NetherRealm Studios and Creative Director Ed Boon have certainly heard fans' cry for more since the game's April release! They acknowledged the social media chorus with a teaser video that shows Shang Tsung on an iPhone and promises a full trailer Wednesday, August 21st!

Shang Tsung was the first downloadable character announced way back in March. An official gameplay reveal trailer also confirmed three more of the five remaining Kombat Pack characters, with Nightwolf arriving to early access this week.

Efforts to placate impatient fans have included the release of a first-look at Sindel in a screenshot that recalls the heavy shadows typical of past game's DLC reveal trailers. Spawn creator Todd McFarlane also hyped his character's inclusion during San Diego Comic-Con.

With two guest characters strongly suspected but yet to be revealed - what do you hope to see in the Wednesday trailer? Tell us all about it in the comments below and connected with MK Online on the Mortal Kombat 11 forum, Twitter, and Facebook.

Mortal Kombat Movie Adds Jax, Mileena & Raiden
Supergirl & Thor actors lineup as iconic fighters.

The cast of the Mortal Kombat movie just got a massive injection of characters & talent with three roles confirmed cast, and a fourth in negotiation! Read on:

The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively confirmed the casting of iconic Mortal Kombat fighters: Jackson "Jax" Briggs, Mileena, and Liu Kang!

Mehcad Brooks became a familiar face on TV's Supergirl playing an impressive, off-model version of Jimmy Olsen, who also doubled as the armored vigilante Guardian. He'll now apply that muscle to the role of Jax. Australian unknown Sisi Stringer will step into the role of Mileena. Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano, who fittingly appeared in Thor: Ragnarok as one of the thunder god's friends, Hogun, is reportedly in talks to play the thunder god Raiden.

THR notes New Line Cinema is seeking a "diverse international cast" that authentically reflects the origins of the game series, recruiting actors from various realms of experience, including film, television, and martial arts.

Canadian actor Ludi Lin is also locked in according to the THR report, confirming very recent news he was in negotiations to play Liu Kang. He confirmed as much himself, thanking fans for their support for the series, while paying homage to Robin Shou, who iconically played the role in 1995's Mortal Kombat and the sequel Mortal Kombat; Annihilation.

The confirmed trio joins Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero with filming to begin later this year in Australia for a 2021 theatrical release. Simon McQuoid makes his feature directing debut, which is said to feature R-rated action with a sense of humor.

Mortal Kombat Movie Eyeing Power Rangers Star for Liu Kang
Actor seen in Black Mirror and Aquaman reportedly in talks.

So far only one feature role has been confirmed cast for the upcoming 2021 Mortal Kombat movie reboot. Fresh reports suggest a prominent actor is in serious talks to play Liu Kang. Read on:

Ludi Lin (right) as "Lance" in Black Mirror Season 5 episode "Striking Vipers".

Variety is reporting actor Ludi Lin has entered negotiations with New Line Cinema. The Chinese born Canadian actor starred as the Black Ranger in Saban's big screen Power Rangers reboot, and more recently featured as a virtual martial artist in the Mortal Kombat inspired episode of Black Mirror: Strking Vipers [pictured above].

Lin seems to be a strong prospect having also appeared as Captain Murk in 2018's Aquaman: a DC Comics superhero epic directed by James Wan, who is also serving as producer on Mortal Kombat. Born in the Fujian province, he received education in Australia, where filming will begin later this year. Australian Simon McQuoid will direct.

Liu Kang's role in the Mortal Kombat feature film will be heavily scrutinized by fans who know him best as a Shaolin Monk destined to defend the realm of Earth as champion of the Mortal Kombat tournament. His story was memorably adapted in the 1995 feature film starring Robin Shou.

James Wan has stressed efforts to "get it right", actively rebuking plot rumors. Under director Kevin Tancharoen, Liu Kang was rumored to be reinvented as a supermarket clerk. Tancharoen gave the character an amoral edge when Brian Tee appeared in the official Mortal Kombat' Legacy webseries.
