Your Reaction: If MKX Had Delivered A Seasonal DLC Run

posted09/05/2015 02:43 PM (UTC)byKenshiMaster16By seasonal DLC run, I mean similar to Killer Instinct. Now, obviously I'm running off the idea that MKX would've still sold as a retail game but with a slightly lower roster count so, as an example, say MKX launched with a 16 character roster and 6 arenas but for $39.99;
- Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Jax, Fujin, Kotal Kahn, Kano, Raiden, Tanya, Rain, Mileena, Cassie Cage, Takeda, Kung Jin, Ferra/Torr and Shinnok
- Dead Woods, Emperor's Courtyard, Jinsei Chamber, Destroyed City, Outworld Marketplace and Lin Kuei Temple
Then for example Season 1 rolled around and we got 9 characters and 6 more arenas;
- Sonya Blade, Quan Chi, D'Vorah, Baraka, Jacqui Briggs, Kenshi, Reptile, Frost and Kung Lao
- Refugee Kamp, Kuatan Jungle, Krossroads, Quan Chi's Fortress, The Kove and The Pit
Then, again for example, Season 2 rolled around and again we got 9 characters and 6 additional arenas;
- Liu Kang, Kitana, Ermac, Sindel, Tremor, Bo' Rai Cho, Erron Black, Li Mei and Sektor
- The Living Forest, Edenia, The Portal, Sky Temple, Golden Desert and Training Room
What would you have thought of this possible route? Would you like it, dislike it? Do you think this would've helped extend the games lifespan instead of a bigger initial roster and the 4 character DLC packs? Do you think something similar to this should be implemented or considered in the future for incoming installments?
Seeing as we have a potentially long wait ahead of us for the next DLC run of 4 characters, I'm interested in hearing you guys' thoughts.

I wish a fighting game company would release a game early in a console's run(within the first 2 year) and just keep supporting it until the following console. The constant updates Capcom brought to SF4 pissed a lot of people off but I liked it. Every once in a while you'd get new content and big gameplay patches that were worth the price of admission.
Give me 4 characters, 4 levels and a skin for everyone every year until the PS5 is out.

Well the starting point is more than killer instinct, so I'd be with it. KIs DLC model builds hype

As long as the prices are reasonable I would likely be ok with it.

I see the benefits of the KI business model, but I don't like the idea of keeping a shit ton of content locked away on purpose and charging people for it. I support DLC, but when you put in 8 characters every year I gotta draw the line somewhere.
SFV is doing a similar tactic BUT you can earn extra content through in-game currency. That is better since I don't have to pay for anything.
But for me, I'd rather just have an Ultimate MKX. They release it a year later for 40$ and it comes with 8 characters, 4 new stages, and at least 2 new skins for each character. I like to have all my content at once rather than spaced out over time.

I would much rather them keep adding to this game than make a new one. The problem is ppl r so damn spoiled now with their new story mode that they'd rather them move onto the next game then continue supporting this game. This game badly needs more stages. I dont care if they just add mk9 stages with extra detail n the environmental attacks.
There's still a ton of klassic kharacters that would be awesome in this game n more klassic fatalities

You might rant on people wanting more story but you're part of the crowd setting the game back always asking for more klassic anything.

HA! The way this community(and I mean damn near the WHOLE community), especially the entitled pricks on twitter, just reacted to a four month wait on DLC? I don't think we're quite ready for that.
Now that that's out of my system, I wouldn't mind seeing what's happening now continue. Put out a fully featured game, then build on it from there. NRS' break neck production schedule will never truly allow this game to be a platform, but oh the places it could go if it did.

I rather have a game that is 100% complete and I don't have to buy everything with it to enjoy it.
So no, I would hate the idea if Netherealm Studios started doing that with their product. That would actually make me leave the series.

That SFV flow if Capcom keeps their word. Truthfully this is the ideal for me. Release the game then update that bitch for YEARS okay.I wish a fighting game company would release a game early in a console's run(within the first 2 year) and just keep supporting it until the following console. It really bugs me when people complain about others wanting "Klassic" stuff. If you don't like the original stuff, then why do you still play the game?

lol Interesting points of view. I personally would love to see them take this approach maybe just for one game to test the waters. Each Season could come with those characters and arenas, perhaps story chapters that feature those seasonal characters to extend the story... oh the places it could go.

You know one of the biggest reasons people like this aporoach is because it expands the game's lifespan. But you know what else could help MKX's life cycle?
A good netcode. Seriously, if the netcode was dependable I wouldn't need more characters.

God this is very true. Both would just be a dream come true, but considering their track record with netcode issues..... lol I hardly play online so I don't experience a lot of those issues but my God, when I do, I wanna pull my hair out.

Oh My God same. It's the most frustrating thing in the world learning how to do dope stuff locally and can't pull it off online because of lag or button latency. God this is very true. But yeah, its all about increasing the life of the game. NRS knows that and has spoken on it before so hopefully they'll be like their contemporaries and keep the post launch content coming.

Yeah exactly, that's the dream. Even if it's just like costumes and arena's now and again, they can surely put people aside for a few weeks to take an MK9 arena, add some interactions and sell at a cheap price. You'd think it'd be doable.

Not to mention I was primarily using the Story Mode as a template in their order of appearance, if you didn't catch on to that.

The thing that kind of annoys me about the whole "netcode" thing is that they (as far as im aware) refuse to even acknowledge it. We all know they know it has issues. I also heard that people on TYM straight @ other members there who are actualy part of the NRS team but if it has anything to do with the netcode...*crickets*
