My God this game just keeps looking better and better! The fluidity... Jaw dropping, all puns intended.
Is it the same voice actor from MK X?
Never shake hands with a man who wears his heart on his sleeve.
Oh good, we're still going with the Special Forces look why would he ever wearing anything other than a tan vest a black shirt and slacks right? It's not like he's a cocky glamorous showboating hollywood action star or anything. *Sigh* at least he's wearing sun glasses this time.
And before anyone uses the "customization" excuse let me just save you the trouble and counter you right now. First impressions are everything. Being able to customize a characters appearance is not an excuse for a bad default design.
Also it's good to see the insufferable millennial who wrote all the dialogue for the Kombat Kids got their fatality idea into the game. Yeah I did not like that at all.
The military-casual look is pretty standard for an American action star -- especially a notoriously egocentric showboat like Johnny's inspiration, Van Damme. Fits well on an older and more worldly Johnny, too.
That Fatality takes us back to a time when absurdist humor was a staple of Mortal Kombat, which is something a lot of fans have missed since the series went full grimdark. It's an injection of goofy shit inspired by the classic bonesplosion era of MK, coming from the one character you'd expect to see it from. If you can't enjoy that Fatality for what it is, then I might recommend a trip to the emergency because I suspect you're lacking a pulse. ~Signed, the insufferable (older-range) Millennial who wanted to see Johnny get a triple uppercut Brutality in MKX -- three heads and all -- and is happy to see them at least make a reference to it from the framework of the newer games' more grounded presentation.
Not surprised to see this kind of sour going around, though. Some posters seem to have nothing but negative opinions about anything Mortal Kombat does, like they're getting a kickback from a rival studio or something.
Gdlike fatality and he has some good kick animations. Dont like his doucheface and some of the wacky moves. Sure those are custom moves

Funny. Now was that a clone, stunt double or his younger self Cage calls to place the opponent in the Full Nelson? Perhaps I didn't see it I'll have to watch it again, where was his Nut Punch?
I got the impression it was a stunt-double. As for the nut punch...he nut-punches Baraka while the stunt-double is holding him.
He also uses his sunglasses as a projectile, a flash camera to stun, and does a mime-in-a-box as a parry move.

Dude, Johnny split a guy in half in the last game and made a Shinning reference. Don't tell me humor was completely abandoned in MKX, especially when it came to Johnny.
I don't mind the humor but I mind this style of humor. That 4th wall kicking "lol meta" humor that is basically plaguing everything these days. It's fine in Deadpool let's just leave it with him. Maybe one day he'll pay royalties to She-Hulk she stealing her shtick.
MKX was all grim dark when it came to the aesthetic of the game but half the characters spoke in insufferable Joss Whedon quips. Also don't make me out to have some all out blind hate vendetta for MK like I'm a SF fanboy or something. I am highly critical of modern MK because I don't agree with certain decisions but I have praised aspects of this game too. It all comes from a place of love for the series.
And to respond to your first point. It doesn't suit Johnny. The guy who has his own name tattooed on his chest should be just as flashy with his fashion as he is in personality and how he carries himself. But this is a major problem NRS is having in general with character design right now.
The designs are too practical and dull rather than an extension of the characters personality, story and mythology.
To come back to the fatality one last time. Besides the style of humor the other thing I don't like is it's too long and self indulgent. It's practically a cutscene.
PS - Also older range millennial by the by.

Also, seems $500 sunglasses are more affordable than they were 25 years ago...

