There needs to be an introduction video to the new game, right? Imagine if it is MK VS DC. What would the storyline be???

Let's see from what we know till today.

MK8 will run at unreal engine 3. It will be dark, girddy and dirty.
It will have no jokes. It is going to be a serious MK. We are doing something totally unexpected.

The above 2 lines are not rumors are true. Let's see the 2 most popular rumors:

Rumor 1 -> MK8 is called MK vs DC Universe and it is a versus game, it's rated teen and has no fatalities. DC universe is a universe of rediculous characters like superman , batman , flash etc.
They get rid of fatalities? Then why the words finsh her is in the crossword?
But ok let's say that they ged rid of them like they get rid of uppercut and pits in Deadly alliance.
The part we are doing something totally unexpected fits. BUT because even the tile of this game IS NOT SERIOUS. The rumor is rejected.


Rumor 2-> There will be two MK games this year. One called MK VS DC Universe and another called MK: "something" and it has fatalities gore etc. The first is for Wii and the second for PS3 and XBOX360.
Two games? The totally unexpected fits. Wii is in the croosword at noob.com two times. The wii cannot run unreal engine 3. It can only run unreal engine 2.5. The Wii hasn't the power of PS3 and Xbox360. Midway needs money. Wii is the best selling console today. All the clues fit. It is possible to be true.

If rumor 2 is true all kind of fans will be happy. No need to worry.

Yes what you are saying is true, I just mentioned Senario rumor #2 on IRC like 4 hours ago. You see, if there is a game on the Wii, it will NOT use the unreal 3 engine. Which means there is only one possiblity left, [Since Ed Boon said they will use the Unreal 3 engine] and that is a different game for the PS3 and 360. Suddenly my hopes are up. See this is why people need to relax.

Sorry, but to me, DC is NOT what I expected for "dark and gritty". Nore does it remotely fit in with the MK universe. Absolutely insane.
My last hope is, MAYBE it will be a balanced and fun game.
But given the so called "Superman Curse" (every game with superman in it has BOMBED, not counting the atari one which was actually pretty decent for the time), among other things, I highly doubt it.

First off man, the superman games alone are made by a totally different company and are always rushed and all of those games are bad.

Just because Supes might be in MK means MK 8 will suck automatically? A bit presumpturous don't you think? not to mention nobody here has even played, or seen the game in action yet.

Secondly, Superman HAS WEAKNESSES. He's very vulnerable to Magic(which MK has a lot of) and of course green Kryptonite...

He does outmatch a lot of MK characters, but not all....


Besides, this is all mere rumors for the time being. Wait until Midway confirms something.

P.S. a lot of fans have this made up "rule" that if DC is involved there will be no blood, ha, ha guess you guys haven't read much Batman and Superman over the years....believe me they can get dark, violent and nasty at times. In one comic Batman had his back snapped and of course who the hell doesn't know by now about Superman and Doomsday? Exactly....

MK8 should it be a crossover can easily still have darkness, violence with DC characters. I mean it's DC comics, awesome characters, powers that are interesting.

If this is true then it's really no different in concept than X-Men vs. Street Fighter and the later sequels borne of that.

The thing is, that event made a bit more sense because Capcom was already making Marvel games. This MK Vs. DC thing sort of came out of thin air.

Plot wise, it's also not very hard considering how both the MK and DC universes are constructed. Parallel universes aren't exactly an alien concept.

I would not mind the two MK approach at all.

MK vs. DC would allow them to keep all of the classic MK characters in games.

MK8 would have maybe 5 returning characters and all new ones.

Yeah but Tony, those versus games came out what, ten, twelve years ago? Why would Midway want to rehash AND copy an old idea from a competing company? That's not taking MK in a "new direction" so much as it would be selling out and going in a very old direction and one that is completely unoriginal at that.

Anyone can say what they will about the MK team, but they are ORIGINAL. They always try new things. Blood, fatalities, secret characters, stage fatalities, the run button, prematch codes, multi-tiered arenas, weapons to pick up, drop, throw, 3 fighting styles, the krypt, air juggling etc etc etc. ALL MK original ideas.

