I think this is a good question to discuss.

Since the three different playstyles have surfaced we all notice that each of these playstyles changes the costume somewhat anyway.

So, with that in mind will we get alternate costumes?

I for one hope so, but I actually don't know if they will this time around.

I really want to see some of the MKD looks again.

I think we saw some alt costumes in gameplay videos. Some users even though that D'Vorah's alt was Tanya in the first gameplay video.

This *is* a good question. I never considered that. Would mean a little extra work for NRS to apply the same changes to an alternate costume. At least I think it would take some work. No idea, honestly, since I'm not a game designer nor do I work in rendering. grin

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that alternate costumes are still in, despite the changes Variations cause.

That's not an alternate costume; that's a physical change to her appearance from selecting the 'Brood Mother' variant. Her hood is in both of her other costumes, though with 'Swarm Mother', she has insects flying around her, and with 'Venomous', poison drips off of her body.

Compare with Sub-Zero's variants, where 'Unbreakable' has his mask made of ice, 'Cryomancer', where his medallion glows, and 'Grandmaster', where his arms are frozen.

I think it's a certainty there will be alt costumes, but I wonder how the variants will affect them. Will that be a limiting factor? I hope not.

I'm sure the aesthetics changes from different styles are done with alternate costumes in mind.

It's not like they change characters so much, just some accesory or trinket here and there or glowing hands and that stuff. You can keep that on a different costume if you want.

Before understanding the variant styles I thought absolutely we will see a good amount of alternate costumes. For the record I believe we still will, but they will need to be a little more thoughtful given the 3 variant set up. If Injustice showed us anything it was the popularity of alternate costume/skin packs. People seemed to love them, and I'm sure NRS/WB made a ton of $$ from some of these packs.

Very true. It seems some variants have obvious enough differences from one another to work.

I'm certain that with, say, D'Vorah's alternate, you'll be able to see a swarm buzzing around her, or poison dripping to tell let you know which variant is selected. It's already known with Cassie that either her hands will glow, she's wearing sunglasses, or she has a headset, which could easily be applied to other costumes.

I agree. I'm sure they made a killing with all of those costume packs, and would try to apply that same technique to Injustice's successor.

Of course there will be alternate costumes. The variations really wouldn't affect that since they're very small cosmetic changes.

I would really be surprised if there were not alternate costumes, considering how far they went to push them in Injustice and how much it helped support the Injustice mobile game. And on that note I would also expect an MK mobile game.

I actually wanted to start a new thread asking what alternate costumes people would like to see for the characters, not IF we are going to see them because its pretty much a given that the game will contain alternate costumes. Next to all the other big fighters out there (SFIV, KI, MvC3), MK9 had at least one alt per character and Injustice had tons of alts. I don't see why MKX would be any different.

Everyone should have at least two costumes.

I doubt this game will have any sort of alternate costume. I mean, come on, who would think there would be? BTW yeah of fucking course there will be..Christ..

Three Costumes by Character would be perfect. Like Three Fatalities (except Stage Fatality and Hara Kiri).

Since alts were a huge DLC thing for WB in Injustice, I would be shocked if they aren't in this game as well. Not to mention the whole "non-linear timeline" thing. I expect people to have alts related to their appearances during different time periods.

I'm pretty sure there will be alternate costumes. If I'm not mistaken there's a picture of Cassie Cage with short hair somewhere. That could very well be from an alternate costume. wink

It could be, but it looks more likely to be a scrapped design.

Anyone who played Resident Evil 3, probably remembers that later on in the game, Jill gets a backpack, which slightly alter her design. But when she wears any of the extra costume, it's not at all visible.

Same thing can be done in MKX. D'Vorah's alt(s) might remain the exact same, no matter the variation. But I like the idea that alts can change, even slightly, when choosing a different variation of a character.

Hell, what if some alts end up being exclusive to a specific variation of a character?

I've been dying to know this as well, I find it odd that no one asked Ed about this at E3 wow

I think it would have been a silly question. Even a rushed game like MK4 had alternate costumes.

for previous MKs, yes it was a given...but after seeing how they dressed up Cassie, I don't dare take anything for granted anymore ...wow

Ed could just turn and say Variation is the New Alternate...sad

What's wrong with CC's costume?

Variation is... well, a variation of the same costume. Don't worry. We'll get at least one alternate with possible DLC packs.

Cassie's Costume is ok, but looks a little generic to me, but I love that Short hair look for her from the loading screen. I wish that was insmile

I do believe that MKX will definitely have alternate costumes...after all, we might see young and old cage. That could be reason enough to have at least 2 for some of them. Wouldn't mind seeing General Sonya in her MKDA alt type costume either wink unless she bit the dustsad
