Hellboy Crosses Over in Injustice 2 Trailer
The BPRD demon hits people starting November!

Injustice 2 is really going to Hell, and comic book guest character Hellboy is giving DC's heroes and villains a guided tour! Watch the trailer to see what we mean:

Injustice 2's downloadable Fighter Pack 2 will conclude November 14th with the early access release of Hellboy. He follows already available fighters Black Manta and Raiden!

Created by artist Mike Mignola for a 1993 convention special; Hellboy has gone on to be one of independent comics' greatest icons! Dark Horse Comics have published his adventures across many dozens of mini-series and spin-offs, sometimes starring Hellboy's friends in the Beureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD), and other weird and wonderful characters from this world. In 1999, Hellboy even visited the DC Universe in the two issue crossover series: Batman/Hellboy/Starman.

Hellboy was first summoned to our plane during the Second World War by Grigori Rasputin and Nazi scientists. Discovered instead by Allied Troops; Hellboy, as he was nicknamed, was raised like any ordinary military brat, growing up to have a workman's attitude towards his role as a brawling force for good in a world of old gods, monsters, and occult horrors!

NetherRealm Studios deliver a comic-inspired Hellboy equipped with his stone-like Right Hand of Doom, sidearm, and limited tolerance for crap. If you've got an Injustice 2 Deluxe Edition or Fighter Pack 2, you won't have to take any crap when Hellboy arrives - next month.

Fixing Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection for Windows 10
Tips for playing Arcade Kollection Kombat klassics on newer OS.

It really is a shame that Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection has been more or less abandoned on Steam/PC.

This past weekend, I went to the Houston Arcade Expo for my annual classic arcade gaming fix. While there, I noticed that for the first time they not only had Mortal Kombat II, but the original Mortal Kombat and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 as well. Of course, I had played for several minutes on UMK3 before realizing, "Hey, I could be playing this at home..."

I have Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection for both Xbox 360 and Steam, but my Xbox 360 is currently packed away. So, that night, while waiting for friends to be ready to play Team Fortress 2, I plugged in my USB gamepad and launched MKAK for some classic MK action!

That was the plan, any way. What ended up happening was that the game hung at the title screen. It said "Press Enter" -- but completely ignored when I pressed Enter.

After doing some research, I found that the problem was that Arcade Kollection requires Games for Windows Live, which Microsoft had ended up abandoning [in 2014]. While many games were patched by their developers to use Steamworks instead, MKAK was already essentially abandoned by WB Games, and was never patched. In fact, MKAK is only available for me because I purchased the game; it's no longer available on Steam for purchase.

Fortunately, there is a fix! I mostly got the fix from this guide, though I ended up modifying it via trial and error, and looking at one or two other sites as the steps as given don't work on Windows 10.

The procedure is:

  1. Go into Apps and Features on Windows 10 (right click on the Start Menu to reach it), and uninstall "Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable" and "Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace".
  2. Reboot your system. (This IS required.)
  3. Download two GWFL files: xlive.ini and xlive.dll. You can download them right here. (Zipped RAR file).
  4. Place the two files into your MKAK install directory. The default should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection.
  5. The game should now work properly.

I really do wish WB Games and/or NetherRealm Studios would support Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection again, as I can't imagine there isn't a market for the classic games [with the original now celebrating its 20th Anniversary!]. In the meantime, for those of us who bought the PC version and found it didn't work on Windows 10, I'm hoping this will help.

Injustice 2 PC Beta Coming Soon
Injustice 2 PC release confirmed, Beta announcement coming.

The heroes and villains of DC are about to go PC thanks to Injustice 2!

The latest fighting game from the makers of Mortal Kombat is the number one choice for DC Comics fighting games -- but until now, its only been available for home consoles, and mobile platforms.

PC Gamer reported confirmation from Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment of the future release, but NetherRealm Studios has been quick to put the kibosh on a PC Beta beginning as soon as tomorrow.!

The developer took to Twitter to carify the situation, clearly stating: "The PC beta will NOT begin tomorrow. Stay tuned for more information!".

Warner Bros. has had a chequered past on the PC platform, but recovered last year with a fixed release of Mortal Kombat XL that included content updates, and the introduction of GGPO rollback method for improved online performance. MKXL benefitted from open beta, and similar tech is expected to give Injustice 2 a just start on PC!

Injustice 2 is still rolling out updates for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with guest fighter Raiden now available, and Fighter Pack 2 soon to conclude with independent comics guest: Hellboy!

Looking forward to I2 on PC? Whether you're signing up for beta, part of the modding scene, or have thoughts about what's next - MK Online wants to hear from you! Register to share your thoughts on all things DC in the DC Universe Injustice forum!

Lost Kontent: Raiden Adventure Game Screenshot
Ed Boon shares Shaolin Monks screenshot featuring Raiden!

For twenty-five years Raiden has remained one of Mortal Kombat's most identifiable characters. He's featured in movies, television, and a string of crossover guest roles, most recently playable in Injustice 2! He could probably star in his own video game, and apparently - it almost happened!

Series Co-Creator Ed Boon recently revealed a development screenshot of Raiden starring in the action-adventure spin-off that eventually became Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks!

When Shaolin Monks shipped for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2005, it featured a retelling of the events of Mortal Kombat II from the playable co-op perspective of Liu Kang and Kung Lao. An in-game Versus Mode let players control a variety of the game's klassic kombatants, but only Scorpion and Sub-Zero were available as additional characters in the main third-person adventure levels.

Rather than MKII's humble protector who appears in story mode cut scenes; the development screenshot reveals a more ornately designed thunder god, who was the only character featured in an earlier build! A rare glimpse of what might have been!

Initially controversial amongst die hard fans of the series mythology; Shaolin Monks has grown in esteem with a generation of fans who discovered the series in the mid-2000s. Its become a jewel in the series' crown thanks to core mechanics that brilliantly convert klassic kombat into a three-dimensional, story-driven plane. So much so that requests for a hi-def Shaolin Monks remake, sequel, or like-mind spin-off have become a regular fixture for fans!

Although a similar style of play featured in Armageddon via Konquest Mode; the 2005 co-op brawler remains the last time Mortal Kombat exited the fighting game arena for a pure spin-off. The drought belies a once grand plan for the series, which began its spin-off expansions with platform-fighting fusion Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero in 1997, and third-person kombat-shooter Mortal Kombat: Special Forces in 2000.
