What would you prefer picking one Variation before your match or all three like the 3D era games.
I personally liked it better when you could switch during your fight. I think that most gamers will probably pick one variation and stick with it. Tournament players will utilize all three. Why base most of the game on 1% of your customers?

It would be nice if it worked like the 3D era games and just press select to change the variation. However, that is not the case and we have to deal with it...so sad.

It's perfect the way it is, switching between multiple variations while fighting would be a mess.

I think its alright the way it is this time around. Maybe they can do the mid-fight style switches in the next game if this way doesn't work out for some reason.

This topic has been beaten to death. You cant say that you prefer Styles over Variations until you've actually played the game.
Beyond that Variations brings way better meta. Styles was clunky as hell. Variations is like a loadout or a character build. From a design perspective, its not even something that works interchangeably.

1%? More than that.
I like the system from what i've seen so far and i'm excited to try it out. The styles were honestly trash in the older games. It was so lazily done and I would have much rather been able to stick with one style. Just my opinion though, this looks way better.
As much as I like the three styles of MKDA, no, this variation selection is better for a few reasons:
- it brings responsibility and tactical thinking to the match before it starts. Your choice brings value and has weight.
- it would not make sense to switch up mid-match. Sub-Zero suddenly pulls out an amulet and declares himself grandmaster? Scorpion suddenly has access to demons? Kano becomes a traffic light?
- it is less accomodating. Which is good. There isd a SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT in gamers nowadays that is BAD. Gaming is decadent and self-referential and self-indulgent. Learn to make choices with consequences. You chose badly. Deal with it, the game should not hold your hand COD style.

^Yep this sums it up.
The only negative that I can see from the variations idea is long select screen waiting. There's gonna be a whole lot of " I'm gonna Wai to see what he picks, and then I'll make my decision based off of that ". Counter picking isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I can see it pissing alot of people off.
That being said, I'm all for variations. It makes the game alot more challenging.

There will be probably stealth pick so opponents don't know what character or variation you get.
The good thing about the MKDA to MKA fighting mechanics was being able link and combine longer combinations while changing through move variations and weapon attacks, all at the same time. Found this effective when properly mastered how to execute, which was decent.

I can only hope that that would be the case.

This way is perfect. Your almost guaranteed that a normally low tier character will have a chance. If your favorite fighter is Sheeva no longer are you stuck with crap...at least one if the variations will be decent.

It's a topic that's been done before a few times.
Topic 1: The Birth
Topic 2: Going more depth on how it could work
I can't talk about this subject anymore, everything I could say has already been said. All I could do is just supply links to the idea.
