It's unfortunate NR just keep focusing on the same characters over and over again. The majority of the time anyway. If they do not invest time in other characters, it's going to keep being the same thing over and over again.

After MKX, we will probably never see D'vorah, Ferra/Torr, Jacqueline, Kotal, Jin, etc again. They will join Kira, Kobra, Khameleon, Chameleon, Kai, Nitara, Drahmin, Jarek, Moloch, Taven and the rest on the deserted Kombat Island.

Hope I am wrong.
The newcomers in MKX at least seem to be liked by the developers a bit more so I'll bet they return, even if the villains didn't do much. Kotal Kahn, D'Vorah, Erron Black, and Ferra/Torr are really nothing special but liked a lot since people first looked at them.

As for the special forces heroes, they'll probably return.

NRS seems to buy into the idea that people hated most of the characters from the previous games so they're trying to appease people by mentioning them getting wasted in the games or something. Oh well.

The only one I'd seriously worry about is Ferra/Torr. Still don't really have any character beyond "Master Blaster clone." Everyone else is both really well received and really integral to the story.

Maaaaaybe worry about Kotal Khan a tiny bit, but D'Vorah and Erron Black are pretty much locks for the next game. D'Vorah especially got a ton of attention in story mode (not gonna do specific spoilers just in case) so it wouldn't make any sense at all for her not to return. e. Actually thinking about it Jacqui could get dropped too, possibly Kung Jin as well. But there's no way it's gonna be a complete overhaul from this game to the next.

I guess it depends on how popular the characters are with the fans. I know for sure Jacqui wont return which sucks cause people hate her cause of who her father is. I dont think Kung Jin will be returning neither Ferra/Torr, but I can be wrong. Most likely D'Vorah would return cause she killed one of the most popular female characters in MK, and her and Mileena going to have a feud. If Mileena comes back in MK 11

I'm convinced people don't even really hate Jax, they're just pissed their character didn't make it into the roster.

Same that people don't really hate Raiden, they're just upset their favorite character died and they're blaming it on a fictional character who was doing his best.

I don't hate Jax. He was just pointless to bring back as a playable character. He was bland before.. now hes old and bland. But no hate here :)

Atleast I get the feeling he is retiring for good after this game.

You must really like Jax.

----

The only new characters I care about are Kung Jin and Kotal Kahn. I really hope they make it into the next game. Though if I had to choose one, then I'd take Kung Jin.

Ferra/Torr, I couldn't care less if they ever returned. I'm not a grappler fan, I don't their design, their bio sucks, and Ferra annoys me.

D'Vorah never appealed to me, but she did start growing on me. However her loyalty to Kotal is the make or break for me.

I am liking Takeda thus far, though. Not anywhere near the level of Kotal and Jin, but I think he's cool.

Johnny Cage
Sonya Blade
Kenshi
Jax

These characters have definitely made their last playable appearance for a long damn time. Kung Lao is 50/50. Depending on how MK11 goes, he could come back. Cassie, Jacqui, Takeda and Kung Jin will most certainly come back. D'Vorah is a lock, as is Kotal Khan and Erron might be back. Ferra/Torr won't be back but I'd like to be wrong.

That's maybe four characters who probably won't be back. Raiden is 1000% coming back. No point denying it. Liu Kang and Kitana will be back too. Kano probably won't. If he does, I'll be shocked. Same with Reptile and Ermac. Ermac's my fave, but unless he's vital to the story he can go. Shinnok isn't coming back. Quan Chi and Mileena neither (thank God). So that leaves us with;

Scorpion
Sub-Zero
Raiden
Cassie
Jacqui
Takeda
Kung Jin
D'Vorah
Kotal Khan
Erron Black
Kung Lao
Liu Kang
Kitana

That's the characters from MKX who will probably return. Erron Black is a strong maybe. From what I've seen of story mode, a lot of characters who cameo'd could make it. For example, I really think Frost will be playable in MK11. Her short appearance leaves her chances open. Same with Li Mei and Fujin. If MK11 goes the Deception route (which I strongly think it is) then Shujinko is guaranteed to come back. Havik and Hotaru too. That leaves us with

Scorpion
Sub-Zero
Raiden
Cassie
Jacqui
Takeda
Kung Jin
D'Vorah
Kotal Khan
Erron Black
Kung Lao
Liu Kang
Kitana
Fujin
Frost
Li Mei
Shujinko
Havik
Hotaru

Add in a couple of Trilogy characters who weren't in MKX;

Scorpion
Sub-Zero
Raiden
Cassie
Jacqui
Takeda
Kung Jin
D'Vorah
Kotal Khan
Erron Black
Kung Lao
Liu Kang
Kitana
Fujin
Frost
Li Mei
Shujinko
Havik
Hotaru
Noob
Smoke
Cyrax
Rain

Then add in 4 new characters for good measure;

Scorpion
Sub-Zero
Raiden
Cassie
Jacqui
Takeda
Kung Jin
D'Vorah
Kotal Khan
Erron Black
Kung Lao
Liu Kang
Kitana
Fujin
Frost
Li Mei
Shujinko
Havik
Hotaru
Noob
Smoke
Cyrax
Rain
New
New
New
New

That gives us a roster of around 27 with plenty of room for unlockables and DLC. Using what happens in story mode and common knowledge to base the roster, I feel like this is a pretty fair whack at a roster prediction.

