There's been lots of discussion about dialogue from the intros featuring Ermac, which make it apparent that Shao Kahn's soul made it into Ermac and wants to control him.

I suggested that if Nightwolf is in the game, at least in the STORY even if he's not a playable character, he could be tasked with exorcising the souls of both Jerrod and Kahn from Ermac. That way, Jerrod is freed to go onto MK's equivalent of heaven, Kahn's soul is sent to the Netherrealm and the threat of Kahn taking over Ermac's body completely is eliminated.

But what if another soul lurking inside Ermac was accidentally released along with Jerrod & Kahn?

Kahn created Ermac. The reason why Jerrod's soul is trapped inside Ermac is because it was already in the possession of Shao Kahn because Jerrod was his vanquished enemy.

You know what other former king was a vanquished enemy of Kahn?

ONAGA. The Dragon King.

Could Onaga's soul also be inside of Ermac? And if it is, and it were accidentally freed by Nightwolf along with the souls of Jerrod & Kahn, where would it go?

I'd hate to see Reptile being used as a vessel AGAIN. But you know, he isn't the only Saurian out there.

What if Onaga's soul found the body of a vanquished Chameleon and possessed it?

Could the events of MKX set things up for the return of Onaga in the next game? It's something to consider...especially with the Kamidogu being involved in events once again.

I think that would work.

It would definitely put Chameleon to good use

I'm not sure Kahn has Onaga's soul though. In the original timeline he had no problem communicating with Shujinko and he came right back to life once the last Dragon Egg hatched using Reptile as his host.

One could argue that he was able to come back during Kahn's "absence" though. His Deception (Gamecube) bio states

" Though I have gone to great lengths to ensure my old nemesis Onaga could never be revived, I have discovered that he has indeed returned from beyond death, as his holy men had prophesied."

So im not sure, I guess its possible since it said he went to great lengths to ensure Onaga could never come back.

Or they could just retcon it and make it so Kahn did have his soul after he killed him.

Onaga's soul is way too strong to be controlled. He still was able to pull strings behind the scenes in that form, the only thing he was missing was a vessel.

What if the real reason Kahn created Ermac originally was BECAUSE he could not contain Onaga's soul, and maybe Shang Tsung helped him figure out the only way he could trap Onaga's soul was by creating a being made up of thousands of souls? Like, only by "chaining" Onaga's soul to thousands of others could it be imprisoned.

That' s one of the things that I mentioned in the Netherkast last night. I personally don't want Ermac's sole purpose to end up being a vessel for Shao Kahn.

I feel like that would kind of rob him of some really interesting potential.

You were on the Netherkast?? I've gotta listen to the latest episode.

And yeah, I would not want him to become a vessel for either Jerrod or Kahn. And to avoid that, those two souls will probably have to somehow be exorcised from him.

Another interesting idea would be if along with Jerry maybe Shang Tsung and, Khan placed the great Kung Lao into Ermac. That would be one way they can have Great Kung Lao as a playable fighter. I'd love to fight him

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Onaga's soul to be trapped in Ermac while Onaga was busily projecting himself as Damashi to mislead Shujinko into collecting the Kamidogu. If you'll remember, Ermac was around and joined the fight against Onaga during Deception, and made no mention of a connection between him and the Dragon King.

Also, there was that little thing where the Dragon King actually inhabited the egg that Blaze was forced to guard, and took possession of Reptile when he wandered into that cavern.

Still hoping that Shao Kahn isn't trying to possess Ermac. As incompetent as the Elder Gods can be, I'd hope they could at least rip Kahn's form apart adequately enough to keep him out of a game or two.
