Looks like they released it because they were working on it, but now they CAN'T do anything else with Quan Chi in-&-or-with MKvsDC. I've done that before, and I'm sure some of you have started doing something, and couldn't finish for whatever reason. Time ran out, you weren't gonna get a good grade on an assignment, or you couldn't find use for something you have..ect. Point is, it became worthless to you so you gave it away...
I'm usually against dropping the ungrateful bomb, but that's the vibe overall in this thread (geez). They're not gonna get much else out of releasing this is why I say that. So idk, try to just....."enjoy the entertainment"? Maybe?
- Another thing to look at is the fact that it's Quan Chi. Member Kassanof? The MKTeam must have been able to retain the rights to the character if Ed himself released this render. Either that, or this is the last "whoo-rah" and he wanted to show this character to us one last time.

Personally, I love it anytime they release stocks/renders, and I hope the transition to WB doesn't change that they release them. It's really something they don't have to do. They probably shouldn't be doing 'em since the return on releasing renders doesn't equate to much except for hyping up a coming game.

I believe Quan Chi is still their's, otherwise I'm pretty sure Boon would've said something like "We're going to miss Quan Chi" or something along those lines. It really wouldn't make sense for Threshold to keep the character since they can't do anything with him.

I guess not. *shrugs*
Look, this is the e-pit-o-me of the definition of the word ungrateful. The pinnacle even. "Resenting" what I said doesn't change one single thing.
And I look at it like this:
"Here ya go fans, you already paid for it, and you were gonna pay some more for it, but here's something extra that we managed to finish (this picture), but couldn't complete the playable version. We heard you when you said you wanted DLC, so we listened, & were producing it for you. This may be the last time you see this character, or character renders in general, so I hope you enjoy the entertainment in it for what it's worth.
So? What you're saying is ungrateful on a number of levels. [1.] You don't appreciate the work that went into it, [2.] you don't appreciate the fact that they listened to you when they didn't have to (like most other franchises), and [3.] you don't appreciate the fact that you didn't have to pay for what you are seeing.
All because you can't play with the character in the picture? I guess I see your angle, but me? Looks like I can play:
23.76kb so, anyone who wants to can wear this on MKO. Enjoy!..For free mind you.
lol
It's free work. They're job is to entertain us. Imagery//Artwork is a form of entertainment....Be grateful you didn't have to pay for that entertainment.

Oh wow, I can see a picture...on the net....for free!?! No way!!! Normally I have to pay to see pictures on the net! That's fantastic! Especially of Quan Chi! Lord knows they aren't any other pictures of him.
The render is pretty meaningless in the end. Good for an "oh cool", but that's about it. What kind of reaction were you expecting, really? I DO appreciate that they at least tried to get DLC in the mix, don't get me wrong. And I see your point on how this render is proof they tried, and I thank them for that.
But for anyone (MK staff, this site's moderators, whoever) to expect us to be jumping out of our seats for it? I don't think so.

That's the point. Y'not gonna get nothin else for that game, so to complain about something ya did get for that game is even more shallow and vain than what you describe as the release of a "meaningless" image.

Quan Chi is one of my favorite characters. That render looks pretty cool. Wish it wasn't the mkda version but the real one (mk4).
This is why I love the mk team most of the time. They listen to their fans and they try within the limitation and restrictions that they have. Also damn nice of them to release the render for free.
Now that I've said that...
I am so motherfucking pissed off right now.
I got Lex Luthor in a fucking power suit and Captain Marvel who looks like he is mentally challenged, but not Doomsday. Baraka and Jax but not Quan Chi.
Despite this genuinely nice gesture from Ed and Co which I do appreciate. I still agree with JadedReign that this is like rubbing salt in a wound.
I would rather have the render than not, but this shit should have been in the fucking game from day one instead of Captain Dickhead and Lex Luthor. Seriously what mk fan wants those instead of Quan Chi?
I love Batman comics but since DC comics fucked up my chance at more Quan Chi I am so beyond pissed right now....urge to kill rising....

I think it's pretty cool that they released this picture. Sure it's a bit of a tease, but it's cool to know that they actually had plans on going through with what they said they were going to do, as far as DLC goes.
It's also cool to know that if they were given more time to make the game, Quan Chi would have been in it, making him the only character to enter the universe past MK2 that made it to this game.

And DLC not being empty talk means there's a good chance of getting DLC for MK9

Damn it, couldn't Midway have gone bankrupt after releasing DLC? lol
Ah man, wish I could play as Quan. I'm a fan of both sorcerers, I mastered Shang Tsung, and I surely would have mastered Chi. He has that badass vibe to him that alot of characters don't.
Is there really no way to have them release DLC anymore for MKDC? WB logo is still in the game, and Midway is pretty much no more so WB would earn all the profits of DLC wouldn't they? I don't know too much about this legal stuff but they would definitely have my money if they were to release the DLC characters.

I do know a lot of legal aspects, but as far as this goes, I have no idea why they can't release him as DLC. Midway owns the rights to Quan Chi, WB owns Midway, WB has money. I don't see the problem.
Unless they are figuring that Quan Chi would be "too little, too late" seeing as they are in development of MK8 (MK9 for those of you who count MKvsDC as MK8), I don't see any other reason why they can't release him.

Harley Quinn would have been a total waste of a character. I'm glad that she'll never see the light of day.

Yeah, and since Quan Chi was actually in story mode, I guess you can say this actually happened.
I'm not sure why there are complaints on this thread. It seems like it's only common sense that getting a render is better than getting nothing at all.
With WB and MK on the same page now business wise.
It only makes sense to give us more.
The only thing keeping the fanboys riled up is Boon and his antics.
Will it be MK9 or a non canon but canon sequel to MK vs DC in the future for MK?
Time will tell.

Great
No more DLC, as i have forseen it
Now you all can bury that joke game in a graveyard or maybe sell for a little bucks.
By the way, Quan Chi looks nice.
What could be his fatalities in T Rated. Maybe the return of Neck strech...

Don't see what all the hate is about. He didn't even release the render "officially". Just something he threw out there for fans who were interested. It's not like 2 more characters could've saved this game anyway.

Quan Chi looks really great. It's such a shame he couldn't have made it into the game as one of the more obvious inclusions. I really wonder how much of MKvsDC was crippled by everything that was going on at Midway, even just from pressure to produce and release the game.
I hope they release some more stuff.
As much as the Versus game disappointed, I wonder how much any of us really expected from it. At best it was always going to be a brief distraction between instalments of the regular series. At worst, it's a curiosity that may or may not be updated in the future after all the jazz with WB is settled. (Although, Harley Quinn really strikes me as a very odd choice!).
In a strange way, hearing about what we missed out on in Vs gets me more excited for the promise of another central Mortal Kombat release. Here's hoping it's the beginning of an exciting new era for the franchise!

I've always liked Quan Chi. Cool render. Don't really care that he didn't make the game, though, since I'm still not ever gonna buy it. But that's neither here nor there. For those complaining about receiving the render, just think--it could be like Duke Nukem Forever (by that i mean, we've got a ton of screenshots/vids now, and the game has been halted due to Take Two and 3DRealms' collective bullsh*t). Be happy you got what you did, and it's only a character you're missing, not a whole game.
