Oh, she had an opportunity. Three, actually. She failed.

If she failed, it's because the writers failed. Not her. Though it's a matter of opinion whether her story's good or not.

True. And I think they failed. All her character, except for her main outfit in MKDA, is fail, imo. Her story, her gameplay, her moves, her other looks... Taking a popular character and just make a female version of him is just bad design choice.

I think it might have been better if they made Sub-Zero a female this time around. The tile of Sub-Zero gets passed down to a woman instead of a man, so it's like having Frost in the game, but with a different background and story. smile

According to some fanboys ANY character they don't personally like who is a woman and/or non-white is nothing more than "affirmative action". Whatever...

Excuse me, you don't hear me rooting for a male Mileena, or a male that uses fans, or a male that strangle people with their legs. Hey! Let's put another bug person in but he's a MALE. No. Just no. I don't want any character of any gender or race to be "affirmatized" because it is STUPID.

Frost was only put in to appease people complain about a female sub zero.

Kind of ironic coming from a Jade, Reiko, and Tanya fan. All three of those characters have been around a lot longer and I'm still waiting for ONE of them to contribute anything worthwhile to the franchise. But we like who we like I suppose.

Bingo. This was going to be my response. "Sub-Zero" is a mantle that is passed down from generation to generation. It might have been a novel idea to make a gender neutral character in the full traditional Sub-Zero garb but have them faster and with a smaller frame to where people don't know if the character is a youth, offspring, etc. Then the big reveal could have been when she removed her mask and "OMG it's a woman!" a la Samus from Metroid.

Yeah, I know, I'm one to talk, being a fan of these characters who aren't part of the very few characters who actually are important to the main story.

However, I still see Frost as below that. To me, she's just a female, evil version of Sub-Zero. She's not her own character... at least not yet. Jade, Reiko and Tanya are their own characters though, even if they have done little of importance.

I love Frost, period. Needs a little more plot development to set her apart but I'd be 100% on this boat.

I'm not sure if I entirely agree with you on Tanya there. Isn't she basically an evil version of Jade? I think she's even very similar to Frost's character.

Frost is a female Sub-Zero. -> Tanya is a yellow female ninja.
Frost uses similar powers as Sub-Zero. -> Tanya uses a boomerang, just like Jade.
Frost turns powerhungry and betrays Sub-Zero. - > Tanya becomes powerhungry and betrays Sindel, Kitana, Jade...

Now I like Tanya, just so you know, but I think it's unfair that you judge Frost for those traits, while turn a blind eye for the same traits in Tanya.

But I get why people would feel that giving Frost a spot on the rost would be a waste, and why Tanya wouldn't be. I sort of feel the same, except that I'm a day-one fan of Frost... so if anything, I kinda feel that Sub-Zero is wasting that spot that could have been used for Frost.

But you know, this is all a matter of tastes. Of course people are going to come up with arguments why their favorite should be in the game, and why others shouldn't be. And that's fine. Just be respectful to the people who's favorites happen to be the ones you can't stand. (This is a general remark, not addressed to you, Jaded-Raven. I've noticed some callous remarks about people who like certain characters, which isn't cool.)

And in closing I'd like to say... all hail Sheeva! tongue

I don't think Tanya is "just" an evil Jade. Tanya and Jade don't share any moves or powers. Frost and Subbie does. Frost basically got the moves Subbie didn't use in MKDA.

Also, I don't see Tanya as a ninja. I have several times stated why that is on this forum, so I'm not going to go deeper into that. I see Tanya more as a sorceress kind of character.

The boomerang was just a random weapon given to her in MK4. Just like Reptile and Kung Lao used a a battle axe, Mileena was give a katana, Kitana used that other boomerang blade and Sonya got that odd rotating blade, kinda like what Cyrax uses in MK9. Most of these weapons made no sense, they were just kinda handed out at random... for the most part.
And as you could see in MKD and MKA, Tanya didn't have the boomerang, so it isn't a part of her main moveset.

And Tanya didn't just suddenly turn powerhungry. She was working for Shinnok from the very start, but decieved the Edenians and the other good guys that she was on their side, using the fact that her father was an ambassador as a key-point to gain their trust.

So no, I don't see the resemblence to Frost. The only two things they have in common are being women and being evil.

The only problem I see why people strongly dislike her is just her moves. That's all I keep seeing as to why she's disliked. It's like Cassie and how people think she might be a Kira 2.0.

The thing is, and it's got nothing to do with me being a fan of hers, I'm not going to care what her moves are unless I see what they do to her if she's gonna be in, I'm going to completely ignore the fact that she has similar moves as Sub-Zero (even though it clearly said that in her own biography). There's more to her moves that should be looked at. In fact, that's mostly the last thing that I want to worry about with her. I'm more concerned as to how she will play a role in this story if she is to return.

Again, she was supposed to be around Mortal Kombat 2. Vogel stated that in her bio card. She would have taken Sub-Zero's spot but they decided to go against that.

And to be honest, I really would have loved to see what would have happened had they not do that.

Frost has potential and that is all I need to see. Frost will definitely shine if she is not sidelined by the more popular and well established cryomancers.
