As in, characters who'll appear in non-compilation games

There are very few post-MK2 who stuck around. Even popular ones like Kabal haven't become core characters like Jax, characters you can almost always expect to return. The only ones that truly stuck were Cyrax, Sektor, Ermac (who as far as I'm concerned has become a core character or will after MKX), Quan Chi, and Kenshi.

Which is why I can't really who's that likely to stick around, but as for who I think won't make too many appearances in the future, that's a different story:

Ferra/Torr: Already underrated by fans, given minimal exposure so far, and very likely just jobbers. Veteran enforcers like Reptile and Baraka weren't shown losing so constantly before story modes came into the picture, and by then they had long-established fanbases. I'm not sure newbies can get away with being jobbers as easily.

Jacqui: Given the way people are reacting towards her so far, even though we've barely seen her gameplay yet, if she doesn't win more people over once we see her in action, I'd say she's the one offspring most likely to get the axe. I could even see the fanbase accepting the other three as replacements to their parents, while Jax will end up returning in Jacqui's place (think of Raiden constantly returning over his once-intended replacement, Fujin) because the fanbase didn't accept her.

People might think that given his popularity and how propped up he's been in the comics, Kotal Kahn will return in MK11, as will Erron Black who instantly became a fan-favorite, but as Kabal, Fujin and other popular post-MK2 characters have shown, their return certainly isn't set in stone.

I haven't played with them yet or seen their stories and endings so I can't decide yet but I think it's safe to say...Kotal is definitely not going anywhere for awhile even if he ends being ousted as Emperor.

As far as the newbies?

Definitely Cassie and Kotal. They seem to be the two best received newbies so far and I can see them not only returning for MK11, but probably sticking around for the long haul- hopefully.

Erron Black I can see returning, people seem to enjoy him already and I can already tell NRS has a soft spot for him, I think he might be their "next generation" Kenshi, aka a character they truly favor. I expect good things from him, especially if he becomes even more of a hit with the mainstream.

Takeda I can see maybe returning for MK11. He's actually my favorite newbie so far, but I don't know if he'll truly become a fixture in the series. Need to wait and see. But I can see him returning for the next game most likely. D'Vora is also in the same exact boat. It all depends on this particular game. So far all we've seen from D'Vora is her being a lacky- hopefully she's more than that.

Jaqui, while she may be the least liked of the newbies so far, I think as long as she remains besties with Cassie she'll be fine. She's obviously meant to be the Jax to her Sonya, so I truly think they're going to keep Jaqui around for as long as possible even if she's not as interesting as others like D'Vora and Takeda.

Kung-Jin, despite seeming awesome, may end up sitting at the table with characters like Nitara, Sareena, and Drahmin. Just simply overlooked. I can see him becoming the butt of jokes randomly over the next few years. Why? No idea, but each generation of newbies has someone who was randomly hated. Stryker for the classics, Hsu Hao for the 3D era, and probably Kung-Jin for the reboot era.

Ferra/Torr- Idk, NRS might show mercy and just bring them back for MK11, but meh, I just don't see them really going far. I have a strong feeling we won't be seeing them until the next compilation game along with the likes of Mavado and Hsu Hao lol.

And last but not least- Tremor. Tremor can easily go the way of Skarlet, but he already has more fans and more buzz about him than Takeda, Kung-Jin, Jaqui, Ferra/Torr, & Erron Black combined. So we'll see. Future could go either way.

It's too tough to speculate at this point because the game isn't out yet. I have to see lots gameplay from all the characters, variations, impact on story mode, etc to get a feel of who will\won't return in MKX1.

All the offspring characters will probably be back. They're the new Scooby Gang.

Kotal and D'Vorah will probably be back as well. In general I recall them saying they designed the new characters to be ones that would stick around so they might all come back.

They've said the same thing about Shujinko and Taven once. Besides, how do you design characters specifically so they stick around, and so the fanbase doesn't reject them? Was Stryker intended to be hated and in one game only?

If the offspring don't take off, the old guard will be returning in their place. Just because they're intended as the next generation doesn't mean the fanbase will agree. NRS themselves might change their minds in MK11 regardless of what fans think.

What will decide if they return or not is their popularity online. So I think Kotal, Takeda, Erron Black and Caasie will all return in the next game.

Pretty sure all the descendants will return. Otherwise why even have them in the first place? Now out of the 4 new characters I'd say,

D'Vorah: I think she will likely become a fan favorite of this crop of newbies. She was generally well received when she was first shown and she is a really unique addition to the series. Punching bag or not, I think she'll become a mainstay.

Erron Black: Hard to say, since we haven't seen gameplay. But the fact that most people who have seen him are really taking a liking to his design, I'd say he has a good chance to return.

Ferra/Torr: Definitely the least likely to return. Pretty sad because they seem really cool and genuinely interesting. Hopefully I'm wrong and they stick around for a few games. Don't want them to be the next Sheeva.

Kotal Kahn: I would say he has the highest chance to return other than the descendants. He's won a lot of people over with the comics and his gameplay looks fun.

A little too soon to tell IMO. At this point im pretty sure Cassie is going to stick around and probably Kotal as well, assuming he doesn't die in this game.
