Not sure about bosses to be honest. I'm thinking those 16 ? boxes are going to reveal the characters. Don't know if any new characters from MK will be introduced however; Boon said he would make new ones for next game, but considering the revelations from the past few days, I don't think he was being honest. Also don't know if you could introduce a new character into a crossover game like this either.

I'm thinkin like.. 9 each. All with their own fatalities and stuff so they don't have to do too much work.. and can work on quality over quantity.
