How exactly was MK:Deadly Alliance broken? and why the hell is drahmin considered high tier?

Well, the Kenshi combo I liked doing was in Tai Chi: TK-Slam...B + 1...TK-Slam..B + 1...TK Slam...3...TK Toss which does 8 hits for 46% damage. However, I just now found something very interesting while practicing with Kenshi using attack 3 in Tai Chi. Try doing 3 then quickly do the TK-Slam then do another hit and let the opponent fall on the ground and read the hits and damage. It actually indicates that it's a 3 hit combo so somehow, 3, when done normally, actually allows for an interesting juggle starter, not that the move itself launches or anything but it counts in the hits and damage. Try doing 3 then the combo I listed...It actually does 9 hits for 50% damage!
Just imagine the possibilities.
I think this is what Konqrr was referring to. Btw, to Konqrr: great to have you here on the thread and all. I'd like to see more of your insights here as well.
Anyway, interesting observation on Kenpo B + 4, nukesgoboom. I didn't know that. Same goes for the height thing. I guess Quan Chi really is 6'7".
400% damage for Drahmin's one hit strikes in Iron Club??? wtf??
Can you fill me in more on that?
Cool thread. I see you posted it at MKAus as well. I think that's where I remember you from. No wonder your name had some reminiscene. I'm Gyokko, one of the moderators over at MKAus.

yeah i love MKAus, its the only site ive ever been to that had the mortal kombat deception music and deadly alliance music, so when i found that i just put it in my favorites and when i have something big i post it there as well. wow so your Gyokko huh? sweet! remember my shitty quality li mei video? hah, you said 'yeah the quality isnt THAT great'... hehe you can be honest like that about my shitty telecine combo vids :oP
ok so this kenshi combo, basically what it boils down to, is this. your saying that 3 in tai chi gives a free tele slam? is that correct? now all of us here know that deadly alliance's combo damage counter is totally screwed, coupled with the motionless opponnent in practice mode, you might see some thngs that, uh, may not work in a real fight.
heres my point. after you hit them with 3 in tai chi, and you immediatly teleslam, you can hit them in practice mode, but if a real flesh and blood player holds block, they might be able to block the teleslam. im not entirely sure. perhaps its not blockable, so the 3 in tai chi really does give a free tele slam.
hey, for that matter, why just use 3, why not use 2,2,2,3? in fact, thats an even better idea, because it adds more physical damage which is enhanced by the power up, and it has a 'push back' property with the ending 3 (different than if you had just pushed 3 alone).
well i tried both ways and this is what i got:
tai chi
3,teleslam,b+2,teleslam,b+2,cs,teleslam,1,2=55%
2,2,2,3,teleslam,b+2,teleslam,b+2,cs,teleslam,1,2=48%
what the hell? the damage went DOWN for me. am i doing exactly what you did? type out the exact combo and ill cap it.
sonya's b+4 in kenpo can actually juggle, yes, but you cant get much damage out of it, and it easy to block, so i guess its not that amazing, but still i didnt know it was a launcher either. you can only get about 30% damage (b+4,4,kiss,powerup,1,1,cs,4,cs)
i think drahmins power up is just as powerful as nitaras powerup. i mean take a look at this:
iron club:b+4, if you look at the heatlh bar, it does about 10% damage. if you hit them 10 times the life bar replenishes.
now, power up, and use b+4. the damage for that 1 strike is literally 3.5x the damage. it now seems to do 35%, althogh no actual damage counter is displayed.
so maybe not 400% but definitly 350%.
yes, the taller the character, the less vulnerable they are to wall combos. raiden is the tallest, then jax, then quan chi. there is no height listed for drahmin but he is tall as well since you cant roll him. nitara has no height listed but she can be rolled against the wall with constant attacks. pretty much, anyone 6' or under is going to get rolled against the wall with wall combos.
look at it this way. reptile and johnny are 6' and you can use wall combos against them, but hsu hao and kenshi are just 1'' taller at 6'1'' and they cannot be rolled against the wall, they will be able to block at some point. just something to think about.
thats what makes chop hsuy so great, hes tall enough to avoid wall combos, and he has a reversal, i think he has the most damage gaurenteed after a leg catch reversal than anyone else, but i may be wrong, we will have to look into that. (maybe quan chi? i know its not sonya and i doubt its shang tsung. ill have to look into it later.)

