True, too many characters did damage the quality, I have to agree with you on that.

For the dude who said that popularity mattered then listed a bunch of rejects from MK3... you do know that only DIE HARD fans hang out and post on MKO, TRMK, Total MK and all the other sites, right? Boon knows this, so characters that haven't been in many games aren't likely to be in this thing. Look at the characters that have made the series successful by being in most of them--that's where the list will come from. (with a few exceptions, mind you)

Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are all pretty much musts from the DC side of things. Darkseid also seems like a great choice for a villain from the DC realm to be included in the game. I'd go with Nightwing over Robin, just because Nightwing sort of stands out on his own a bit more, and seems to have a darker image going for him.

Lobo is pretty fucking bad ass, so he should be included in the game. He would also not look too out of place in a MK setting. I am all for including Doomsday as a villain from Superman's franchise. Ra's al Ghul seems fitting from Batman's side of things. Bane would be good, too. Probably as a hidden character, though.

Green Arrow seems like he could fit, and Martian Manhunter and the Green Lantern are pretty iconic. Beast Boy would also sort of fit with MK's style of game.

That's 12 characters, which seems pretty fitting. The biggest problem with my list, I feel, is that it contains two characters with "Green" in their name. It might get a bit tedious. Green Arrow fits the MK world a lot more, I feel, but I think they will go with status, and although I am not an avid DC fan, or anything, Lantern feels like the more crucial add. Maybe replace him with Bane?

Mortal Kombat is actually harder to pick characters from, I think.

If there's any credence to the twenty character limit, I'd like to think those are twenty "playable" characters, with more to be unlocked.

i dont really know the DC universe that well so some of my choices im not so sure on and i feel shao kahn, kung lao, and liu kang could go either way weither their in it or not, but im willing to bet at least one of the two between kung lao and liu kang will be in it for sure if not both are.

The 16 '?' Boxes dont necessarily represent characters. The 'Eye of the storm' last time with the MKA site revealed artwork, bios, gameplay videos, interviews etc. Im guessing thats probably what this one will do. but it could be characters also, I just think its gonna be mroe of a new outlet.

But I'll go with 16 for now.

Around 20 characters is not unheard of in crossover games, in-fact, it is the norm until sequels come out. That being said, I'll still be pissed if this game has less than 30 characters.

Fair points, but not really an undermining argument for a contemporary game.

Somewhere along the line fans have been soured by excuses for gameplay issues, and have settled for a meagre twenty characters per game. With contemporary techniques creating character models a lot quicker, and the hardware being at a far greater capacity, there's no reason to expect restrictions of the past.

I think today's audiences should at least be expecting twenty-four to thirty immediately playable characters, with bonuses. Bonuses that needn't be palatte swaps with the technology involved.

I would also point to MK:DA's oh-so-bolstered 21 characters and 2 skin-swap secret characters. I wouldn't put it past them to pull the same crap again.

And when its revealed that its less than 32 characters everyone will bitch becasue they worked themselves up over false information
