I finally had more time to think about it and heres what my new opinion is.
This isn't MK at all.
They changed to much in this version, that to me, it just doesn't have the MK feel the first two movies had. Yeah, MKA was bad, but at least you knew who everyone was and it was still set in the MK universe. You could easily title this as a different fighting movie and that would be ok but not MK, and yeah i know its just a short but its anything but MK.
Does it look interesting? Well yeah, but its still missing the MK feel to it, for me to be interested in it.
You can't change Reptile from what he is to a human, thats like the mistake they made in the mario bros movie, it just won't work. Same with Baraka, you can't change him like that, if you want him to look like that, that is one thing, but to have him as a human when he is not one in the games or anything other to do with MK is just kinda ehh and doesn't really make me believe yeah that is baraka. Only persons I felt were right was cage, sonya and jax. IMO the director went to far from the games characters to make me believe this was set in a world where MK takes place.
Instead of just rebooting and taking a big risk at ruining MK more, why not just give us a better sequel to the first MK movie and be done with it?
I'm willing to take risk and try other ppls new take on something i love, but not that big of a difference u know. And I know this doesn't mean he will, just to show how violent he would make it but I hope he doesn't change it that much u know? Good luck whoever does direct it and whatever the change I hope it works and I hope it turns out to be the best MK movie ever.

Good for him. Doesn't mean everyone has to.

Although the trailer is cool, it isn't Mortal Kombat. I would go with the gritty and the dark, but not with the realistic approach. If the fantasy/sorcery element is removed, you can't talk anymore about MK.
Sure, Annihilation sucked big ass, but the first MK-movie was great, especially considering it did not have a monster budget. But I still think it's one of the best examples from game to movie.
If you don't like the fantasy/sorcery elements, then I wonder why the hell you're interested in MK (movie- and/or gamewise).

They've stated time and time again and they fully intend to include sorcery and shit if the movie gets made, it wasn't in trailer for time/budget reasons. Did you even see Sub-Zero or Scorpion's eyes?

I thought it was cool and a different take on Mortal Kombat! Kinda like a CSI detective approach. Funny as hell to see Scorpion in average clothes! Hanzo Hasashi is dead...I AM SCORPION!

I for one loved it! What i saw was an alternative view on an almost dead concept. Mortal Kombat as we know it used to be very dark. By explaining some things like Reptiles skin desease we kan have both a little realism and the Reptile that we know.
Baraka on the otherhand was weird for me, but I do not know if the tournament had started. Maybe before the great kombat begins he'll look different. Scorpion showed to have no eyes, so there are many things that can be shown.
The footage is to short to give accurate comment on what the whole movie would look like. I do not know what is going on in the mind of the director. But what he has shown me begs for more

I love how creative and original they were .
But what I saw wasen't Mortal Kombat .
They should do something dark, gritty, and campy. Like what Zack Snyder did with Watchmen.

I think the characters may be different in the finished film. He explained about the Baraka explanation was that he wasn't able to splash on on effects for a mutant.. and given he didnt want an actor in a goofy looking baraka suit like annihilation.. he altered the character.
i'm all for it.. Mortal Kombat does not have a hollywood audience anymore.. only direct to dvd.. as much as i love mortal kombat, they need to do something different to capture a bigger market. that's smart marketing

Um yea...bottomline. It is a hoax! I can prove it! It smells worse than shit! Um..my mom had no idea what she was seeing...maybe it was a result of anxiety. I hope if that guys has any balls at all, he will let me interview him like I did the guy who actually is writing the only new MK film on youtube.

Personally, while I have no problem with people disliking certain aspects of it or even not liking it at all, I don't quite understand the logic that's it's simply not Mortal Kombat.
It's an INTERPRETATION of Mortal Kombat. It extrapolates off of the source material and finds its own way of functioning in the world of the original work. Kind of like how Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher all made Batman films, but they were all incredibly different takes on the source material.
I mean honestly. Look at the six character pictures to the immediate left of the message box. The site themes. Can you HONESTLY tell me that you want to see a live action movie with those characters exactly as they're made right now? Reptile? BARAKA!? It would look ridiculous. It would look like Mortal Kombat Annihilation, which I believe is still in IMDb's bottom 20 films of all time. ALL TIME.
So yeah, I personally have no problem with a director that loves the source material, who created that teaser on a shoestring budget, getting the time and money to make a full length movie that contains the essence of Mortal Kombat, projectiles and all, but doesn't necessarily look like a video game that was created 18 years ago.
Why some grown men and women on this board actually seem to want that is honestly beyond me.

Um.. you're stupid and gay!
Horrible. It was like watching a detective film with crazy twists and turns.
More like a suspense movie to me.
What is Baraka doing in a nice home and with locs? Where are the realms?
I heard that this was merely an idea but not a final movie plot.
Oh yea, I did not enjoy the fighting scene, it was bad.

This is no movie; it's a science experiment.

What kind of absurd mindset is yours? So it has to be either 100% extreme fantasy or 100% extreme reality? That doesn't make any sense.

@Chrisjamwood (NOUN2): MK: Rebirth was not a hoax, it was real; we just saw it. Will it become a full-fledged, 1.5 hour film? No clue, but MK: Rebirth was a real fan-film project, and we've just seen the completed work. Any other film that is being brought up or mentioned is not related to my comment.

I love this short film. I think its RAD ive talked to some huge MK fans and they all love it. Yes its different but it feels new like im seeing MK for the first time. Maybe cause its dark gory everything that MK is. I usually hate when they change crap around but for some reason i think its cool. If WB says yes i hope they keep the film just like this short film.
Did anyone notice about "7:12" into the trailor they flash a face of a ninja?
Is that Scorpion in Ninja costume or Subzero or Smoke?????

Anyway, it looks like my favorite franchise is comming back hard good looking new game and movie!

It's obviously Sub-Zero.
