So Goro's confirmed and we know he'll be a preorder DLC. If he's held for preorders (and later presumably you can buy him) then this would mean he isn't playable in Story Mode.

This begs the question: will Goro be a boss and the preorder is just to unlock him as playable? Or will he just be an additional character? What do we think MKO?

I hope not. I want him as a regular playable character now that we have gotten all that Shokan boss fight nostalgia wanked out of our systems with the last game.

I think the "Pre-order now to fight as Goro" part pretty much confirms we will be able to play as him. I am generally not a fan of playable bosses and Goro is generally too slow to be balanced but I have faith in them. He could play as Astaroth or Grundy.

I do think he'll be a boss again. They wouldn't put him up as a preorder bonus if he was just a regular playable character. That'd be like putting Reptile or Ermac as preorder bonuses.

My question though is will he be balanced when playable or OP boss status?

So he's a preorder boss fight?...Makes sense... yeah who wouldn't be lining up for that.

I hope he's not a boss character. He was one of the sub-bosses of MK9, one of the potential sub-bosses of Armageddon, a sub-boss in some versions of Mortal Kombat 4, one of the sub-bosses in Trilogy, and the sub-boss of MK1.

He needs to move on from that role, especially when the focus of this game is new stuff. Want something new? Make him a regular, normal playable character. That was only done in Gamecube's port of Deception (and Armageddon, but he was still an potential sub-boss, depending on the ladder), I believe.

What? No. You misunderstood.

I'm saying I think he'll be a boss fight. But you get to play as Goro like how in UMVC3 you could play as Galactus. In that you can play as a boss but they'll be ridiculously OP.

When I compare him to Reptile and Ermac, I'm saying I don't think he'll be on initial roster. (Which is evident since he's a preorder exclusive) They wouldn't put Goro up for a preorder bonus if he was just a normal playable character. That's what I'm saying.

I think he might be a sub-boss and preorder is just so we can actually play as him ourselves. Playable version will probably be balanced though. Cant wait to see his variations.

I hope not.
It would be needless retreading of the MK9.

On Ed's twitter, he calls Goro an 'exclusive fighter', which doesn't sound like a boss to me....maybe he is a bona fide standalone character? Maybe he plays a role in the story but a fairly minor one?

I like the idea of former bosses and sub bosses being playable in the following game. I think it's pretty obvious Shao Khan won't be in MKX, but Goro being fully playable with three variations is just fantastic! Who knows if Kintaro will make the roster, but I'm very happy we're getting at least one playable Shokan. I really hope Goro isn't the sub boss though, he already played that role in MK9. I'd rather have an all new original brute type character be the sub boss for MKX.

Yeah that kind of makes me think he will be like MK9's Rain, Kenshi, and Skarlet, playable DLC that has no real relevance to the story or plot. Just something fun for the fans. I have no problem with that though, even though I would like to see him have some sort of role in the story, even if its a minor one.

I hope not I'm just curious on how big he's gonna be. Either way I'm just glad he's in.

well if you think about, he was a sub boss in MK4, and this story does take place between MK9(end of MK3)-25 years later. Maybe he can be a sub boss in the first part of story mode or whatever part that Shinnok plays the big bad just like he was in the original MK4 and timeline. I rather not have that happened because I'm on the bandwagon for having him as a lone character in the game, but it can be possible that they do that.

Yeah I would rather he be a standalone DLC fighter with no role(or only a cameo) in the story mode than retread the sub-boss ground AGAIN.

He could be optional subboss like he was in MKA.

I wonder, if Goro is a subboss will he have three variations or just one. His movelist in the MK9 was extremely limited.

I've said it numerous times but again, he should NOT be a subboss. Enough with the Shokan subbosses already, its getting old. Goro needs to be a badass playable character who's been stripped of his ranks after Shao Kahn's fall and his failures in MK9 and needs to put effort into restoring his position in Outworld for the sake of the Shokan
