Jim Lee Draws Mortal Kombat's Kitana
Superstar artist kreates Kitana art!

By day he's the President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, but by night -- or art live stream -- Jim Lee is the highly talented artist behind iconic comic book runs of Batman, Superman, X-Men and more. He recently turned his hand to one of MK's best known assassins. Take a look!

Jim Lee memorably applied his comic book sensibilities to designing Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden for the DC Comics Injustice video game series, also developed by NetherRealm Studios. This time, however, he applied his pencil & brush to rendering Kitana in a design reminiscent of her appearance in Mortal Kombat (2011).

Completion of the drawing was featured on Jim Lee's Twitch channel, garnering thousands of viewers for the explosive master class. Ed Boon received the art with enthusiasm, sharing the finished product to his X (Twitter) account: "Only @JimLee could call an illustration (as brilliant as this) a sketch. Jim, please tell me the plan is for someone to kolor this in".

It's been a while since MK last appeared on the page in the 2016 Mortal Kombat X tie-in series published by DC Comics, but there'll be plenty of superhero crossovers when the Kombat Pack downloadable content delivers Peacemaker, Homelander, and Omni Man to Mortal Kombat 1 in 2024!

Geras Serves in Mortal Kombat 1 Keepers of Time Trailer
The sands of time shift again!

The ancient automaton Geras makes his return in the latest Mortal Kombat 1 character reveal trailer. A creation of the previous Keeper of Time, he convenes with the overseer of a new reality in dramatic new scenes. Take a look:

Geras wields the sands of time to pummel and pound his opponents into submission in new gameplay, but its his relationship with Fire God Liu Kang that makes his return especially interesting. The new timeline has made them allies over eons, but Geras warns that bending destiny towards peace may have already compromised it!

Geras made his debut in Mortal Kombat 11, where his limitless abilities to undo injury left him sinking indefinitely into the Sea of Blood, after fighting Raiden and his forces on behalf of his creator - The Keeper of Time, Kronika.

Geras appears to be a friend to Liu Kang in this new timeline of the Fire God's creation, but as outlined in character bios, his manipulations have overlooked an enemy he could never have anticipated. Does Geras bring warning of this new threat -- or is the eternal android a part of it?

Forbidden Fates in Li Mei, Baraka & Tanya Mortal Kombat 1 Bios
Redemption, preservation, protection.

The story of the Umgadi -- an order of warrior priestesses who guard Outworld's royal family -- was introduced in a thrilling new trailer that spotlights Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka. The familiar characters have returned with all new origins, which see them harboring personal tragedies in new Mortal Kombat 1 character bios. Take a closer look:

Though only two of the characters have themselves been part of the Umgadi order, the trio shares a bond of traumatic personal events. Li Mei quit the order after a royal assassination, while Tanya's forbidden affection threatens her place on it, and Baraka deals with the Tarkat plague afflicting the new Outworld era.

Li Mei (First Constable of Sun Do)
As her parents' firstborn daughter, Li Mei was claimed by the Umgadi, the warrior priestesses who guard Outworld's royal family.

Li Mei's service began with high expectations. Her early success caught the eye of the Royal family.

But it all fell apart when a terrible tragedy unfolded. Li Mei was blamed for this and in the aftermath, she did the unthinkable: she quit the Umgadi.

Friendless and alone, Li Mei needed a new purpose. She joined Sun Do's constables, the Outworld capital's rough and tumble police force. Over time, she became their First Constable.

Li Mei is glad to be the capital guardian. Still, she hopes one day to redeem herself.

Baraka (Defender of the Tarkatans)
Baraka was once a respected Outworld merchant. But that life ended in an instant when he contracted the dreaded Tarkat plague.

Incurable, contagious, and the cause of severe physical deformities, Tarkat turned Baraka into a monster. He was cast out and doomed to live out his days in a colony of similarly afflicted Outworlders.

When Baraka first arrived, the colony was in disarray. His fellow Tarkatans had given up and were ready to die.

Their hopelessness lit a fire in Baraka's heart. He spares no effort to better his fellow Tarkatans' lives. He knows that as long as he fights, he will never truly be a victim.

Tanya (Guardian of Outworld's Royal Family)
Chosen as an infant from Outworld's first-born daughters, Tanya was raised by the Umgadi's priestesses. She's never known her birth family.

As she grew older and saw other initiates wash out, Tanya feared that she would share their fate. But that fear spurred success; after many attempts, Tanya passed her trials and became a full Umgadi.

Over time, Tanya became one of the order's most trusted members. She was the obvious choice when it needed to choose a new leader for the royal family's personal guard.

As an Umgadi, Tanya is sworn to peity and chastity. That is why her bond with Princess Mileena, were it known, would cause a scandal. By following her heart, Tanya risks not only her position but also her life.

The bios further flesh out details for the new reality of Mortal Kombat 1's timeline. Li Mei operates in the reveal trailer as part of the Sun Do constabulary, while it seems Empress Mileena will have romantic affiliations with Tanya in this world, rather than Baraka.

Warner Bros Reportedly Confirms MK1 Kombat Pack Content with Kameos
Playable & Kameo fighters confirmed!

Following a live presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, and the release of the Li Mei, Tanya & Baraka and Kombat Pack trailers; Warner Brothers has reportedly circulated an e-mail confirming contents from the announcements, including the identities of all first-wave downloadable characters, including Kameos. Read on for details:

The e-mail, shared by @_KSIK_ to the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, outlines the various Kombat Pack offerings, including further validation of an Amazon Italy listing that prematurely publicized a then-unannounced post-release Mortal Kombat 1 downloadable content schedule.

The WB e-mail confirms Kombat Pack Kameo fighters Ferra, Johnny Cage, Khameleon, Mavado, and Tremor, and further specifies previously reported, fully playable characters Quan Chi, Ermac, Takahashi Takeda, Homelander, Omni Man, and Peacemaker.

The eclectic Kameo Fighter list draws from various points in the series' history, bringing back characters last seen in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and Mortal Kombat X. This follows the reveal of Mortal Kombat: Deception original Darrius as a Kameo in the Umgadi trailer, which some believe also teased Khameleon during story mode sequences.

Hidden in Plain Sight? Fans speculate Umgadi fighter accompanying Tanya in story sequences is Khameleon.

Fan speculation has been rife throughout the Comic-Con cycle, fueled by the unusual circumstances of Mortal Kombat 1's rebooted timeline, and deliberate efforts to subvert aspects of characters' origins.

Despite previous reports; fans began speculating the upcoming downloadable Takeda may actually be an alias used by Hanzo Hasashi. This was inspired by an IGN developer break down that seemingly confirmed the identity of this game's Scorpion to be Kuai Liang, aka; Sub-Zero.

What do you think about the additional Kameo fighters? Kombat Pack DLC is expected Spring 2024 following the release of MK1 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC in September.
