Well, the reasons for me loving it aren't strange, considering I had listed them a few days ago, dude.

As I said, I loved the graphics, I loved the speed, I loved the engine, I loved the characters, I loved Goro.

I suppose I'm one of those people who doesn't mind repetition as long as something I previously enjoyed is being repeated. I mean, why fix what isn't broken? I liked Sonya as my fav character in MK1 and MK3, and yes, she WAS the same appearance-wise and fighting-wise, but truth is that it didn't matter. Granted this game didn't offer anything new, but then again, I didn't WANT anything new since I loved MK4's predecessors (minus UMK3 and MKT - those engines sucked).

The closest I can compare MK 1/2/3 and MK4 to are the similarities between RE1 on the Playstation and RE1 on the Gamecube. To anyone who played these two games, you know what I'm talking about. The latter has nothing new to add to the former in regards to the characters, the plot, the monsters, or the engine. But the latter is bigger, prettier and just better than the former. That's how MK4 works.

It sound slike you like it partially because it has the simplistic gameplay, which is a major stale note for a lot of the players on this board since so many of us like fighters for their gameplay.

So there is a fundamental difference in what you like versus what someone like me likes so it'll just keep going back and fourth until someone closes this thread.
Why because we can!!!

MK4's system is a faster, sloppy, broken, dumbed down, less complex, less involved, less expansive, and more limited version of UMK3.

You like destruction derby over nascar.

It's fun...with good competition. I liked Tanya, Reiko, and Fujin as new characters.

As for the game itself...it is the worst MK game ever made (not counting MKSF), even though it can be fun. The gameplay is horribly shallow, as every character has the same basic combos. All of the uppercuts, hk's, etc are exactly the same.

In previous MK games, even though the basic moveset is the same, they were drastically different. Take a look at how the MK2 ninja uppercut sucks and Liu/Kung's uppercut can hit jumpers with ease. MK2 Kit/Mil's sweep was slower, but had more range. MK2 Ninja roundhouse's are the best in the game...you get my point.

MK4 has the EXACT same moves with the EXACT same properties for EVERY character.

But it can be fun...with good competition.

MK4 has some decent features though. there are plenty of great costumes and the introduction of weapons were nice. Yea the combo system does suck with no differentiation between characters bt the fatalities are nice and the endings are the best in the franchise.

"But the fatalities were awesome!"

Means the games still sucked hard.

I personally liked MK4 even though it is by no means the best Mortal Kombat.

One reason people dislike MK4 was every character had the same combos. So if you mastered one character, you mastered them all. Not much skill required, shallow gameplay depth, and not a lot of replay value. Bear in mind, this was supposed to be Mortal Kombat's big comeback and step into the 3D generation. But it was pretty much the same engine, only prettied up in semi-3D graphics, so many were disappointed by MK's inability to evolve.

The character was roster was half-assed at best. While I like characters such as Reiko and Tanya, I will admit they are not shining examples of MK's creativity. Recycled moves along with vague and underdeveloped stories didn't endear the new characters to players. Basically, many characters just screamed half-assed.

Speaking of story, it was quite lackluster despite some nice build up in MK: Mythologies (which wasn't the greatest game either). Kai was Liu Kang's friend. That's it. Fujin was the Wind God and Raiden's buddy. That's it. Reiko was some guy from the Netherealm. Then they made a bad idea worse by throwing in that stupid Shao Kahn mask thing. Tanya was one of the few who had some personality, but she's admiteddly not that original. Shinnok had a good story, but his credibility was shot when they made him a poor man's Shang Tsung. And Jarek....Kano-lite. 'nuff said. Quan Chi's the only one who managed to stand out.
Storylines for returning characters weren't so hot either. Scorpion is suddenly after Sub-Zero again even though we were led to believe in MK2 and 3 that he was protecting Sub-Zero now. Jax was backing up Sonya....again. Johhny Cage was back from dead...again. Sonya's trying to save the world and catch some guy....again. Kitana's trying to save Edenia...that's it. Not a whole lot going.

The story wasn't all bad...there was the occasional spark of creativity here and there but it was for the most part MK's weakest storyline effort. That, a very shallow fighting engine, and just a general half-assed approach is why many fans hate MK4.

Man so thats why oh yeah if anyone is wonderin why im saying this it's because ive never played MK4 in my life.