I really think Bo' Rai Cho will return in 11, and also that it may come down to either Li Mei or Frost with one delegated to DLC status. ^^

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
I saw a stream of Raiden's chapter in story mode and Bo' Rai Cho gets badly wounded by Shinnok and before the stream got shut down I was really 50/50 on whether or not he was dead.
I'd say Li Mei makes it in before Frost. Variation system might have less ways to keep two cryomancers different.

Based on who the boss is Johnny Cage and Sonya will be in and most likely be killed by him because they'll be the ones who want him to be reverted back to normal because they've gotten the closest to him in this timeline. They'll at least be cameos in 11. I could see Fujin leading the heros in 11. Give him the last chapter in story.
Like other people and I have said the next game will probably do what Deception did and bring back the other characters who weren't around this time, like Nightwolf, Sindel, Smoke, Jade, Stryker, in addition to Cassie, Kung Jin, Jacqui, and Takeda. Maybe Kotal and Erron. We'll get some guys like Bo Rai Cho, Shujinko, Li Mei, Havik, Hotaru, and Ashrah back. Liu and Kitana probably as the final bosses or being revived to help against the final boss. Jax, Sonya, Cage, etc will sit this one out and return the game after.

I actually disagree, idk about D'Vorah and Ferra/Torr but I have a strong feeling that Cassie, Jacqui, and Kotal will be mainstays, I don't think they will be like Dairou or Kira.

What. I hope he survives. I am going change that 'really think' to 'really hope' then.

If history has taught us anything, only 2-3 of these characters will return in the next game. Most newbies sit out a game or two before returning so I wouldn't expect to see a lot of these faces come MK11, although 12 is a possibility or DLC for 11.
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Also, injury for Bo' doesn't mean even half as death in this franchise, look at Rain for example from the comics to the story mode. I'm 90% certain he's on the shortlist for DLC along with the other notable cameos and is a shoe-in for MK11. He'll be back. Just the fact he's in this game means NRS intends to keep him around.

I could have sworn Steve Beran said in an interview that these characters aren't intended to be one and done or something along those lines. I think the descendants are the most likely to return of all of them since they are really pushing this next generation thing. I hope the parents sit out at least two games before returning.

Also, the game story did come before the comics, so despite that happening, there are limits...

It will probably be based somewhat on fan demand and online usage.
But as of now, before the game is released. I feel that me and many others would like to see Erron Black, D'vorah and Ferra/Torr again. Having siblings and family in every game over and over would make the roster a bit messy and story too hard to keep focused. What if MK11 is set 25 years after MKX, then all the classic fighters would have died of old age.

Mhm. I think they conceptualized these characters specifically to stick around longer and story mode, for the most part, reflects that.

Cassie, Jacqui, Kung Jin, and Takeda will almost assuredly be back. Kotal and D'Vorah will DEFINITELY be back. So help me god I'll eat my jeans if they don't come back in the next game. Actually only Ferra/Torr will probably be dropped.

I think it is quite obvious from how they handle naything post MK3. So the short answer is no. Another 3 years of MK development.... there isn't enough time to bother with waiting to find out, so I guess you could look after what they have on dish now.

Might want to start preppin' them jeans then because that whole bit from Beran smells to high heaven of PR rubbish. It's just another way to sell your game, saying "Oooooh yes, these new characters are some of our best ever, they'll be back for sure, they'll be around for a good long time." The same bullshit Boon spouted about "Oh, this will have the most new characters ever," "Roster will be about 30-ish characters," blah blah blah. That's all it is, PR talk to get people hyped. Don't believe any of it until we're seeing the E3 reveal of MK11 in 3 years time, then we'll know the actual truth of the matter.

Bullshit. If the fans don't warm to certain ones, they'll be tossed to the wayside for more Trilogy folk or completely new characters come MK11. That's the way they've always worked and will continue to work. This isn't me being pessimistic either, this is just being realistic. They won't be one and done (except Ferra/Torr) but a lot of them most definitely will be sitting out for one installment after this and then will likely come back in MK12, the way its always worked for a lot of folks.

Ferra/Torr is definitely not coming back, Erron Black is 50/50, D'Vorah is 50/50, Jacqui is 50/50, Kung Jin is 50/50.

The only ones I can say without hesitation will be back are Kotal, Cassie & Takeda. With the way story mode works now, they can easily just implement most of those as unplayable cameos and not have to worry about them taking up roster space.

Lets just say when the creators went to the bathroom, did number 2, and flushed; with the push of the toilet handle, those fighters you just named also went down with the shit.

However they manage to bring back folks like Sonya, Kano, etc. Their both are about as bland as a sandwich with no condiments, yet somehow make it to MKX when they slate was supposed to be wiped clean. I'm going to enjoy the game non the less.
