Come on, lets be real, MK is a video game, its impossible for a video game character to be killed off and NEVER ever come back. They always do. I'm sure alot of our favs won't be back for a nice while, maybe years, but the point is, they'll be back sometime in the future.

Its like with deadly alliance, everybody thought characters like Jade,Nightwolf ect were done for, they re-appear in the next game, lol. So it may be a game, two games, seven, eleven, but the point is, sometime in the future, all characters will in some form or another, return.

My Khameleon and Chameleon may not be back till MK 19, but they will be back. you guys get what i'm trying to say?

Well I think Boon actually mean it this time. Because think about it for years now a lot of mortal kombats characters have been crap.

-Mokap (Well no body likes him)

-Blaze (Should just be a side character)

-Kobra (Thinks he's Bruce Lee)

-Kira (A female version of Kano)

-Darrius (Bland and uncharasmatic)

-Kai (Because we already have people like him)

-Meat (Because of a storyline that hasn't been extended properly)

-Scorpion ( Due to repetitive and bland storyline)

And that's just to name a few...The creative team at mortal kombat has a nack for bringing back all of the worst characters and if we persuade them to bring the nostalgia back they'll do it again.

Although I wouldn't mind remakes of mk:deception and mk:deadly alliance with tweaked up graphics.

Actually, Kira is a combination of both Kano and Sonya, fyi.

But personally to answer your question, even though I highly doubt that this is real coming out of the mouth of a creator of MK, "No one really dies in Mortal Kombat" so technically we haven't seen the last of these "Dead" characters as many would like to say... this is the only logical explination that will suite the "dead" characters perfectly:

"They're going on a long hiatus for a while"

So we don't need to say that they are dead, we can say that they're just on a hiatus for a long time.

Death loses it's significance when characters can transcend it.

I agree, instead of killing characters, just tell fans "such and such are going away for a while", because killing dosen't mean crap in MK. MK has got to be one of the only series where you die but can easily come back. Look at Johnny Cage, Look at Shang Tsung ect.

So killing off these characters won't help, because lets say you kill Tanya or Mavado(just examples) off and sometime in the future, lets say around MK 10 you wanna bring em back? I think death dosen't mean crap in MK, someway, characters always find a way to come back.

Hell, it looses the definition itself.

Why do people think that characters who are killed off or dosent return will stay that way?

Because kill is the act and death is the consequence. Humans know that well enough to expect that they follow one another in that order......and because death itself, supersedes "final".

meh..

And therefore, it takes out the quality of good storytelling, making it less enjoyable, because it would be expected that characters who "died" will return later on. It all feels cheap and shallow.

As for whether or not the ones that die will stay that way, it's hard to say. The MK team seems to want to make many changes to the series, but at the same time, there's that saying "Old habits die hard.". Bottom line, only time will tell.

Fatality does, which is the application of death un-naturally. Even in fantasy this is true.

If you don't die when you get killed, then change the cause and effect altogether.

Instead of saying: Fight>>Kill//fatality>> Death,
Say: Fight, Hurt//damage and , Recover.

And also, what your saying doesn't refute the logic behind the human understanding of "Death", or it's connection to how final that is. Which is what MK is inconclusive about.

The series doesn't have to end because someone died and didn't come back. But, characters can die and have the series continue....Because that is the nature of the of the game. There are tremendous amounts of options to be explored either way without the yo-yo effect surrounding dead characters we have been getting.

Minimal to no exploration is what we've been getting...what I, and others here are saying, is explore that.
