There will be UMK3 and MKII tournaments at Winter Brawl at the Sheraton Suites Hotel, February 27th, 2009. The turnout for NECX was great, with 19 players in the tournament, and about 25 total in the house of at least 700 total players.
Both UMK3 and MKII will be played on PCs and we'll supply at least 4 (four) UMK3 format sticks to use for both games, so MKII's will have a run button on them but that won't make a difference. I do not intend on bringing any 360 pads with me, so if anyone wants to use pad they should bring their own, I do bring a spare PSX pad and converter however. We'll also have a couple SF stick layouts available if necessary.
We've done a lot for the community over the years even before we made ultimatemk, and all we've ever asked if for players to get active and represent MK at tournaments, wherever they may be. We can't be everywhere but we try to run as many tournaments as possible in our region. I've run tournaments in 4 states, in Philly this will be the 7th I've run, and 9th I've been a part of. There have been 4 UMK3 tournaments in 2009 with double digit player turnouts. They'd be a lot higher if everyone who says they would show, actually did. Tournaments are a great and fun experience, you meet a lot of people, and there are endless games to choose from. You don't all play just MK.
Start up time either day will most likely begin around 4PM.
Thank you players, hope to see you there.

UMK3 (and possibly other Klassic MK games) is available to download, and play online via X-box 360 Live Arcade. This should really help the competitive spirit in the game folks. I hope to see you all online.
Usual "in person" tournaments are at 8 on the Break, 340 North Ave, Dunellen, NJ 08812, other locations will be listed.

This thread is for people who want to play eachother in any Classic MK game, online, get Kaillera nick names to look for, etc, possible group meetings. If anyone here plays on Kaillera, just post your nick and I'll update this first message. I'm hoping to see a lot of UMK3 players. If you have anything specific about your nick, like tags etc, add them as well. I know there are a lot of players on here.

Excellent, I'm checking out the match vids now, how come player 2 doesn't block really or prevent throws in most of the matches?

it seems that many players try to hit you before the throw, which is almost impossible, so they are trying to uppercut you but you actually throw them, it often happens after the early jump kick

They could hold away while trying to uppercut you and at least they won't get thrown...
I am occasionally on as [âa-DreemerNJ-âa]
My AIM nick is vanadium mike
I just got my new computer but have actually been spending most online time with a different game. I will be trying to get back into UMK3 however since I am quite rusty.
Can't wait to play some of y'all

I go by db most of the time on kaillera, but sometimes you'll catch me as krsx or krsx66.
---
Right on, despite the fact we got pwned, it was still a lot of fun
Matt is pretty damn badass at umk3, like you can watch all the gamplay vids and combo vids but until u actualy play him u dont realize just how much better than you he is.
MK2KB, I'ma start calling you Shang, cus it was honestly like you knew exactly what I would do next...
ps MKSmoke, I looked for ya after MK2KB left, but couldn't find u in any room
---
Oh, and I'll ask to get this thread stickied, as I feel we can use to post comments (good or otherwise) about recent matches we've played against each other. Or use it to host match vids if anyone records their online games...

Yeah ggs guys, it was a lot of fun. I hadn't really played it in a while. I played a friend of ded_'s last night too on a UK server, it was kind of annoying but I still had fun with the 117ms.
As for the throwing, the only time I get thrown is when there's not enough time to for the "back" input to respond because there's just simply too little of a window online if there's any delay. I've noticed I'll have just touched back, but still be thrown. It's the same tiny delay that causes things like punisher combos to not happen, you know what's coming, you block it, but then can't punish cause you have to be sure you blocked, so coming out of block again the window of time is too small, and guessing the release time is dangerous cause you usually get hit. This is only on Midwest, West Coast, European servers, and in the middle of the day, which is why I like to play really late on East coast servers lol. I make sacrifices when it comes to MK though. When playing a game like MvC, I don't bother anywhere but east coast because there's always comp for that in every server. To get back to the throwing though. You simply never have to be thrown as long as you are on top of things. Frame data wise, if you are holding D+B and uppercut someone as they are running in attemping to throw, you cannot lose as long you hit the HP button when they are still about a step away. Even if they try to throw, the uppercut will beat the LP which replaces the throw cause it's started several frames earlier. I sometimes don't bother with the uppercut though, I'll just ducking LK a few times and then run in and combo or start run jabbing. Also on the reverse end if I know someone is expecting a rush in, I will stop running right outside of the uppercut range, then run step in again and combo. This is a tactic that isn't useful in any delay, similar to things like running in and blocking a scream or Kitana's fan lift, which I did to someone last night. ded_, I don't remember your Kaillera nick and your friend's, can you post them and his MKOnline nick if he has one?
I'll update the first post and add some names.

Too bad about that lag Nafa... we can give it another go some other time, hopefully with better results! I was pinging at like 18 so you must have been lagging like crazy. I'm playing from the East Coast, how about you?

psyclobex, what is your Kaillera nick? I can add you to the list, I was thinking about also adding an AIM screen name contact to that list as well for everyone, but I would only if you truly want to since that's not something everyone is willing to give out, but if enough people want to I'll add that to the list. I think PMs and this thread would be enough to get in touch with people but PMs are just like email, real time challenges are way easier.
Anyone else think that an AIM contact name added for the match making is worth it? I've gotten a few IMs directly from people, I hope there's more than this. I'm going to try and get people I know who play regularly to join the site as well and start really building a community of MK players Again I'm hoping people really pick up on UMK3 as it's widely considered the most complete and deepest game in the series.

hello. i have a question about netplay kaillera.
i want to ask how the good players play normally MK series when they have big delay, its almost impossible to do big combos or good retalation when you actually perform the move 1 or 2 seconds after you pressed the requered button, but the good players always block and to what they want.

As you can probably tell by my sig, I got no problem adding my AIM to the list.
Hit up "BustaUppa" (surprise surprise) on AIM if you're up for some games!
