
Wasn't looking forward to Cage, but man, that trailer was great. Gotta echo the poster who talked about it being probably the most creative iteration of Johnny we've seen. Moves look tight as hell and he actually looks fun to play.

Getting some MK2 vibes from that.

is that jax at the 1.30 mark of the trailer in the background ?
After pausing and zooming I think it could possibly be Bo' Rai Cho. Freeze it right when the announcer says "Fight!" and the screen flashes: big gut, bushy beard. But some frames look like the hair and face are just a little wrong for Bo'. At some angles and lighting he looks rather like Zangief. Which is funny because the markings on the train look Russian.
I have a hunch that this arena is adjacent to the Black Dragon Fight Klub. The Fight Klub has always felt like it has an Eastern Hemisphere vibe to me, for some reason. I was thinking somewhere in Southeast Asia before but Russia is also plausible.

I’ll have to admit, the first time I watched the trailer, my thoughts were kinda tepid. Just kind of “yep, that’s Johnny Cage.”
But the more I’ve watched it, and after seeing his breakdown on the Kombat Kast today, the more I absolutely dig him.
I love the stunt double moves, which actually feel MK9 Noob-ish, which I like. I also love the Ninja Mime reference for his parry, and I just really like him having a party to begin with. The sunglasses throw and the camera flash are a little silly, but Cage is a little silly, so I don’t mind them. The brass nucks also seem like a nice addition from his MKX repertoire.
He has a lot of stuff that old, a lot of fun new stuff... One of my favorite aspects of this game is that there’s always fun stuff you can use to put a moveset together, even if you don’t love everything a character can do. Ultimately, I’m really happy with how he turned out!
I honestly love what they’ve done with every character so far. Everyone seems to have some fun aspects that really kinda flesh out their personality. I keep reacting to each character trailer and breakdown with “wow, that could be my main,” and that’s very rare for me.
I’m actually really psyched to see what they’ve done with Kano next week, and that comes from an avowed 3D era apologist that wishes they’d add more of those characters. Really hope we get another character reveal next week tho.

Its not a fat person. There is some kind of construction/safety cone on the railing that is in front of this person. So it looks like a big gut. I think it might be Jax with a giant beard. Going for that Kimbo Slice Look. or Mr. T if you're as old as me. LoL

... um. I'm not sure how or why a safety cone would be balanced on a skinny metal railing. But here, check out how this looks when you stop the video exactly at the light flash, when the figure is more fully illuminated:
Arms, folded over top of the bulge and not looking particularly metallic. Coat, overlapping slightly on either side. Legs, bulky and consistent with the outline of the hefty upper body. This is either a man with rather large proportions, or a safety cone that this rather largely proportioned man ate for breakfast.
The question is, is this big dude our familiar big dude? Something seems a little off in the face for this to be Bo' Rai Cho, and I have no idea what he'd be doing in what appears to be a Russian slum.
Probably one of Kano's random Black Dragon thugs. Just a bouncer for the fight club out having a smoke. Kano calls him "Tiny"... not to be ironic but to be a bastard because Tiny's actually part Korean and it is VERY cold in Russia ;-P.
I agree with the "that's not a gut" assessment.
Looks like one of these mounted to the top of the railing... which somewhat fits the construction-y setting...

I didn’t watch the Kast as I just can’t stand Steve so just skimmed over the bits of Johnny.
just wondered if his nut punch has a krushing blow?
i guess they might save it for Cassie
They said it’s does.
I didnt see the kast either...so i wonder what the "special announcement" was? haven`t heard squat about it since the tweet from Tyler..
They’ve announced a “stress test beta”. This is not the preorder beta, which happens a few days later. You have to sign up for it at the website.

