There was something in my mind as I took a look at the variations of the characters and I'm not sure if this was answered.

Are the Variations for characters going to replace alternate costumes for characters?

No way. Or at least I hope not. Sometimes characters alternates are better than their primary ones IMO (MK2011 Ermac)

I can't remember when this was addressed, but I think Boon mentions something about alternate outfits and Variations... I might just be imagining this though. XD

In the interview conducted by either the guys of the Komat Tether or some German fanpage (I believe its the latter, not sure), Boon was asked whether alternate costumes would be left out given the (very minimal) changes to the costumes in each variation to which Boon answered that they initially thought about giving each character a seperate costume per variation but that the idea was scrapped. He also specifically stated that characters will have alternate costumes with changes of their own to every variation.

I really hope variations do not replace alternate costumes. That would be really dumb. Also, this whole variation thing has been done, I mean we had almost the same thing in MKDA and MKD MKA too right? I played that game the least, I don't really remember it.

Variations will in no way be substitutes for alt costumes. There's zero chance of that happening.

No Boon has confirmed that they thought about that but eventually they didn't want to limit people's options according to the variation they used.

The changes for each variation are so small that they can perfectly fit on alternate costumes so they won't be a problem there.

I think the 25 year thing kind of creates the need for alt costumes more than ever.

Why do people think this? Is one small change in each costume really gonna shake things up so much that each character can't have multiple ones? Doesn't sound reasonable.