Lol, yep, I'm Gyokko, alright. I remember the Li Mei vid. The quality isn't that great, but at least I can see the video well enough so that's good enough for me.
I did try 3 then TK Slam against the CPU and it's a bit tough but possible if done right. It's like it has to be both quick AND smooth the way you do it. It's hard for me to explain. It's just one of those things you have to feel when actually doing it to understand. 2, 2, 2, 3 didn't work for me so I just stuck with 3 only.
I don't quite understand those combos, because I don't know how you could've gotten to Katana like that. I think you're forgetting to put CS in part of the combo. I just kept in Tai Chi in the combo that I did. It went like this.
3..TK Slam...B + 1...TK Slam...B + 1...TK Slam...3 (or B + 2)...TK Toss which did 9 hits for 50% damage. I think with the Neijin, it's 57%, but I'm not completely sure.
Noted about the Sonya stuff.
About Drahmin, I thought you meant to say he did 400% damage with one hit. That's why I was so shocked, lol!! If he was really THAT powerful, that'd be some fucked up shit. But yeah, his Neijin is good. I guess it might rival the boost of Nitara's Neijin if he had some long, preset combos, but his Neijin is good nonetheless.
Once again, very interesting stuff about the height. I'm glad at least something height related was actually incorporated into gameplay. If they can actually make the characters truly look differently with the heights and all, that'd be great.
About the leg catch reversal thing, it's best to do with Back Breaker with Hsu Hao. With Quan Chi, you should probably just use his Front Ball Kick. With Sonya, I like to use 4, 4. I think maybe Shang can get the most damage out of his reversal as I can do 2...2..1, 1, 1, CS from it and get like 29% damage.

if your worried about that kenshi combo, to change styles fast enough, simply do one CS RIGHT after you do the second attack in tai chi, and i see youve typed 'b+1' but im pretty sure you mean 'b+2' as the b+1 is actually a launcher and might end the combo earlier or do less damage, again im pretty sure you mean b+2, thats what i used.
just do
tslam,b+2,tslam,b+2,CS(important),tslam,cs,1,2
thats how i managed to get into katana so quickly.
also like i stated earlier, the 4 in tai chi actually does good damage, i did the same combo above with 4 instead of b+2 and i got 56% no power up.
however, when i gut stabbed them, they sank into the ground a little so im not sure if that is blockable or not.
is it possible to keep spearing someone with scorpion? like, spear, sidestep, spear, is that possible? i heard it was possible in deception.
i was thinking about connecting with 4,1,1,3 in katana with kenshi after the 3 teleslams but im not sure its possible, but maybe it is? we gotta try that it might be some more damage for him, heh i didnt even consider it.
when you say shang tsung has 29% damage gaurunteed after a reversal, you mean the LEG catch right? if thats the case, then shang tsung has the most damage after a leg reversal, but if you mean only the arm, then its still hsu hao i believe. so did you mean leg or arm? (if you mean leg, arm is also included, because anything you can do with a leg can also be used with an arm catch)
just do
tslam,b+2,tslam,b+2,CS(important),tslam,cs,1,2

that works.. nice 55 with B+2... never seen that.

Oh, ok. I understand now about when to do the CS stuff. I actually meant B + 1, because I'm talking about a different combo, one that ends with the TK Toss. I see what you're saying about 4, but it's hard for me to pull off at times so I just stick with B + 2 or 3. You tried doing your combo starting with 3 already, right? If so, how much did you get?
I don't think it's possible to keep spearing with Scorpion through sidestepping. In MKD, Shujinko has an infinite combo that involves just the spear and the freeze which you do one then the other and repeat over and over til the opponent is beaten. It takes a long time since the Spear does 4% damage.
The 4, 1, 1, 3 won't work after the 3 teleslams. Maybe if MKDA had MKD's juggle system, it would've probably worked.
When it comes to Shang Tsung, yes, I'm referring to the leg catch.

hey check hows it going man? thanks for your kind words, ill take the time and say that im a huge fan of your ~135% li mei combo from deception, pure genius man i loved it. also your sindel ~102% combo was a pleasure to watch, and your shujinko ~114% was great, too bad they nerfed the flip kick for him so i cant do it in gamecube. also your kenshi 90 was great!
Sub-Zero_7th, your right about shang tsung, i guess his 29% is the highest gaurenteed damage after a leg reversal. i was thinking maybe its kano's 22%, but i think your right about shang tsung. also he can use his life steal special move while the enemy is in the air, which i think is impressive, they cannot avoid it while they are in the air. again i think his fireballs are worthless, i mean, why do you need 3 fucking fireballs that do nearly the same thing and same damage? they can block the 3d fire and the straight fireball just the same right? i dont see the point. maybe they cant duck the 3d fire? not sure.
i wanted to mention something about sub zero's combo in deadly alliance, you posted your 41% which was in dragon: power up,cs,cs,1,2,b+2,b+2,cs,1,2,cs=41%.
i think that if you do the same thing, but instead of a second b+2 in shotokan, just cs prematurely and do the d+2 in dragon, it does SLIGHTLY more damage, and when i say slightly, less than 1%. you really have to look at the life bar and you can see it does a LTTILE more. you get the same % damage in the game counter, but if you look VERY closely, its actually more.
so try this.
dragon:
power up,cs,cs,1,2,b+2,cs,d+2,1,2,cs=41.4%
also i wanted to mention something about heads of some of the character models, now i only have deadly alliance for gamecube, but sometimes when the opponnent jumps over me, or at the end of the round when my player is looking down at the ground at the body of the opponnent, thier hair will 'clip over' and will look very wierd.
the best example of this is with frost, if you have someone jump over her, her hair goes crazy in a smooshed up way. also, if you win a fight, usually against someone short, and they fall down on the ground with thier hands on thier face, etc, and she looks down at thier face, her hair will clip again and look like a waterfall or something, its looks wierd and lame, im sure you have noticed this, but im not sure if its a glitch just with the gamecube, (gamecube uses an ATI video card, and i think ps2 and xbox use a nvidia based card) but youll have to tell me, have you ever seen this before?
lastly something strange with mavado, if you pop them up with b+2 in long fist, then switch quickly to hooksword, and use f+4, they will go flying and then land in mid air, face down, which is stupid BUT, if you get them to land close enough to the wall, can you walk in and juggle them? maybe not with mavado, but i know you can do this with frost.
for example, take frost in practice mode with li mei, have frost push li mei against the wall and then jump over her, so that frost is against the wall. use U+2 in tong bei, then immedialy turn around and CS to yuan yang and use 4,4,1,1,cs,1,1,1 and you can actually get it to connect half the time, the damage isnt great though and sometimes li mei will stand up. this will never work on characters taller than 6'1''.
anyway, your sure that shang tsungs 29% connects after a leg reversal? just wanna make sure because that seems way too huge for a leg catch. the next highest leg catch is kano with 22%, 7% seems to be alot of difference at that level of damage.