I see one of those where the gut should be too. It looks like his jacket is on either side of the flashy light thing and his legs are also quite hefty looking. So it looks like a guy of Bo's size to me. Having said that, I am not convinced it is Bo. I don't think its anyone important but I enjoyed reading your guys' speculation.
EDIT: I answered holy shit's question but Detox beat me to it.
Didn't say humor was completely abandoned; it just doesn't have the same absurdist elements that helped make MK2-3 as memorable as they were. Though still funny, "Here's Johnny" is much more sedated than even his MK9 trophy Fatality (which I'm also glad to see referenced).
Fourth wall humor isn't just a "these days" phenomenon. Hell, Liu Kang dropped a Mortal Kombat arcade machine on your head in the 90's. Seeing Johnny Cage bring along his stunt doubles and film crew to document his fights kinda nudges the fourth wall (the fight camera is his camera, apparently) but Liu Kang straight up acknowledging that his life is a video game totally demolishes it.
The new Cage Fatality does feel a little long, possibly because it has multiple distinct beats each with a hard stop; it's not designed to "flow" from one action to the next. But though I haven't sat down to actually time it, I don't think it has any more runtime than say, Kabal's running Fatality. Are we really going to crap on Johnny Cage for being self-indulgent, though?
As for quippy characters in MKX, only Johnny, Cassie, and Jacqui are all that quippy. I will say Sonya's "spoiler alert" line during fights is pretty cringe and should have gone to Cassie or Johnny. But honestly I'm having a hard time figuring out who else was being particularly quippy besides the three I mentioned, and it's a real stretch to hyperbolize three characters as "half" the cast. (Sure, match intros tended to be a lot quippier than story dialogue... but come on, you gotta have a little fun with the intros.)
If you think this Johnny design doesn't match his story and personality, then I think you're overlooking the fact that this is an older and more grown-up Johnny who's had a kid, taken on a serious role as Earth's foremost mortal champion, presumably trained in the Realm of Order -- and matured into a little less of an arrogant, clueless, showboating douche in the process. The character has evolved, and as much as I enjoy a tongue-in-cheek callback to the past, I disagree that the character should be fundamentally stuck in the one role forever.
If I seem to be painting you as someone who hardly has anything good to say about the game, it's because that's the overarching pattern of the posts I've seen from you. When I see the name Onaga topping a post, I don't expect to read anything positive (though I'll give you a bit of credit for typically being more constructive about your complaints than some others bother to be, even if I often disagree with your point).
Whew lawd that certainly is a mouthful, I guess I'm owed that after the pile I heaped back at you.
I'll cop to being a bit of a cynic these days when it comes to MK but what can I say? I'm passionate about MK so when I see something I disagree with it brings forth a passionate response.
No that style of humor is not new by any means but I would say we are certainly being over saturated in it these days.
As for Johny's design this go around. I don't know I want to meet you half way and agree with you but we've seen in his interactions and even how he carries himself in the story modes that, he hasn't changed much. Sure there is a aspect of Johnny that is mature.
But the flashy cocky hollywood start aspect is still there too. I believe characters should first and foremost be designed to be eye catching and alluring not subdued in practical attire to solely suit the narrative of the game.
Johnny can be those things and still dress like he's about to walk a runway or the red carpet. I would argue that's a better way to show Johnny's maturity with a more refined but still flashy look.
Uh, christ I swear I'm trying to make this shorter.
When it comes to the fatalities, the differences you mentioned are why I can enjoy the "Here's Johnny" Fatality and why this one just rubbed me the wrong way. That one knocks on the fourth wall, this one kicks it down. Also does anyone ever really champion the arcade fatality as good? I only ever see it applauded ironically.
Last point to address: My generalization about the how certain characters were written. I was wrong. The Kombat Kids and Johnny were written like Joss Whedon characters while the rest of the cast were pretty much stone serious. Kind of a lack of diverse character voice across the board really.
The same counts for me. First I saw only the render of him being revealed. Later I read about the trailer and watched it. The more I watched it ( and i watched it several times, even more than Jade's or Kabals trailer), the more I was interested. I don't think he gonna be my main but i definitely gonna try him. His moveset and Gameplay looks good and i am looking forward to dress him like a MK2 JC and play him like the good-old-days-Johnny :-)

That would be a ridiculously large light -- at least half the size of a human torso, with a diameter to match -- mounted on what is, again, a skinny metal railing. This interpretation makes only very slightly more sense than the safety cone.
But let's just say that I'm wrong about that one detail and there really is an object nonsensically perched on that railing for some reason -- which is possible. Forget the "gut" then, and look at the size of the man's torso, legs, and head, all of which contribute to the silhouette and consistent proportions of a man with a large gut.
Enhance.
He isn't even musclebound or barrel-chested: all of his outlines round out about the middle. His cheeks fill out his face beneath the beard. He's fat. Even if he really is standing behind something, he is still fat.
So... if it's Bo', what's he doing here? If it's not Bo', then he might still be important: Counterintuitively, people who are just standing in a pose, quietly existing in the background and doing nothing, tend to be important characters -- while random bystanders tend to be doing something interesting to give a sense of life and purpose to the space.
If it's just an insignificant background dude who's not worth splitting hairs over though, then I kinda like Bloodfang's idea.
I liked Cage in the first two games.
In MK9 he was badass, MkX he was not that good but now he looks more badass than ever. Hé looks superfun and cool..and that fatality..Sickingly GooD!
