I absolutely love this one kingjolly. It is fantastic. Very vibrant in color and has a wonderful flow. If I lived anywhere near you, I would totally buy this from you. You have some great artistic talent. Just out of curiosity, what was your inspiration for this one?

Thank you very much. It's comment like this that keep me going. The image is based on a fire tutorial I saw online. Cant quite remember where I found it. Some of the techniques I used on the image were used on "Watch The World Burn" painting.

Fur shur...

Jay Wills:

Cool younger cat I used to go to high school with. I think he's moved on to something more career oriented since though. Not sure...He's had that hair since I've known him.

Mike Scarlet:

Cool guy all the way...went to college with him. He is also a designer, but does more commercial work. Last time we spoke he wasn't an owner of his own company, but I think he's got something like that going now.

==========

Your stuff is very impressive btw.

Watch the World Burn - Puts life in perspective for second. With this image, we can understand on a human level that even our best and brightest can't "save" everything we might hold in high regard. Everything can burn. And while these monuments can be central to our identity as human beings in this day and age, all those defining qualities about us and our culture can be washed away with a wave of fire. All we would be able to do is watch...

Dance - This one reminds me of how I look at a client during a meeting. The way I see it, everyone has this sort of energy about them, and my job, is to be able to see it, read it, interpret it, and turn that otherwise invisible energy into something more real for them.

Dancing has a way of freeing us from inhibitions and I think this piece puts that energy on display well. There's no other energy in this image but "free."

Light Me Up - Very impressed with this one. It's sexy, it's hot, and again with the great energy. At the same time, this one also houses a very dangerous, and also, hopeless sort of energy in it as well.

It's nice and curvacious with the beautiful woman standing there looking provocative. That same provocative quality about her might say that she's promiscuous, a liar, a thief, or just a bad girl in general. Very enticing.

The fire, colors, and the general up-flow of the fire around her gives her the quality of danger. Suggesting that she might actually hurt you if you trust her. It also contributes to a sense that "looks can be deceiving", which further drives home why you might not want to allow this beautiful girl to get too close to you.

Anxiety - I like this one because it actually kinda looks like the idea of anxiety to me. To the point where, the boxes in the background represent life in the norm, and the shards represent how out of place one feels in anxious moments.

I like how you used the color too. Variations of the oranges, reds, and browns are more exciting colors than the variations of blues, greens, and greys. So in a sense, this image is showing the pressure that normality presses upon us ("us" being the shards in defense of our own over-conscious selves) in anxious situations. lol

There's good balance in this one through the use of "white-space", which is done by placing black in there carefully, allowing the color white to have a presence throughout the thing, and using lines to define the separation of two different personalities in the image. One being the intrusive normality, and the other being the defensive, protective, and alert self conscious.

This is a very fun piece to look at because it appears to be a group of people picking on one person from the first-person viewpoint. Heh...the blues represent us, in the first person view, trying to remember and maintain what we know to be cool about our-self...but the irony is that those pieces are broken. Suggesting that we can't really remember what's cool about our self at the moment, so that we might be able to properly protect ourselves from all those intrusive normal boxes. lol

Look at that paradigm....Very good.

Wonderful stuff KingJolly.

If you don't mind me asking, these are all improvised traces, correct? Photoshopped // Paint coloring, some layering effects and maybe liquify used sparingly?

Either way, I like what I'm seeing now, and I really like where your artistic eye seems to be leading you in the long term. I've seen what an artist like yourself is capable of maturing into and it's nothing but good. People out there now are dieing for a great artist to come along and help define what life means to them through art. Keep up the good work bro...yea.

Great thread idea, and nice designs everyone!

I find it really interesting how MK is a pretty brutal and, well, savage sorta game, but it's able to spawn a great deal of awesome artwork and creativity from its fans.

People bring their unique art styles from working on other projects to the MK universe, and it creates a good mix of different styles which makes this board awesome!

I think what I just said made sense... :P

I wondered what happened to you KingJolly, I was missed looking at your work. To be honest, I really enjoyed everything about your new piece except the words in the picture. The piece seems to have nice flow and composition until it reaches the lettering. It just doesnt fit to me. However, the color scheme to this piece is fantastic and I love the electricity of the work.

Just some of my thoughts on your wonderful work.

Thanks for all the critiques Pred. To answer your question, the pieces have posted either come straight from my memory, others have been partially photo-referenced, and a few of these have been admittedly traced, (mainly to save time).

Hiyo! Thought I'd contribute to this one. Trying to improve my portrait-style pics, especially the hair ( my usual source of criticism XD ) and creating depth.

Again, nice work KingJolly! It's always exciting to see new works from ya.

I really love how the subject of the portrait really gazes at you. It's as if they are looking right into you. It is a very crisp, clean drawing as well. Fantastic job Hydraslash!

You know, I really like seeing others work and commenting on it. Maybe I should draw something up and post it one day.
