Can they do weapons for the characters in the next game? Maybe to make up for DA, D & A?

Raiden should get his staff back and Bo Rai Cho should have his cane.

I'm indifferent of the idea. I just want Fujin's crossbow to make a return. That was so badass.

Like I said in the thread you made before, only certain characters should be using weapons, and should incorporate them into their combos/special moves.
The 'martial arts-weapons' stance switch for every character like in MK:DA-MK:A looked dumb, and I think the devs realized that.

With characters like Kabal, Baraka, Jade, Kitana, Mileena, Kenshi, Kung Lao, et al, the latest game did right.

Certain characters should never be using weapons, though, like Quan Chi.
His fatality where he pulls out a ghost-sword was incredibly stupid.
He's an insanely powerful sorcerer, so why the hell would he even bother with a sword? The guy can materialize flesh-eating skulls on a whim!

Why can't there be variety in the gameplay of characters? If every damn character uses a weapon, it looks silly and it takes away from the characters who are and should be weapon users. If you want a game where everyone is using a weapon of some sort, go play Soul Calibur.

It's totally impractical for some characters to use weapons anyway.
If Jax had super-powerful bionic arms, why was he using tonfa?!
Why were the Shokan all using daggers when they are insanely strong and have four arms?! Why was Zombie Liu Kang using nunchaku when he had chains with hooks on his arms (which he used in the damn intro of Armageddon?) Why was Kung Lao using some boring sword, when he had a razor-rimmed hat sitting on his head?

Certain characters are defined by their weapons, like Kabal or Kitana.
Others are so adept in magic that they utilize that instead of weapons, like Quan Chi or Ermac.

There has to be a balance.

That'd be amazing.

Why do people keep doing different lists for returning and new character? I'm really starting to get annoyed by this.

Anyway, on topic, I'd like certain characters to get weapon stances, but not all. Like Raiden's staff, Fujin's crossbow, Kabal's hookswords, Kenshi's katana, Jade's staff, and Ashrah's Kriss.

No that's what started the downfall in MK4. Stay away from weapons as far as possible. 2x Stances for each fighter might be cool....you know like choose a stance for a entire match or something. But NO WEAPONS.

Interacbles though? ..... I'd be open for it but not ranked mathces

I think certain characters could use multiple fighting styles, like Bo Rai Cho. Since he's the master it'll be cool to see him have a similar style to Lei in Tekken.

How in the world did that "started the downfall in Mortal Kombat 4?"

Probably the uneven broken as hell mess that MK4 was in the first place mechanics-wise. Liu Kang helicopter dragon sword exploiting anyone?

Or to mention the graphics.... and the shitty presenceless characters. But that is aside the point.

Some people require weapons and I think the current approach functions. Kenshi without a katana would be unwise. Cyrax without inbuilt weapons... same.

Hell, as much as I absolutely despised the crossbow, Fujin could have it as a special move.

I'm with rockchalk on this one, I like the way it worked in UMK3 and MK2011. And if they brought back style changes it should work more like the character traits from Injustice, but I'm not even sure if I'd like to see that either. If it's not broke don't fix it.

only incorporate weapons into moves and combos of fighters who should use weapons like Kenshi and Kabal, otherwise weapons aren't that necessary for each individual.

Of course. Let's totally get rid of a feature that's been a series staple since 1997.

When everybody has to have a weapon, you get dumb shit like Ermac with an axe and Fujin with a giant sword.

Or what about the fact that Raiden has both a staff AND a hammer? And Zombie Liu using nunchucks instead of the hooked chains on his arms.

It's better when only characters who WOULD use weapons use the ones they naturally carry around with them.

1. Who knew that warriors using weapons like axes and swords was dumb? Learn something new everyday.

2. Yeah, I also hate how an immortal being has had time to master two weapons.

3. I agree about Liu, but that's more an issue of the MK team not seeing the obvious, not an issue with weapons themselves.

Way too much going on here.

Not every character needs to have a weapon. To be honest, not every character would even use a weapon. I think a better approach would be to continue including the weapons within the character's fighting style, like in MK2011.

But, I would like to point out the only characters in MK I feel should ever have a weapon:

- Scorpion - Kodachi Swords
- Sub-Zero - Ice Blade
- Kitana - Steel Fans
- Mileena - Sais
- Jade - Bo Staff
- Ashrah - Kriss Sword
- Raiden - Lighting Staff; Sky Hammer (only on occasion)
- Shao Kahn - War Hammer
- Nightwolf - Tomahawks; Bow & Arrow (only on occasion)
- Kenshi - Katana
- Striker - Nightstick; Pistol (only on occasion)
- Baraka - Arm Blades
- Kabal - Hookswords
- Shinnok - Amulet Staff: To say, he should have had this weapon in MK4. The fact that he was shown with it and never used it is a clear sign of character neglect.
- Kung Lao - Razor Hat (primarily on occasion)
- Skarlet - Kodachi Swords
- Havik - Morning Star
- Bo' Rai Cho - Jo Staff

A great deal of characters are far too powerful or unique in ability to have weapons. Good examples of this are Sindel, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Nitara, and Noob Saibot. All of those characters have several capabilities that render the use of weapons unnecessary.

Also, the majority of characters that actually do have weapons have them because their stories dictate it. Honestly, I think that's how it should always be.
