I think its because nobody really knows who they are facing. They could say I'm gonna krush you before the match and then when they actually see who they are going against they'd be like "...Damn I'm screwed."

I have a question... The preliminary round was to figure out who went into the first brackets of the eliminations, right? Well, what about all these other characters that have not been seen? They dont get voted on before deciding whether they are given the chance to fight? Kinda seems unfair to the first 8 of us that had to sweat out two different "firing squads" if you will.

The preliminary round was held because there were too many characters. We needed 96, and there were 5 too many so Crow decided to have the last 13 characters submitted fight for inclusion.

As well, with suh a long deadline leading into the close of submissions, as callous as it sounds, it rather serves you right, so to speak, for submitting your characer so late. I obviously don't mean that in the sense that you deserve punishment for not being first out of the gate, but it's really only fair that the last to audition should be the ones competing for their spots.

And to the person commenting that no one really knows much about their first round opponents, that's only mostly true. I'm up against Komodo from the Prelims. And while I have confidence in my character, Komodo is strong enough a concept hat I'm not going to make any arrogant "You're done for!" comments anytime soon.

I have absolutely no idea what my opponent's gonna be like, but then again, our match is the last one of the final bracket, so I got a long while to sweat it out, lol.
