His storyline is better developed, him turning back into a human with a soul instead of just keep being a soulless robot. He also got the more interesting and fun gameplay, better special moves and his all human form in the new MK simply looks better than Sektor's. Sektor is a cold, heartless and mindless drone who turns powerhungry... It's just been seen so many times.

Cyrax is just the better character overall which is why people favour him over Sektor.

I'd say the main reason is the gameplay in MK3, where people seemed to lean towards Cyrax more due to his green net having similar properties as Scorpion's spear.

If it makes you feel any better, I like Sektor more.

I did have fun playing as Cyrax in MK9 but since I was little kid I've always liked Sektor but most of my friends always favor Cyrax for some reason and I always wondered why. I mean Sektor has a main part in Cyrax's storyline up until Deadly Alliance and then Sektor switch to Sub-Zero's storyline for a little while and then it was that stupid storyline with Sektor's Tekunin Clan fighting The Special Forces.

But I can understand why Cyrax is liked more, I mean the MK team in the past has done more work to make Cyrax more cool then Sektor but now in MK9, the MK team has made Sektor into a better character now then in the past. Hopefully we'll get to see Sektor and the new Lin Kuei in the next MK game.



Yeah I always joked with my friends that Sektor and Cyrax are the robot versions of Scorpion and Sub-Zero but I'm always glad to meet a fellow Sektor fan lol

It's funny, because back then I disliked Cyrax for that exact reason. To me he was just a yellow robot version of Scorpion, so I liked Sektor better back then. Cyrax have proven to be more than that though and he's passed Sektor on my fave list. However, Cyber Subbie is my favourite of the cyborg ninjas now. ^^

I guess fans prefer Cyrax because his story is more versetile. First he is sent to eliminate people, then he gets stuck in a desert, gets reprogrammed by Sonya and Jax, dives in magma for Nitara and has an entire chapter for himself in MK2011.

Sektor's story is your ususal villian: get pissed off at the world and kill, kill, kill. He didn't even get a chapter in the new game, which I was disappointed because all the good guys (and Scorpion) got chapters but we never got the bad guys' sides of the story.

Story never had anything to do with it. Cyrax was more popular because of his gameplay in MK3 with the net, as has been said. People will always gravitate towards characters that have a move that lets you get a free hit on the other guy. Just ask Scorpion and Sub-Zero. And speaking of Scorpion, his absence in the original MK3 was a big part of people gravitating towards Cyrax. Sektor was more a standard issue fireball (missiles in his case) and teleport character. Even today in MK9 Cyrax is more versatile with his bomb traps.

It's too bad Deadly Alliance Cyrax sucked so bad. Replacing the net with that useless ballerina spin-kick thing...ugh. A not only completely worthless move, but it has nothing to do with the character. It amazes me people here think DA was the highpoint of the series...oh that's right, they only care about story.

Now if we're talking story I always thought Sektor was a much cooler CHARACTER than Cyrax. And he kinda steals the show in MK9...one of the series' best villians.

And thank god there's no more "Tekunin" anymore. Lin Kuei or bust.

I hated Deadly Alliance and I agree with you that Sektor steal the show in MK9 and your not the only one that hated the Tekunin, I'm really glad to see Sektor as the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei.