Yes, Shang's 29% for the leg grab is definitely the highest one. Yeah, his fireballs suck. I don't really use his specials that much.
As for Sub-Zero, yeah, I remember having D + 2 in Dragon instead. *sighs* I wish D + 2 in Dragon stayed the same in MKD, but nooooo...they have to make it a worthless move...Anyway, I didn't know about that slightly more damage thing though. Good stuff, man.
I didn't know about the hair or the Mavado stuff.

definitely, the d+2 in dragon in deception is literally the worst uppercut in the game, it has very short range AND only does a measely 8 damage? how whack is that? AND you cant juggle with it, like you can in deadly alliance.
oh and about the reversals, to put this to rest, i think jax has the highest damage arm reversal, and shang tsung has the highest leg reversal.
jax
arm reversal
judo:cs,cs,2,2,cs,4,b+2,b+2,4,4,cs,4=40%
shang tsung

about frosts' hair im just saying if you have her look down and a low angle or very high at a high angle, her hair distorts itself, no gameplay effect, just looks weird. maybe its just a gamecube problem, i have no idea, but im gonna have to get an xbox for mk:armageddon by october so ill be sure to rent then copy deadly alliance for it. ill let you know if it happens on the xbox too :\
when i first played deadly alliance, way back when, i had the hardest time with moloch. he takes reduced damage, you cant throw him, you cant pop him up, and he has a grabbing attack that cannot be blocked (though you can duck it). but now i can kill moloch easier than perhaps any other character in arcade mode. i usually use hsu hao or frost, i find they are the easiest moloch killers. with hsu hao, just use 1,1,2 in shuai chaio, and if moloch is blocking, just hit 2 again and then hold block to block molochs counter attack, then try again. if the 2 connects, go for the full style branch. with frost, just go with yuan yang, then use 4,4,u+3, wash rinse repeat, wont do much damage, does like 12% i think, but you can easily kill him with it because you can attack right after him. ive never gotten a flawless on moloch but ive heard that you can with quan chi and his broadswords some how, but ive never done it. anyone ever get a flawless on moloch?
and finally ive found a new frost wall combo, here it is:
wall combo
yuan yang:power up,cs,cs,u+2,u+2,2,1,1,2,2,cs,f+1=65%

damn i still cant find a wall combo for shang tsung.
anyway, have you noticed that you can sometimes move around in a circle faster by pressing block rapidly? does that neccessarily mean anything? for instance pick reptile, then try pressing up as fast as you can, and try to notice the speed. now hold up, and press block about 3 or 4 times per second. noticed how you move around at least twice as fast? does that mean anything? or am i just reading too much into it?

quick question, is it possible to power up immediately after freezing someone with either sub zero or frost? i thought it was possible with frost, but only against the wall, where you dont have to walk closer to strike, but am i wrong?
is it possible to power up after a freeze with sub or frost?

heh, yes, nice, its possible with sub zero, however it doesnt give as high damage as one would expect now would it? its like 41% right?
however if you use frost you can get the full 65% wall combo with a power up if you freeze them right against the wall.....right? its probobly possible, but it would have to be perfect timing, actualy maybe the u+1 in tong bei wouldnt connect, but maybe the u+3 yuan yang would?
well i see you have a raiden wall combo, even if it does the same amount of damage as his full style branch.
how about a kenshi wall combo? lol. now that would be the stuff of dreams.

oh my fucking god.
its official. frost has a free ground freeze after a long range ice slide. im not sure if this is an infinite or not, but im 100% positive that you can get at least 1 free ground freeze with this. this definitly will lead to some more damage for her. what do you guys think?