People really think they'd leave originality behind to blatantly be copying off of a franchise that was once their chief rival? For that reason alone, I don't see this happening.

None of what is being said in these rumors match what Ed Boon himself has said, other than the fact that it would be "totally unexpected." Well yeah, sure, it would also be unexpected if the next MK game were MK vs Slipknot vs the Seven Dwarves vs the Chicago Blackhawks vs Thomas Edison.

I could see it now. Dopey gets decapitated by a slash from Patrick Kane. In the next match, Kane's skin is screamed off by Corey Taylor. That would be "totally unexpected" right?

This whole rumor is illogical and backed up by nothing that resembles hard evidence or publicly known facts. Just a bunch of people saying that they know people in Midway. I mean, you've been here for a long time. Don't you remember back on MK5.org when people would come on and do the exact same thing?

I remember when people were convinced that Hsu Hao was Shao Khan because someone photoshopped the word "Khan" over Hsu Hao's name in a picture before his name was announced.

Maybe this rumor has grown alot, but I dunno, it just smells funny. It really seems to me like someone just took the Marvel vs SF idea, took the next most popular comic company and slapped it together with MK to create a rumor.

Personally? If DC has anything to do with the next MK, I'm guessing that it'll be a Soul Calibur bonus character type thing where the PS3 gets Batman, The 360 gets Superman and the Wii gets Aquaman (

Ed Boon said that the MK series is going in a new direction with a new story and that we'd probably never hear from many of the old characters ever again. Sooo what? MK vs DC would feature all new MK characters? What would be the draw in that? Oooh, look at Green Lantern fight...some dude. It wouldn't even be MK.

Cannon I cannot see this working. Gameplay I cannot see this working. Marvel would have really been a better choice, but that is opinion.
Of course, nothing is confirmed, but its darn close. And since it is close, I am going to make a prediction: It will probably bomb.

But for now, that is my prediction, and I am sticking to it. And my predictions concerning ALL of these games have been pretty close to accurate over the years.
Besides, I didnt say Superman in it would be the ONLY thing that would make it bomb, I said OTHER things will too. It is a big factor, because simply put, Superman is an IMMENSELY powerful character, and having him in a video game is difficult to pull off, to say the least. A common misconception!

Personally, I think the release of 2 games is probably a good guess. MKA wouldn't have taken much effort seeing its just a copy and paste job, and then they had pretty much 2 years... I think they would have had enough time to get 2 games out.

I think something similar to the SC idea is where they might go - the serious fighting game on 360 and PS3, and a non-canon, adventure game on Wii. The Wii game would be the vs. DC one, and it won't be canon, just something to keep the Wii owners who can't support the Unreal Engine happy. Thats my guess..

MKO is a ****ing joke of anauthority on MK. Its the SRK.com of the world of MK (that is NOT a compliment)

Since their only update in September was about the prospect of a Versus game, it seems fair to draw that much of a conclusion. I'm still very sceptical about DC involving themselves in the MK games.

Got to say, I'm pretty surprised that this is how the slate is being wiped clean to move the franchise forward. It will be interesting to get confirmation on exactly what franchise MK is meeting to really draw a better conclusion of what this means for the future of the franchise.

If it's a series Midway own, then the opportunity for this to actually have weight in the developing canon of the MK story might be a nice spin on variety. Of course, the flipside would be a licensed property not likely to be referenced in the future, reducing one of MK's greatest strengths: the story.

Secondly, MK and DC are two franchises that have YET to do any kind of crossover with characters and magical, godly powers. SF did it, SC did it, Marvel did it, SSBB did it. Why can't MK do it? Honestly, at this point I'll just say this. You'd best to give up on MK all together because as far as I've seen on here you've always gone out of your way to rip MK for some reason despite how silly or trivial as a lot of fans on here have....the games not even out yet and people already have it as "a bad game" so amusing really.

Besides, DC hasn't really ever had a huge fighting game(if any at all that I can remember) that stood out. So, in that sense I think it's a good move with both franchises. MK doing something new LIKE they said they would and DC finally getting involved in a fighting game that will get lots of attention.
