Yeah, you could have the creators of the game tell the person how to really say the name, and they will still disagree as if they created the names and the real game creators didn't. Lol, I hate it when people think they are constantly correct about everything.

How can you mispronounce it when.

1. You pick that character on the select screen and it says his / her name.

Because some people are too stubborn to believe that they might be wrong in pronouncing a name and that the game is always right.

i Totally Agree Saibot, I had a Friend who Thought Kabal was "Cable" and he said "IT SAYS CABLE ON MY GENESIS!" so i said "GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND GO PLAY THE SUPER NINTENDO VERSION!" then "I Don't Have a Super" Then i Said "get a Few Bucks and go Play the Arcade Version" he said he did awhile later still saying CABLE.. jebus... oh yeah i also hard someone call Kano "Can-Oh" before ill sum up a list

Cable = Kabal
Can-Oh = Kano
Barooka = Baraka (from the same Dumbass who Thought Kabal was Cable)

Katana = Kitana (such a Small Mistake.. HOW CAN ANYONE ACREW THAT UP ?! same with Baraka)

Scorpian = Scorpion (actually im not sure if these guys said it like that but ive seen people Spell it like that, one too many people...)

Rehecko = Reiko

I don't see how any idiot can mispronounce a name if the MK Announcer says them all for you.

I'm sorry I didn't get to this thread sooner, lol.

I always was disturbed by the mispronounciations, but it proved that most of these kids played the Genesis versions only and not the arcade or SNES where they could actually hear the names said. Poor guys.

Yes "our" village idiot was none other than Will Ryan. I hope he reads this sometime and realizes that he was a tard.

No-ob Suhbot, Shang Tuh-sung, Cable...I think he even said "My-layna" instead of Mileena. There's so many other mistakes that others make, people actually prouncing Kitana as Katana, there is a distinct difference in the sound between an I and an A. Hell even the Prophet from shoryuken.com pronounces some names funny, like the famous kuhng layo, and shang suhng, he might just do it on purpose though, however he pronounces "shoryuken" as shurooken, it's actually shor-you-ken, and Ryu as "Rye'-you", which has been debated, but every game that actually says "Ryu" almost says "You" without even pronouncing the R, Kyo as "Kai-oh", instead of Kee-yo' I yell at him all the time lol. When I use to play SSF2T, I thought that the game was saying things like "You...vs...Cammy...England". There was a kid Bill who lived on my block who insisted Guile was pronounced "Gully" and he actually threatended to fight me and my friend Steve because of it. What Quirk was talking about with "Raiden" is that, the way the actual word is pronounced is "Rye'den" but in the MK games they said "Ray-den", it really doesn't matter since Raiden is technically not an asian man and the way the letters and "ai" sound when next to eachother don't apply, since in the word "raid" in English is prounced "rayed" not "ryed". He's a thunder God for gods' sakes, he can pronounce it however he wants.

Let's see, I remember hearing Sindle, Jack (from little kids), Seerix, Buh-reah'-kuh, Shayo Kahn, even Shokan for Shao Kahn, and none of these can be attributed to people's accents because I know for a fact they don't pronounce other words in this manner. Oh another good one "Animalality"...lol horrible. "Do his Animalality!" "I can't" "Oh what you don't know it or something?" "No you would have to win a round in order for me to do one" "Oh..." AH lots of typing.

I think the problem was, in many arcades there are so many machines going on at once you cannot hear the announcer when you are playing MK. So if it was still brand new in the arcades then you could just read the names, and reach your own conclusion on how to pronounce it.

Kombat, that is a very good possibility, when people were playing 1 on 1 in MK3 when it came out, I would stand very close to the speakers and try and isolate just the music because I thought it was cool, and I loved the music in MK1 and MK2, so I figured this was going to be cool as well, MK3 has a few of my all time top favorite tracks, the Pit 3, the Soul Chamber, and that theme when the game starts that has an instrument that sounds like a "sitar" when you see the skulls and skeletons in purple in UMK3, I call it "The Dead" cause there's a moaining that sounds like dying in the bg. I also liked the Bank, the Graveyard , the Subway and the Temple a lot as well.

I was obsessive, and still am, what can I say it's the way things are.

I always liked how Kahn wouldn't annouce the winner in a match with him in MK II. Why did they forget that for the rest of the series?

And why is Quan Chi annoucing MK4 when Shinnok was boss?well.

Maybe they just liked Quan Chi's voice better than Shinnok's as an announcer. Can you imagine hearing Shinnok's voice saying "Reptile Wins"? I prefer Quan Chi's because it sounds a lot darker.

Well, living in Israel, I encountered lots of mispronounciations.

For example:

Mortal Kombat - mortel compact
Mileena - Milana
Kano - kaa-no
Liu kang - louis kang (actually, in israel he was never refered to as liu kang, but as "bruce lee". go figure.)

That does make some good sense ]ombat. I remember when I was in arcades I usually didn't hear anything from the machine.

Our idiots were still pretty idiotic though, since our machine was in a West Coast Video with like 2 machines around it. Street Fighter Alpha, and Area 51 I believe. Meeeeeeeeeemories.

I still remember hunting down every penny in my house, riding to West Coast, and playing that arcade machine. That was like 7 years ago or something, and I remember it like it was yesterday. And MK2KungBroken was there. I guess we're both pretty obsessive.

P.S. We made MK theme musics in MarioPaint, and he made his own copy of the Deadpool from MK2 and it looked better then Sega's, lol. Obsession.

Guile is prolly the most mispronounced never I've ever heard. I've heard them all from 'Kwiele' to something like 'Gurl'.
Every time somebody would talk about Mister Bison I wanted to smack 'em upside the head. COME ON!!! MISTER BISON!?!?!

I also remeber that there a series of round cap-like things based on the Street Fighter series released here in Holland, one of them misprinted 'Zangief' as 'Bangief' (don't ask how) and some kids actually thought that it was his real name.

Memories...

Wasn't Sagat's name mispronounced everywhere? In the live action movie, in SF2 the animated movie, they all emphasized the wrong syllable.

Bob Saget. lol how about Blank-uh, Veh-guh, people even going out of their way to say "Thunder-Hawk", I always found that amazing, like say "Edmond Honda" or just a little worse than saying "Ryu Hoshi" or "Ken Masters". Fee Long, Fye Long, I remember hearing people say Mr. Bison as well. Some character names I mispronounce on purpose when around friends, like Bison, I make it sound french for some unknown reason and call him "Bee-zawn", can't think of any others at the moment, but I'm sure there's kids who have called Mai from SNK "May". There, I'll make one up, "May Sherunaway" instead of Mai Shiranui. There's a website also that has an enormous list of the misinterpretations of the special moves, my entire life I've known what the moves are, and what they sound like because I always read the booklets and listened, but the things people come up with Shoryuken, Haduoken, and Tatsumakisenpukyaku are amazing.
