If you expect that the dead will stay dead you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
I will personally laugh my ass off if a character's death in MKX is supposed to be "Meaningful" or "Shocking" Or even "Emotional" Then they will fail soooo hard and the only emotion I'll feel is laughter, unstoppable laugher.
Mortal Kombat has lost the "Oh he is dead, care about him" Card for me.
But someone pointed out that there are other ways to make us actually care about what happens to the characters.
Unfortunately, I don't think NRS writers are smart enough to capitalize on that. All they'll try to do is shock value like they always tried to do.
"Oh look, Subby turned into a Cyborg. Ohhhh NOOOOO! Feel bad for him, Even though you know that we won't really keep him a cyborg."
I honestly believe they think we are this stupid to be shocked by Subby turning cyborg, even though all of us knew that he'll return human in the next game from day one.
Not only that but if that didn't shock you.
"Ohhhh look, half the heroes are dead, Feeeeeeellll something" I have to be honest, I did worry for a while but after Kung Lao and Kitana were officially back.
I just looked at that scene again and laughed my ass off.
So all and all. Death is meaningless, If they are smart they'll look for other ways to raise the stakes instead of death.
Why? Because it's meaningless in this universe, Looking forward to seeing Hsu Hao come bac... Never mind.
