Hi there!
I have a question to you all:
Why do so much people say, that MK4 sucks?
It is my favourite MK Game, and i never played better and stronger, than in this one.We never had more fun with a fighting game. Our combos in MK4 were amazing.I love this game.
So why do people say it sucks?

fun to play and nothing else....all the characters have the same combo, you can do the combo larger but it's blockable,so the gameplay isn't deep at all.

I wish that Midway brings a Version of MK4 to XBOX. I would love to play it online!

Generic motion captures reused and simplistic gameplay with no depth. It just ends up being a casual game and a lot of people are looking for something more serious.

I agree you.I mean, you should not only live in the past, but the new games are not much typical MK for me.They are very good games, but i miss the typical felling, that MK brings to me.Shaolin monks will not be a typical MK Game, but if i look at the videos i think it will have the "Feeling" i am talking about.
Sorry for my bad english!!

Yes, the PS2 Version is better, especially because of the PS Pad.I also like the great ending movies.Nothing importend for the gameplay, but fun and interresting.Thats one of the things i am missing in DA and Deception. The ending pictures suck.Since MK Gold is out i play this with a PS Pad one the Dreamcast, perfect! My biggest wish is to play MK4 online, i can not understand why they did not bring out a compilation of MK1-MK4 on consoles to play online. That would be great!!!

Excuse me, the PS1 Version of course!!!

I agree. I love MK4. In fact, it's the best fighting game ever, period.
I love the graphics, love the moves, love how the speed of the game is ideal, not too fast, not too slow. Beautiful.
In addition, the weapons are cool, and the underboss? Goro kicks major @$$. MK4 Goro is the best, meanest, coolest, most fun monster to fight against.
Granted I haven't played against or as Goro in MK6 on the GC yet, but then again, I didn't enjoy the game engine to MK5. And as great as the classic three MK games were (love MK1 Goro, Kintaro and Motaro, though enjoyed the Shokanites more than the Centaur), but MK4 Goro is the ultimate Big Bad. He would slap Moloch upside the head like no one's business :)

was real run in the arcade, just use the hop kick uppercut glitch, for 45% damage everytime.

I did not really like MK4 because it was focsed on Mythologies, which I did not play... so I did not get like 1/2 the stuff... and the characters seemed crappy... and not enough fan favs.
Now it really grew on me... I REALLY enjoy playing it... the gampelays is pretty good...
What I don't get is why people hate MKDA/D....
I think they made the gameplay REALLY fun in Deadly alliance... and it was a pretty good way to follow the history.... it only lacked more finishers and stage interaction... vissually it was AWSOME!!! I LOVED DA graphics... and the character's looks where VERY good work...
My only problem where the new characters... I disliked most of them

MKDA/D had broken gameplay. The best and easiest way to win was to be cheap and use some of the easily exploitable gameplay flaws that the MK team never bothered to remove. Its fine for casual play but anything more than that's not going to happen.

hopkick uppercut, hopkickuppercut, hop kick uppercut...... max damage. alls u needed.
I enjoyed MK4 immensly, with the movie-endings and smooth fighting controls. As for depth? i'm not a nit-picky, if it's casual, then dag-gonnit, i like a casual fighting game...although i do have to admit, they can't use that Three-style fighting system much longer, press certian buttons..and watch the character doll it out, unless the other player sees it coming..sidesteps..and kicks you off a cliff..very annoying..

Or if the other player gets you in a containment, sidesteps, containment, sidesteps, containment, sidesteps, etc, etc, etc

ehhee... I did NOT like a lot of MK3 characters.... like Kabal, Nightwolf, Stryker... I always hated them... I thought they where pretty cheesy...
I think that beyond the cheesiness of MK4 characters there's the act that they are TOO close to existing characters... Tanya=Kitana, Kai=Liu Kang/Kung Lao, Reiko=Noob/other ninjas, Fujin=Rayden, Jarek=Kano, Shinnok=Shang Tsung
Some new characters did really grow on me... like tanya, or Li mei.... and Kenshi is SLIGHTLY grownig on me.. and I actually liked Kira... even tho she is replacement/clone

I personally liked MK4 even though it is by no means the best Mortal Kombat.
One reason people dislike MK4 was every character had the same combos. So if you mastered one character, you mastered them all. Not much skill required, shallow gameplay depth, and not a lot of replay value. Bear in mind, this was supposed to be Mortal Kombat's big comeback and step into the 3D generation. But it was pretty much the same engine, only prettied up in semi-3D graphics, so many were disappointed by MK's inability to evolve.
The character was roster was half-assed at best. While I like characters such as Reiko and Tanya, I will admit they are not shining examples of MK's creativity. Recycled moves along with vague and underdeveloped stories didn't endear the new characters to players. Basically, many characters just screamed half-assed.
Speaking of story, it was quite lackluster despite some nice build up in MK: Mythologies (which wasn't the greatest game either). Kai was Liu Kang's friend. That's it. Fujin was the Wind God and Raiden's buddy. That's it. Reiko was some guy from the Netherealm. Then they made a bad idea worse by throwing in that stupid Shao Kahn mask thing. Tanya was one of the few who had some personality, but she's admiteddly not that original. Shinnok had a good story, but his credibility was shot when they made him a poor man's Shang Tsung. And Jarek....Kano-lite. 'nuff said. Quan Chi's the only one who managed to stand out.
Storylines for returning characters weren't so hot either. Scorpion is suddenly after Sub-Zero again even though we were led to believe in MK2 and 3 that he was protecting Sub-Zero now. Jax was backing up Sonya....again. Johhny Cage was back from dead...again. Sonya's trying to save the world and catch some guy....again. Kitana's trying to save Edenia...that's it. Not a whole lot going.
The story wasn't all bad...there was the occasional spark of creativity here and there but it was for the most part MK's weakest storyline effort. That, a very shallow fighting engine, and just a general half-assed approach is why many fans hate MK4.
