I liked when he got free of the Emperor's control in Deception, now he stills seems like one of his lame lackeys, hopefully he gets more spotlight and develops, maybe he acts as a double agent through the story.

He got freed in Deadly alliance, and I kind of sort of agree with you. I actually hope Ermac could be his own ally, Instead of following someone he could be a lone-wolf sort of thing. someone you'd wish is your ally but you can't really make him your ally easily.

First, this will fix the problem that they had in MK9 where they would introduce Ermac only for him to get his ass kicked every SINGLE TIME!. I actually started to think Ermac is week as hell and if I didn't know the story of Ermac before MK9 I would have thought he is a useless character by how many times he got his ass kicked.

Second, They will be able to give a chapter of his own, sort of like scorpion's chapter in the story because he is not evil and can do something on his own instead of following the bad guys, or in this case the maybe bad guys because he is with Kotal Kahn, who seems nice but not really.

And while I am on that subject, why don't the bad guys get any chapter in the Story Mode? It might be something minor to complain about, but I find it pretty dumb that the bad guys never get a good build up. In MK1-MKT days, we know Shao Kahn was a badass because we'd hear the stories and imagine for ourselves but in MK9. Shao Kahn looked like a fucking pussy.

Killed Kung Lao in an unfair fight.
Got tricked by Quan Chi.
Didn't have any real emotion or depth to him what so ever.
He showed up and get defeated.
Tell ONE time in MK9 where Shao Kahn fought and won in the story? Yep ZERO.

^^Killing Kung Lao, albeit in such a coward fashion, has to be considered a victory.
