AGOURA HILLS, Calif. - (Business Wire) THQ Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) and JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAKK) today announced that WWE® Legends of WrestleMania® is currently in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Joining the distinguished WWE® SmackDown®/SmackDown vs. Raw® franchise, which has shipped more than 37 million units worldwide since 2000, WWE Legends of WrestleMania is scheduled for release in March 2009 to coincide with the annual pinnacle of sports entertainment, WrestleMania® 25, in Houston, Texas.
"We have generated significant year-over-year growth in key global territories with WWE-licensed videogames, including tremendous success with the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise," said Peter Matiss, vice president, global brand management, THQ. "The development capabilities afforded by next generation hardware, combined with our established history and deep understanding of fighting videogames, allow us to leverage the strength of the WWE brand to further extend our leadership in the fighting videogame genre and bring this new property to market."
"JAKKS Pacific is pleased to introduce a new WWE videogame property to the fighting genre," said Nelo Lucich, senior vice president of interactive, JAKKS Pacific. "The WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise has captured a collective audience of WWE fans, game enthusiasts and casual players, and we are confident that WWE Legends of WrestleMania will be poised for great success."

sounds interesting. let's hope it utilizes an engine closer to no mercy then the current smackdown vs raw games.

I doubt it'll be anything like No Mercy, likely more along the lines of the Smackdown games. Unless maybe it's done like the old Raw X-Box games, or WM 21 for the original X-Box. So long as it's nothing like the Acclaim Legends games, then I'll be happy! Cause we don't want THQ to go the way of the "Acclaim" Doh-doh

Hey...i liked and own all of the Legends Of Wrestling games...
The only things that sucked about those games were
1) Less detailed graphics
2) Lack of an actual Story
3) and Bad CAW mode
Yeah...other than that, those games were fun as hell

It's sad that most wrestling shows suck balls nowadays.
Birchill's "curb stomp" sucks and will never get over. I'm annoyed that he's being given this generic character, with a horrible finisher, and he's stuck in a terrible angle. It's a waste of everybody's time. I don't understand why WWE think it's such a terrible idea to just give him back his sick ude hishigi wakigatame as a finisher and have him try to get over as a charasmatic, big, athletic, tough, sound wrestler rather than trying to get over a stupid incest angle. He's one of the few heavyweights WWE have who could get over with WWE's audience on ability alone like a Benoit or Bret Hart, but they're using him as a vehicle to over an angle, which is only going to last a couple of months, and only be moderately entertaining. If that. That's worth potentially sacrificing Paul Birchill's career (and all the money he could make WWE) for? I'll never figure out what's wrong with Vince McMahon. If he wasn't his father's son there's no way he could ever have been a successful promoter.
Also I just realised... it's funny that they're trying to pass Katie Lea and Paul Birchill off as siblings when they're calling them by different surnames.

I've actually been enjoying TNA lately. I like the fact that they finally let Jimmy Rave win a match on his own, and i'm a big fan of James storm, so to see him fighting Sting, was quite exciting.
The only match i wasn't too into was the Main even, becausee the only person i am a fan of that was in that match was Nash, and he can't do shit anymore, so it wasn't worth watching for me

But honestly I can't say much, I own LOW Showdown. The roster was just too good to pass up.

True that. It was nice to see Ultimate Warrior and Sting in the same game as Bruno Sanmartino and Killer Koalski (please excuse the spelling). Also having the old WCW announcers was a blast from my happy past

Hey, what's the "BEST" Wrestling game ever made so far?
Any new ones coming out? I'm not a huge wrestling fan but like the wrestling games a little bit that play similar to Def Jam 2.

The general consensus is that No Mercy for the N64 is the best wrestling game ever(state side anyway)
In terms of new wrestling games coming out. TNA Impact is coming out in september I believe and is made by midway. The obligatory Smackdown vs raw game will probubly be out by november. The wwe legends game I posted about is due out by wrestlemania next year (april). If you want a game that plays similar to def jam 2, you're probubly out of luck on all counts. AKI corp. the company responsible for the first two def jam games also made No Mercy, which as I said is widely regaurded as one of the best wrestling games ever. They are currently not developing any type of wrestling game for the US anyway. Do yourself a favor, find a friend who owns no mercy and play it, you won't be dissapointed.

wcw/nwo revenge and wwf no mercy. best games ever.
revenge was awesome, then when thq got the wwf licence, they made no mercy. both are sweet. but, with no mercy, you get the updated engine that revenge originally had (even tho it actually started with wcw vs nwo world tour i think)

It actually started as Virtual Pro Wrestling, which was originally intended as an All Japan Pro Wrestling game, but included wrestlers from various pro wrestling and MMA promotions in Japan. Then WCW World Tour was made, then WCW Revenge, then WWF Wrestlemania 2000, then WWF No Mercy. All used that same engine. That's why those games don't really play like WWF or WCW matches much; because the game is designed for them to play like 90's AJPW matches.wcw/nwo revenge and wwf no mercy. best games ever.

The best wrestling game ever made is King of Colosseum II, but you can't get it in the US unless you import it. The best wrestling game released in the US is definitely WWF No Mercy for N64. Probably followed by Fire Pro Wrestling Returns for PS2, which is actually 2D, but frankly pretty amazing for a 2D game, because everyone raves about the gameplay, and it's possibly the most customisable game ever. You even get 500 created character slots.

Don't expect it to happen zent, and you won't be dissapointed. They've hyped Joe too hard for too long to make him drop the title this soon. But if it's dropped to anyone anytime soon, I agree it should be Steiner.

I still can't believe that this is only Kanes Third(?) Heavyweight title reign. He held the WWF title for, what? A day? Then the WCW title once...now the ECW title...
wait..that means Big Show is no longer the only person to have done that! HA!
EDIT: Damn, only two time...never held the WCW...my bad..

Hurray I'm not the only one who has no use for Scott Steiner!

you forgot:
1) very poorly made
2) Bad controls
3) collision detection sucked ass
4) not enough new legends, pretty much the same characters in all 3 games!
but yeah, i own them as well, but mostly for collectors sake, I sure as hell didn't find them that great! now it's about time there comes a WWE sanctioned Legends game
God damn it.
I marked out BIG time when Kevin Nash walked out of Steiner's limmo. And when Steiner hit Joe with the pipe, I squealed and jumped out of my seat. Totally marked out. Of course, when the frankensteiner off the top rope came... I just came in my pants, screaming like a little girl. It was awesome.
Until of course, Joe won, and Rick Steiner and Nash didn't even get involved. That pissed me off, I really wanted Steiner to win. Damn it.
Don't really care about anything else on the PPV. I knew Kaz was going to win the thing, which was crap anyway, and LAX were going to win the tag titles.
