Would Kintaro and Sheeva be overkill with Goros inclusion?
Would Kintaro and Sheeva be overkill with Goros inclusion?
Something that I don't think has been discussed much, if at all, is whether it's redundant or not to include all three Shokan characters (as well as new ones) in the same game.
NRS probably thinks that, since every appearances by Kintaro and Sheeva beginning with MKT were only for completion's sake. MKX is not another Trilogy/Armageddon, plus if what I've read is true, Ed Boon has never really been a huge fan of Kintaro, nor Sheeva who's also not that popular even with the fanbase.
I wouldn't be surprised if Goro once again was given some of Kintaro and Sheeva's moves, like they did in MK4 and Deception.
To me, there's obviously nothing wrong with including three Shokan or more. They can be as individualized from one another as human characters can.

I'd be cool with it so long as they're differentiated in terms of storyline and movesets. For instance, Goro leads the Shokan faction in Outworld, Sheeva serves Shinnok and Kintaro serves Kotal. Boom, happy with it. Slight Shokan overkill, in that I'd like see some new fucked up species in this game, but I'm cool with it otherwise

How would you make Kintaro's moveset different from Goro's?

Well if Sheeva was the other Shokan exclusive I'd die a happy man. But let's be real...

Unless these three serving different masters lead to them fighting one another in the story mode, they'd still be mostly lackeys. I doubt the heroes are gonna care that Kintaro's serving Shinnok instead of Kotal.
The differences in the Shokan storylines can be much greater than that. Goro and Sheeva could be at odds in how to help their race. Kintaro may not remotely care about Shokan politics, or he could be undecided about who to ally with.
I still believe that Sheeva's MK9 ending should partially happen, and lead to Sheeva allying with Earth, which Goro might not agree with.
Well, a family of three seems to be a bothersome for people, so I'm going to assume, yeah it would be.
I wouldn't mind these characters to come back. I may have felt a little disappointed with how much they're liked and how they are in the games, I'd still welcome them back with open arms. More with Kintaro and Sheeva than Goro.

Yes.
Sheeva barely has anything going for her aside being a mook, disregarding her ending where she takes up after Goro as a shokan leader. That is it. She literally got killed in the original timeline and got brought back for Armageddon because Midway.
Kintaro, Kintaro is not even supposed to have been a shokan. He is redundant, especially since they put plates on Goro in MK9. Forget him, one shot character, served his purpose when he died via Raiden (semi opaque canon) and roared at the MKA intro. That is it.
There is literally no need for two more shokan.

Sheeva was designed as a svelte counterpart to the beefbags Goro and Kintaro. her inclusion would be good regardless of her lacking story potential. but on a roster of limited size such as this only one of the two meathorkers is needed and it's going to be Goro.
it is my theory that they made Sheeva low tier and gave her a cr*ppy design in MK9 because they wanted her to be unpopular so they would never have to use her again.

No. Keep them both out. As Chrome said, they've served their purposes and are highly overrated. I wouldn't mind a NEW Shokan character, a rival to Goro who challenges him for the rule of the Shokan race or something in that direction. Perhaps from a different race within the Shokan. What I like about Kintaro is that he has tiger stripes which means there are different kinds of Shokan. I wouldn't mind seeing an entirely different one

Not to me but considering I prefer Sheeva over Goro anyway I guess I'm biased. Kintaro would be a neat bonus. Three Shokans with one Shokan fighting style their own individual moves in variations, Sheeva gets sized up to her Armegeddon appearance with her old armor.
Shame it won't happen though.

I find Goro is enough. If another Shokan should make an appearance, I would want Sheeva. I hope never to see Kintaro again.

Since we have Goro, we don't need his male counter-part, Kintaro. Sheeva I can see and would be ok with her.
On another note, if we can take Sheeva's MK9 ending as canon, then she could have possibly sent another female Shokan out to do battle.
They can always give us all three, one for each variation.

Yeah I kinda agree with this. While I absolutely believe in NRS being able to have two or more Shokan characters and have them play completely differently (although that would be a bit trickier with 3 different versions of each), I'd prefer more variation with the characters. I don't wanna play the Cage family vs. the shokans.

While I LOVE Kintaro and Sheeva, it pains me to say they wouldn't be needed for this game with Goro in. Well, I mean BOTH of them together. If it was just Sheeva we're talking about- then hey, I'd love to see her in as she's pretty different from Goro with being slimmer, faster, and fiercer. But Kintaro is really just Goro in Tiger drag that only shows up in "the gangs all here" kind of games- Though I love him, I'm just being honest with how NRS sees him.
Seems there's room for only one true shokan when it comes to returning characters and Goro wins by default by being the most popular and iconic.
In my world however- Kintaro would be in his place and Sheeva would have a spot on the roster as well- giving them both a chance at being in a game that's actually progressive to their stories and not just retellings of what they were doing in 1993/95.

Uh, no. Right off the bat, there is barely anything Johnny that can be found on Cassie in terms of aesthetics, except some (optional) aviators and (optional) green glow. As for Sonya... Please, let's not pretend that the parallels being drawn between her and her daughter's appearance aren't mere speculation, barring the blonde hair*.
*Unless people still consider that too much of a similarity, in which case... *rolls eyes*

I doubt Kintaro and Sheeva will be on the playable roster, but I sure hope they have some sort of role in story mode. It doesn't need to be significant, but they both survived MK9 and that needs to be acknowledged. They could do it similar to the way Motaro was handled in the last game, but hopefully they get a little more love than our favorite Centaurian did.
I actually think story mode could be a nice crutch for fans that want to see their favorite characters included, but likely won't make the playable roster. Ed Boon said that there will be a lot of (some funny) cameos from the older games. Hopefully they find a way to include quite a few characters and not cheapen the story.
