Why I like quick time events for MKXs story mode

I know QTE's are a highly debatable subject in the video game community, but I actually think they are a great idea for story mode in MKX. I recently re-played through the MK9 story mode to hype up for MKX, and I realized something. While the overall story is great, the game play is a majority of "filler" fights. By that I mean fights like, for example, Stryker spotting Mileena and yelling, "hey who are you?" and a fight breaking out. Not much to push the story forward. In MKX however, QTE's can play out some "filler" fights and keep the story flowing while making the more important fights fully playable. I got the vibe that the story won't be full of "filler" fights from the stream preview, even in the short amount we got to see. Thoughts?

QTEs suck, but if it means we get cool cinematic fights like the Johnny and Kenshi vs. Scorpion and Sub-Zero one they showed, then I'm totally game. Felt like I was watching a legit MK movie.

QTE's are fine so long as they're not lazy excuses to not have actual fights or interactivity.

For example, when you play a game with a massive boss fight that just turns out to be some quicktime nonsense... instead of actually letting YOU fight the bad guy...

It's lazy, it's not fun and all it tests is your ability to press the right button. You don't use the skills you've learned.

With MKX it seems like they're being used the way I like them - little extras to add a bit of tension in fights, no instant-fail states, just something added so we're not watching massive cutscenes without SOMEthing.

My only problem with QTE's is that they kinda take me out of the game. Kills my mental involvement, do you know what I mean? Ugh, I can't explain it right.

I think QTE will give story mode excellent replay value because you can change the course of those events differently each time. More variety in cutscenes = more awesomeness to behold.

The only issue I have with it is I think it might distract me from the story, like ill be waiting for them to happen, idk how to explain it. I don't think itll be a big deal though.

I understand. It's hard to pay attention to what's going on when you're anticipating having to press a stupid button.

I think QTEs are a nice opportunity for strictly cutscene characters to still be fightable.

Imagine if Motaro in MK9 in a QTE scene. Players could have still fought him, and NRS wouldn't have had to worry about any gameplay issues. All the bosses were unplayable anyway, so the only difference would have been how Motaro was fought.

Plus, there would have been that, Motaro in an actual fight, instead of a quick, cheap death.

Other beings that could have been fought in QTEs would have been that giant creature, the dragon and Shao Kahn's pet.

So yes for QTEs.
