Kobra sucks.

I like the idea of going back to designing characters the same way they did it for the original MK1: basing them on guys from famous kung fu movies, in his case, the bully from Karate Kid.

I also like the idea of an MK character being a Street Fighter parody.

Kobra's problem is he doesn't actually have Shoto-clone special moves OR Sweep The Leg!

That and like Hsu Hao, he was supposed to die in the same game he was created (if it weren't for Armageddon), so they didn't bother giving him a fleshed out personality.

Anyway, I pick the alt. They're practically the same exact fuckin' outfit, but he does look a little cooler with the hood up. And it's kinda like he's trying to make his own head look like his cobra logo, which is silly but subtle enough to not be too silly (as opposed to, say, Scorpion wearing shoulder pads shaped like giant scorpions with cartoonish fucking claws and tails on them...)

Ken- I mean, generic white guy- I mean, Kobra isn't bad at all! In fact, I se him a lot in Deception/ Unchained!

Kobra sucks. I think they could have at least called him Cen, to reverse the K in Ken into a C, which I didn't have to explain.

Anyway, I guess I like the more serious MK like look in his Primary better.

OK, so many looks, such a good character, so where do i begin? Well, the retro-3D era certainly had more interesting differences in outfits than the modern. The new game's costumes are really similar (= boring), i really like that they took a chance and made a 'hatless' costume. However, my favourite has to be from Shaolin Monks, since KL was easily the best (and my favourite) playable character there. A nice nod/modern update of the classic MKII first appearance. (and yes i realise that it's practically the same as the MK9 primary, i am tempted to class them as the same.)

Kung Lao For The Fucking Win!
I like his MK;DDA Alternate/ MK;A Primary Look the best. It still retains the generic Kung lao Mk2 style costume and makes him look both badass AND Shaolin, something no other character can do.

It emphasizes "I'm a monk, but I'm not afraid to kick your ass, either."

MKDA Primary.

I wish NRS kept this look from then on. It's an amazing costume for him, and it makes his hat more significant, because it's not always on his head.

Difficult to believe that there have been so few looks for such a forerunning character. I love the fact that her costumes really help tell her story too. I like the tragic thing she has going for her; the fact that she was doomed to lose even though she won (and is to date the only female 'winner' of a MK tournament), and later after revivication still felt drawn to the evil side, making her question her own motives. Anyway, i almost always choose alt for MKD and primary for MKDA, and my vote has to go to MKDA primary for the fresh new look she had and the bold move of not-too much skin reveal (even though that was later cancelled out when you unlocked her alt.)

I vote for her MKDA alt. Twice. I don't think I should have to explain why.

All of her costumes (except the MKDA alt) are pretty good at visually communicating who her character is. You can see "young kung fu student" in the first, "part of me is drawn to the Dragon King" in the dragon wings bra, and "innocence lost, hardened warrior" with a touch of "influenced by the armored mummy I shared my soul with" in the full armor.
The MKD Primary is my fave though because I think the bandana does the best job of making her look different from all the other black haired females in the cast. That and the dragon wings bra are simple enough to form what could be a memorable and iconic recurring theme.

Quick question;

When we get to Sub-Zero, are we going to classify 2 different character sfor him for Bi Han and Kuai Liang? It seems right, considering it's not the same character.

OK, quite a few to choose from here. Couldn't get a decent pic of him from the DA opening FMV pre-neck snap. So, not very much variation from the same theme early on, i love the detail that's gone into the most recent games (notably the belt fom MKvsDC). My favourite costume reflects the moment in the original timeline that really defines the point when the series took a twist: The death of Liu Kang. That's why i'm voting for the zombie costume. It gave him even more of a vendetta against Shang, it took the series down an unexplored path (killing off one of the protagonists was a huge brave step... then), it made the whole character more intresting for me, and call me a weirdo, i thought he looked hotter undead.

That belt is hideous.


MK (2011) primary for Liu.

My favorite Liu outfit is that one from Deception that you can only see on Ghost Liu or when he's wandering around Lei Chen in Konquest.



I really don't understand why they didn't use it for his human alt too and reused the boring old MK2 thru 4 pants instead.

After that...I have to say, MK9 ending God Liu is awesome.

Hmm... it's a tough choice considering most of them are pretty much identical. Zombie Liu just feels wierd, and God Liu from MK9 just destroys hic charracter. I do, however, think Spirit Liu is pretty awesome.

I vote for MK:D Spirit Liu.
