Anyone here beside me looking foward to getting the Star Wars trilogy on DVD on the 21st. I've been looking foward for sometime. Everyone complains cause Lucas has changed alot from the original trilogy. I don't complain as I like some of the changes he as made. I've seen clips/pictures of the trilogy on DVD and it looks very impressive. Here are the changes from what I've read so far.........

A NEW HOPE
-Jabba looks more real this time and not "too" fake.
-Lightsabers have been redone and look very much better.
-The Han/Greedo scene now has then both shooting at the sametime.

EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
-A new battle scene on Hoth w/the Rebel ground troups and the Stormtroopers
-The emperor from the original has been replaced by Iam McDoniald(emperor/chanclor in I, II and III) and the scene w/Vader has more dialouge and the Emperor knows of Luke being Vader's son.
-Luke no longer screams as he falls from Cloud City's chute.

RETURN OF THE JEDI
-The Rancor looks very much improved
-The ending celebration now has Naboo involved and is longer.
-When Vader's helment is removed he no longer has eyebrows and the circles around his eyes are no longer there.
-Sebastain Shaw has been replaced by Hayden Christenson as Anakin's ghost...(this will get alot of SW fans attention but why not McGregor's ghost as well. A young Anakin, Yoda and an old Obi Wan????)

All in all Iam looking foward to it. Lucas did say in a commentary on Return of the Jedi why Hayden replaced Sebastain Shaw and is a spoiler for Episode III. Iam gonna get it no matter what. Just curious as to anyone else that might get it what your opinions are.

I'm looking forward to this too. To comment:

-I never really thought Jabba looked that fake, but I can live with it.
-Again, I don't think they were bad the first time around, but ok I'll take it.
-Not a big change, we all saw it in the 're-release' so no biggie.

-Hmmm I don't know about this one, but I'll have to wait and see.
-I don't like this one. I like the old Emperor, and Ian does sound like him when he wants, the old one was just cooler. Plus I had a few of his action figures
-booo @ this one. Why wouldn't he scream? I really don't understand that one bit

-Again, didn't mind it but it's ok with me.
-Boo, I really really really didn't enjoy anything about Naboo
-Boo at this one, they are trying to rewrite history now, wouldn't it have been easier to go the other way on this one?
-I don't like this one either, I would prefer the originals but ok.

Also, if they woulda took out Sir Allen Guiness and replaced him to appease people who only have seen Ep1-3, I would kill anyone involved.

As much as many of the changes kinda disturb me, I'm still getting them. Regardless of whther or not I *like* the changes or not, it's not my creation, so I have no say in the matter. George can do what he wants to it.

Fortunately, I still have my original trilogy laserdiscs for when I want to see the original versions.

I have both versions of the trilogy on Video and i didn't think Lucus did anything wrong in the addtions and tweaks for the special editions and i dont think he's done anything wrong for the Dvd's I will be getting it on release day, And as shingo has said it's his story and his film i feel he has added more to the storyline especially for ESB with the extra dialog with Vader and the Emperor.

blade-tsung :- Ian McDiarmid has always played the Emperor except for ESB so how can you say you like the other actor best he only spoke a few lines via holo communication to Vader, so it's only right that he be replaced by Ian for the ESB DVD as there is more to the scene and it wouldn't look right having a different actor do those scenes i'm suprised it wasn't changed for the 97 Editions.

Ah, I thought he played the role very similiar, I didn't realize it was because it was him in both roles. My bust.

Ditto

And of all the changes the only weird one is the editing out of Luke's scream. I don't know why, but hearing him scream just makes him more human.

Anayway, all I know is I'm going to lock myself in my room and watch them streight through once I get the boxset home.

I just got one question about the trilogy, will it have the new sceens that Lucas had filmed during Episode 3, that will be cut into the original trilogy? Cause if not it's a complete waste of money. I'd rather wait 2 years when all 6 movies are out on DVD amd he finishes touching up all the original ones. He keeps playing with the trilogy because it's not how he envisioned it. I got no problem buying all 6 moves when there completly done, and no sooner. He's just releasing them on DVD to make more money. He said that he wasn't done with touching the originals cause he plans to add more sceens, etc. So when he does finish; thats when I'll buy them.

I don't think he is going to add anything from Star Wars 3 in any of 4-6 movies.Other than the 4th disc, star wars 4-6 will be epoisde 3 free, besides that fact the dude that played Anikin in Star Wars 2 and 3 will be the ghost of Anikin at the end of Star Wars 6.

That depends on you. I don't have a VHS anymore. I use to own the trilogy in video tape, but getting them again in DVD with DD5.1 sound. Can't wait! Don't really mind the changes, au contraire, the fixed visual of the lightsaber is a good addition imo.
I was too little to see the 1st one at the theaters.

I'll probbly end up getting the DVD's, its a great series and the changes seem fitting, except the whole Luke screaming thing. But it also woulnd't surprise me if in the next couple years Lucas decides to add onto the first 3 and release them as a "completed" set of 6.

I think one things for sure, he won't be directed any more episodes after Revenge of the Sith.

That's cool, Sid Haig and Bill Mosely rule.

I met David Prowse and got his autograph at a comic show once, and I got a signed Harrison Ford picture of him as Hans Solo :)

Actually, Luke doesn't scream in the original version, only the special edition. Taking the scream out restores it to the original version.

I know that, but it just seemed like a good addition....Ehh I don't really care. A 2 second scream's absence isn't going to effect my opinion on the flicks.

I was wondering if in this one or the set o' six... if they would have three-four versions of the movie on DVD... like with the original, special edition, and dvd edition on one dvd... that would be interesting to see which version each person likes best..

The scream was added to make it look less like a suicide which is what luke atempted due to the fact he would rather die than accept Vader was his dad, Mark Hamill said it in an interview in regards to the special editions, he also said he wasn't happy about the scream being added as it took away from what was really happening, i'm glad it is removed for the DVD it's as it should be.
