Better is definitely the answer, rather than new. Those characters should not just disappear because they were a little criticized. The NRS team should really put a lot of dedication into upgrading them.
On the other hand, retcons are not just BAD, they're horrendous. If you have an idea about how to make Ashrah an angel sticking to the original story, then it's great. But it shouldn't be something cheesy and overdone, like being ripped apart by a soulnado, ending up in the void and being assigned a mission by the Elder Gods. We don't really know much about the Kriss/Datusha. Can it really be a force of good and facilitate Ashrah's ascendance?

I liked that Ashrah was a demon trying to be angelic. I don't think turning her into an actual angel would make her more popular. I think just a fresh design could spark her up.

No, it's a waste of time IMO she was a terrible character. I don't want vampires in MK. I don't want MK to become dark stalkers or KI with werewolves and such.

Plus characters like Mavado shouldn't get a second chance. Keep the best characters from the post MK and give us new characters to keep the storyline moving forward.

I like the angel idea but I'm trying to figure out where that would fit in the MK universe. So maybe not an angel per say but an angelic-like character. One that's radical and righteous. Blindly righteous.

Or just give me Imperius, Malthael, or Tyrael as DLC.

The Kriss is a weapon created by angels to exterminate vampires. As we saw at the end of Ashrah. Soon this idea is plausible. And may be the Ashrah is now, but someone just cruel. A Loyalist Evil

I think they could still make her look more angelic and heavenly Diablo-style, as long as she remains naively thinking that she's going down the right path.

In her Angel variation she could have an invisibility teleport.

Nitara- Her character design to me was ok, definitely had potential. I think she would have looked better sleeker. Her story i enjoy very much. She was literally just trying to separate he realm from Outworld and used whoever she needed to get it done. And once she had what she wanted she fulfilled her end of the deal and left (even tho she was sucked away), no strings attached.

Ashrah- her actual character design lacked something for me to really care about her but her story i like. something about a demon i guess trying to redeem itself. I guess not all souls who go to the Netherrealm are all bad. give her a nice overhaul look but keep the story and i think you got something there

Ashrah was such a fun reveal with all the "female Raiden" hype. Her, Havik, and Hotaru are the only characters from Deception that I hope are significant in MKX.

Ya never know, Ashrah might finally reach her transcendence by "consuming the darkness" and becoming an "angel of light". I always liked this concept for Ashrah. Somewhere between these two would be perfect. The long black hair adds a bit of darkness to her look.

The only thing that I dislike is her hat. It's too big. I'd like her MKD alt and maybe some sort of head-dress?

The point is, if you want to create an angelic character, please don't go the Final Fantasy route and make winged humanoid pretty boys/girls. You have the opportunity to make something truly monstrous, so get to work on that.

This. Ashrah could be a very tragic character (trying to escape the Netherealm and be better than what she was), or they can take her to a totally different direction like the one you mentioned. She is so blinded by the Kriss, wanting to exterminate demons, vampires, etc, that she doesn't realize she kills the habitats of a realm who live peacefully with each other. Well "peacefully"...I take it that vampires can live peacefully as long as they are fed. Kinda like lions? They are savage animals and they do what they got to do to feed their pride but other than that they live peacecully with each other. What was I saying again...oh yeah Ashrah :P

I'd think animal blood would suffice for a vampire, on rare occasions. But yeah Ashrah. Her want for transcendence was only the real demonic aspect of her. During her appearance, anyway. We never actually got a glimpse of the things she did in Brotherhood of Shadow for Quan Chi. Did they ever elaborate on her "sister" or the order she refused to carry out? If NRS even considers that relevant...

Yay to Vampires. Nay to Angels.

The whole mythology of Mortal Kombat is very Asian inspired. Yes, there are other mythologies from other parts of the world snuck into there, but mainly it is Asian mythology that is the main inspiration for MK's world.

I don't see angels fitting into it. Yes, celestial beings could work, such as Raiden and Fujin, but I'm not sure Biblical figures would.

That said, we DO have Lucifer mentioned as leader of the Netherrealm who Shinnok took the throne from. What Lucifer's origins are is still a mystery though - is he the Lucifer we know from the Bible, or is he supposed to be something completely else in the world of MK?

Ashrah seems to be a good representant of the divine, angelic and celestial - even if born a demon, she seeks to purify herself and flee from the Netherrealm which the sword Datusha can help her with, as it is feeding from evil souls and slowly purifies Ashrah as she uses it.

Because we have Ashrah, I don't think we need to have another angelic figure. Ashrah and Nitara are filling in the roles of angels and vampires quite well, in my opinion.

Lucifer should be retconned out of MK lore as fast as possible.

It's existence has no justification or validity when we already have a cosmogonic creation myth for the world. Also, I am not interested in bronze age primitive monotheism.

A character that has a skull for a head(Scorpion alt)
Characters with four arms(Sheeva, Goro, Kintaro)
Characters based on demons(Sareena)
A character made out of fire (Blaze)


But a vampire doens't fit in that list...

Nitara had so much potential, so sad that people never gave her a chance.