Didn't say humor was completely abandoned; it just doesn't have the same absurdist elements that helped make MK2-3 as memorable as they were. Though still funny, "Here's Johnny" is much more sedated than even his MK9 trophy Fatality (which I'm also glad to see referenced).
Fourth wall humor isn't just a "these days" phenomenon. Hell, Liu Kang dropped a Mortal Kombat arcade machine on your head in the 90's. Seeing Johnny Cage bring along his stunt doubles and film crew to document his fights kinda nudges the fourth wall (the fight camera is his camera, apparently) but Liu Kang straight up acknowledging that his life is a video game totally demolishes it.
The new Cage Fatality does feel a little long, possibly because it has multiple distinct beats each with a hard stop; it's not designed to "flow" from one action to the next. But though I haven't sat down to actually time it, I don't think it has any more runtime than say, Kabal's running Fatality. Are we really going to crap on Johnny Cage for being self-indulgent, though?
As for quippy characters in MKX, only Johnny, Cassie, and Jacqui are all that quippy. I will say Sonya's "spoiler alert" line during fights is pretty cringe and should have gone to Cassie or Johnny. But honestly I'm having a hard time figuring out who else was being particularly quippy besides the three I mentioned, and it's a real stretch to hyperbolize three characters as "half" the cast. (Sure, match intros tended to be a lot quippier than story dialogue... but come on, you gotta have a little fun with the intros.)
If you think this Johnny design doesn't match his story and personality, then I think you're overlooking the fact that this is an older and more grown-up Johnny who's had a kid, taken on a serious role as Earth's foremost mortal champion, presumably trained in the Realm of Order -- and matured into a little less of an arrogant, clueless, showboating douche in the process. The character has evolved, and as much as I enjoy a tongue-in-cheek callback to the past, I disagree that the character should be fundamentally stuck in the one role forever.
If I seem to be painting you as someone who hardly has anything good to say about the game, it's because that's the overarching pattern of the posts I've seen from you. When I see the name Onaga topping a post, I don't expect to read anything positive (though I'll give you a bit of credit for typically being more constructive about your complaints than some others bother to be, even if I often disagree with your point).
Dude.. I feel you! Gives me the chills. Thinking about his mk2 friendship seeing it for first time, lol.

You know he's leveraged his status as Two-Time Oscar Winner and Earthrealm's Greatest Champion to score a sponsorship from Ray Ban or something.
I'm going to assume this is the character we'll be seeing in today's Kombat Kast.
Well, more the reason to skip it.
Meh, I just can’t get excited for Cage no matter what they do with his character. Every time they announce a new MK game they should just straight up reveal, Sub, Scorpion, Raiden, Cage, Sonya, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Jax and Kano so they are done and out of the way then save the real “surprise” or more unexpected reveals for the lead up to the games release to better build hype and intrigue!
I couldn't agree more. Giving Johnny Cage his own video is a waste of space. Could've given it to a character we didn't see coming.

Giving him his own video is a "waste of space?"
You do know that there is virtually unlimited space on the internet for promotional videos, right? It's not like the marketing team is stealing time from the actual game development or something.
I think Fujin is boring, but it wouldn't be a waste of space if they made a trailer for him.
Shao Kahn did nothing wrong

Revealing a character and then talking about said character the same day in a stream isn't unheard of, guys. He's got plenty of new stuff they want to show off. This isn't a waste.
I’ve watched the trailer countless times now, and I am really liking it more and more. Kabal was alright, Jade was meh, but this has to be the best reveal yet.
Love the double flash kicks (very Guile-like), love the camera flash and sunglasses projectile, that cartwheel kick in his fatal blow is perfect for Johnny Cage. And best victory pose yet.
Definitely my second main.
That looked like a victory pose to me but the announcer was cut off. Some people are pointing out that it looked like a friendship and "mercy" is returning this game... But with customisable win poses, I don't think they would bring in friendships would they?

Even if i liked the fatality i completly agree with you. So much is out of place with MK since MKx..
The new age kids @NRS have such a different vision on MK that i find hard to like. MK9 was so good.. so unfortunate that Hector Sanchez left NRS. He had good influance on MK... i will try this game but i can already tell its less MK and more injustice with teenager heroes humor.. this might be the last NRS game i play. and i thought MK was back with MK9...

Doesn't inflation make things MORE expensive ie a $10,000 loaf of bread?
Seeing the scene/take clapboard in his Fatality makes me want to see a move where a boom mic drops down to smack the opponent's head...

Exactly so $500 now are worth less than back then so $500 glasses now are more affordable.
